Hope you like the video! A real head scratcher at times, but ultimately a great outcome for being sat so long and I loved every minute of doing it. The part two is also out now and I'm currently scuffing my knuckles on the next Scimitar video ❤️

I live in the US and I have only ever seen one Citroen 2CV (as far as I can remember). I did however own a 1987 Renault Alliance L with a 1.7L SOHC 4 cylinder with an automatic that ran PERFECT, but it could not pass emissions testing no matter what I did to correct it. (Same as an MOT, but less strict). I drove that car for eight or nine months all over my area and I only ever got one ticket for not having windshield stickers for emissions and inspection (screw you Pennsylvania BS!). I got that thing up to 120 MPH on a few occasions with no problem and I only paid $150 for it!
Can't believe I'm sat here with a big grin on my face because the indicators work :)

I honestly couldn't believe it 😅
I worked and restored a few of those. I don't know about export models but since yours is a Z16, I can tell you it doesn't have a Z16 upholstery but from a one year only PL17 L1 (the only year the PL17 had suicide doors, your spare engine is probably from the same car that donnated it's upholstery). Those "towers" next to the spark plugs are the torsion bars for the valve (yes torsion bars). I don't know if you know that already but the crank is mounted on ball bearings and the connecting rod are needle bearing. If you have some slack when moving the fan back and forth by hand : you're in for a crankshaft rebuilt, you cannot do that at home (because of the needle bearings that are not publicly available and assembly process of the crank/con rod themselves) and it is extremely expensive. No sheetmetal is available for those cars, don't even bother buying the couple of sh!t parts that exists : make your own. Inside the rockers are the actual frame rails, I'm 100% confident that your car needs at least the 5 bottom centimeter of those frame rail replaced, it's always so when the rockers are rusted out. Good luck, I hope it's not an investment because they are cheap to buy in good condition at least for the left hand drive can't tell for the RHD because you simply never see them. If it was me I would buy a LHD one to restore the RHD.

Some great info thank you, I think it'll be worth getting it on the ramp and seeing what it's like and how viable it would be to get it back on the road, maybe keep it's condition as it is just a bit cleaner and less big holes! Just need a gear linkage cable and a brake master and the clutch needs freeing and it'll be a lot easier to move it around
I was fascinated by the Panhard when I was a kid - according to the 1959 Observers book of automobiles that was rarely out of my hand in 59 (I was 10) the Panhard had a top speed of 90 mph. Seemed amazing from a twin! Not sure if that was actually right of course and you rarely saw them in the flesh as, again if I remember right, they were very expensive for what they were. But it’s great to see one again. I’d love to see it back in it’s 1950s glory. Keep it up Ben!

I have the same edition. The Dyna Z 16 is on page 200. Apparently they made a convertible too. PS: The bit missing at the front under the bonnet lip is the 3rd (centre) headlight. My mum had a 1962 (I think) PL17. Ran great with its suicide doors and drop down back seat back giving access to the boot. The only problem was finding someone to service it properly.

Excellent video, I really enjoy the non-edited examination of the car. I fell in love with these cars as a small boy. On holidays to France in the early 70's there were still quite a few on the roads. They are so unique and quaint, to a kid they have this jelly mould cutness that demanded attention in world of Cortinas and Minis.
Cracking job squire, didn't think it would live without major work but there we go!

Watching you work on the Panhard now. You are such a funny man. The painted shop floor looks great. I realize I can't alleviate your fear of spiders in a random comment, however, they are incredibly beneficial. Thankfully, there aren't any aggressive spiders in England or America, so you are safe. Just don't move to Australia. Good luck with the Panhard and your channel.
I'm one minute in and I'm hooked allready. This is gonna be a good one! :)

You could say the French invented front wheel drive. Arguably the first self-propelled vehicle was Nicolas Joseph Cugnot's artillery tractor commissioned by the French government; its single front wheel was the driven one. My father knew someone who owned about a half dozen Dyna Panhards and stripped the same part off all to keep one running (I have no idea what that part is and never asked). In one of the street scenes in Full Metal Jacket a Dyna drives by several times (probably looping around wanting to be mistaken for multiple cars). Thank you for the video and for resurrecting another obscure, vintage vehicle.
I'm a rare thing as I'm a former owner of exactly the same model which I bought in France during the late 1980's. Of course, mine was left hand drive and I drove it back from Lille where I bought it. I remember swapping the engine out as the ends where hanging out and it causing a riot driving around here and that 35 years ago. That car is quite possibly unique in English spec. The Lucas rear lights are completely different to a home market car. These were put together in the Citroen factory in Slough from CKD's. You'll have some fun finding parts like the gear change cables as theres 3 of them and they were bad enough to set up and I'd replaced them with new as they used to be well known for stretching. You'd have a choice between first or having a reverse.. I speak French so the manuals were useful and zi admire you for getting stuck in, but and I speak from experience, Panhards of any age or model are extremely fragile so take care there.!! Beautifully engineered and advanced for their time. The Dyna previous to 'our' models were constructed from aluminium, but the bodies were changed to steel from mid 1956. If you need any help or information, give me a rattle. My Dyna was donated to Les Amis Des Panhard, a chap called Polley in the end as I had a nice Panhard 24CT come my way and one Panhard is enough for most.. I'm currently driving a right hand drive 1974 Peugeot 304 Coupe'... Ooo la la.!! Have fun old boy.

Just finished watching. Well done. Started thinking what a dog of a car, but how lovely is it. That engine sounds sweet. It needs to be rescued, or at least protected and parked for another 48 years. With it being so rare in would be ok to have a custom restore with different parts from other cars. If you drive one of these you are a one of kind type person. My cars are volvo 850 t5's and r's, so classic not really my thing, but really enjoy the vids.

Panhard et Levassor , was the very early and high quality predecessor company of this really special little Panhard classic car , thanks for sharing this rarity .

It was called Panhard et Levassor till the very end, in 1967. Paul Panhard, who led the company for decades, died very soon after Citroen took it over.
I saw them on the road in France as a kid 70 years ago and they seemed so far ahead of anything else on the road. Loved 'em!
Just a fabulous car. Sounds so like a Citroen 2CV when running. Would have loved to have seen it restored. So different to the usual boring run of the mill stuff.

I love your videos, your sense of humor is awesome.
The thing about those remarkable little gems is that although later models had mostly steel panels, the first iteration used aluminium panels extensively so with just 0.8 of a litre from it’s twin cylinder boxer engine it could reach 90 mph. “It’s been rear engined”, he, he! Hilarious that two grown men were scared to get inside.
Amazing .we'll done mate.interested to see what becomes of it.

Being I’ve not ever laid Eyes on such a Vehicle and reside on East Coast USA, South Central Pennsylvania more specifically, I am intrigued. I plan on following the Journey and catching up on past experiences when I get Time to do so. Until then Keep it Safe Out There Sir
love this takes me back to my teenage years my dad would buy old bangers that i would fix .and i loved doing it
Just incredible …. great perseverance!!!
I saw one on the road about 18 months ago. Gobsmacked as it was the first I had seen in 50 years. Good luck. Previous one was a Tigre, a sports saloon with more bhp, bug eye headlights, and the tail lights were mounted horizontally not vertically. Some unfortunate American serviceman had bought it. It was grey. Yours has Michelin X tyres, stop tread pattern. Lethal in the wet, used to break away and aquaplane. That number plate makes it late 58 through 59. My first car had a 4 numeral EV plate.
Massive respect for getting this started.. I thought you had little chance to be honest, so glad to be proved wrong, epic result, after 48 years just astounding!
Really interesting to see you revive this amazing car, looking forward to more!
