Can I Make a GOOD 2.2 Platformer?

I started a brand new platformer level in Geometry Dash 2.2, since the other one was kind of awful LOL

If you want something to move in an actual circle, wouldn't it be better to either use a few simple sin-in-out easing move triggers (with the x and y movements offset), or a rotate trigger?

Considering rotate triggers have an option to lock obj rotation now I'd say rotate triggers

But I can see how the keyframe trigger is better in cases where you wanna move more than one block

@@thetruezmatt_ The sin-in-out move trigger circle is great for a platform comprised of multiple object, they're a lot less messy than rotate triggers And the rotate trigger is great if you have multiple offset objects rotating around the same point (you can use a group center to make them all stick together correctly)

for the keyframes, you don't need to set a group id in the keyframes themselves and the close loop option makes the last frame return to the first

The fact that he hasn’t realized that you can close the loop yet bothers me
Heres some 2.2 tips for the editor! • In keyframes u can click close loop to make it go back to the start • Touch triggered triggers in platformer mode can rly help when u want to time things! • If u want to make a keyframe loop automatically u have to time a spawn loop for it • U can make 2 things in the lvl hv the spawn id but it only chooses 1 • The random trigger can be used for bossfights in platformer • In keyframes u can click dist to make the target move the same speed the entire keyframe (smoothly) • U can make simple pushable blocks in platformer by making a simple setup [a touch triggered spawn trigger which when hit moves the block in the direction the player pushed it in, if above a gap make a delay on another spawn trigger spawn triggered by the touch trigger spawn trigger to make it fall] sry if i made it sound complex, but its not! Thats all lol

Man Wulzy I'm so proud of you for learning all this in such a short amount of time. Been trying to understand every trigger (and heck even teaching myself) but man this is really nerdy and complex, I appreciate your clarification nonetheless!
Wulzy, I know you probably won’t read this, but I have a few cool ideas for your platformer that I would recommend using (coming from someone with decent building experience and tens of sends from mods). First of all, using the shadow effect where gradient triggers are connected to axis’ with area move triggers, creating the moving shadow effect on every block. Secondly, I don’t know if you’ll end up needing it, but sequence triggers are INCREDIBLE for creating quick loops without the use of multiple spawn triggers and objects, and I would highly recommend using them when necessary.

I would use the sequence trigger more if you didn't have to activate the trigger every time to do the next step. That makes it more difficult to use. However, I have found it useful for organising a long loop, especially with iteration inside it

In the key frame trigger there is a close loop option so that you don’t have to put another key frame on top of a key frame

I feel like the part with all the moving blocks and the little 1 block elevator should be static camera that can also see the spikes at the top. and then when the block bringing you back to the start. When that activates the camera heads over to the main platform and the icon hops down from there.
Hi Wulzy! Just wanted to let you know that in the keyframe arrow trigger thing that you were using, there is actually an option (on the bottom left) that lets you create a closed loop of keyframes in which the last frame placed will simply return to the position of the first frame. You can then use the "create loop" function in the pause menu to add a delay between each loop if you wanted. The closed loop feature can be used regardless of how many frames there are in the animation. I've seen a lotta levels use it to move objects up and down or side to side without having to use multiple move triggers. Hope this helps!

4:58 the créate loop feature is soooo useful especially in NC levels
Might not see this, but heres an idea I really want to see for a secret coin. In one of the sections, have a small hole that you can only fit in as mini. Maybe hide it in a way to you cant imidiently tell its a hole your supposed to go into when mini, by decorating the whole section where all the blocks are spaced apart a little. Then in a completely different section, you would have a mini platforming section that at the end, you would become normal size and return to the beginning, but if you find a way to get back without going normal size, you can back track to that previously mentioned section, find the slightly bigger gap you can fit in, and have a secret coin in there. Heck, go even further and have it so you can see the coin in another completely different section, locked in a cage. (I personally love games that have a collectable somewhere you cant get, but you reach it by entering from a different part from where you see the collectable teased to you. Anyways, have the secret gap you fit as mini lead to that locked off coin.

If you want to close a loop with keyframes, just check the "close loop" button on a set of keyframes. It will connect the first and last keyframes
You can use the "close loop" option on the first keyframe to loop it.

A good way you can learn how do do things is look at robtop levels copy’s and seeing what triggers he uses. In my opinion it helped me make my first platformer level.
This would be such a sick glow aesthetic level!

You can cheese the level by going into the force block next to the diamond and reaching the orange block
Use a spawn trigger to make cut scenes using spawn ordered which will spawn the triggers in order from left to right
Wulzy, I think you should make a level with a deodorant boss fight since deodorant is the sworn enemy of cologne, especially gd cologne

Wulzy, you don’t need to use the force blocks to go up. You can just jump on the block 7:23. Idk if it matters or not tho
when you use the keyframe thingy there is an option called "close loop" which u can make a loop better with it

the only problem with spawn groups is that your attempt counter spawns at the spawnpoint, which can be bad for entry transitions or crowded spaces

you can turn that off with the options trigger
editor idea: so you select multiple objects, then you click a button somewhere in edit group and it gives each of the block one group which is free and in order, and you can do this randomly or specific blocks.
There is a finish loop button on the key frame trigger
I would never understand this. But it was very fun watching someone who knows what they’re doing make something AWESOME!

Missed opportunity to learn spawn remapping for those 4 blocks moving up and down that form the bride thing you made

WULZY you can make a loop by making the last frame “close loop” and the first frame can trigger the keyframe trigger
You can swap the diamond to a lever and add a cable thing to indicate that lever activates the blue platform.
Try using gradient trigger not only for gradient on background its really cool
You could make the platform at the start not disappear after you get the key, so it can take you to the next part of the level

I had a brain problem trying to process the groups and trigger work Wulzy was doing and then died
Wulzy, I have an advise. Using force blocks to get up after you collected the diamond feels really werid since there's no ingame indicator and the player might think that it's imposible to get back up or you have to get back up using the platforms moving up and down on the right side. Instead of this: you could just use jump pads as an indicator or make a little parkour section to get back up instead. This is more player-friendly and feels more 'meant to be there' than with force blocks.
CLOSE LOOP BUTTON BOTTOM RIGHT OF THE KEYFRAME ARROW THING!!! :) like so i can stop hurting from wulzy not seeing the close loop button and having to make wacky work arounds
If you put a trigger targeting a free group without any obj being that free group. It will act like a non free group therefore 7 was a free group but sense to set a toggle orb to target group 7, it will make it so if you put next free group, it wont be 7. It will the next free group instead. Hope this helps or it doesnt Bc this was usless and known info
Rob should add a tab where you can favorite items so you don't need to find them in the menus
The key is GIMMICKS, triggers, with how massive the editor is now, there is so many unique ideas to make first
The orange block at the end might be able to be reached by the force blocks after getting the diamond. You might want to fix that but I could be wrong.

Yo Wulzy you probably didn't know this but you can actually just loop a keyframe animation inside of the keyframes. Should be in the bottom left in the first keyframe of each animations. If you don't read this, that's your fault :)
