I’d have bought that as a young un in the 80s, I was a sucker for stickers. Especially bass boost lol. Great little fix, thanks for the video

I had this exact model back in the late 80's bought with money saved from my first job. Worked a treat for years until it stopped reading discs. I'll have to visit my parents and hunt around the attic, see if it's still there.

Being made in Japan is still good . Not much info online maybe it was made by sanyo they often made stuff for other company's. Looks cool though

I thought Sanyo at first but a few bits of the construction (and the Yamaha/Sony chipset) make me think it's someone else - Hinari got Shintom to make a lot of their stuff like VCRs so I reckon it might be them. Still, it looks like good quality construction and as you say, not much Made in Japan was ever bad, especially this era. Looks like a score that! It'll likely sound good as well with Yamaha guts and JRC amps etc.

Hinari -- isn't that one of those fake British brand names made to sound Japanese, like Matsui?

Kind of. Hinari was a legitimate manufacturer in its own right in the 1980s, with a factory in Scotland (though they did import a lot if stuff as well like this CD player). But yes, they did trade on a Japanese sounding name. The owner, Brian Palmer, sold Hinari on and set up Akura, another similar company who were briefly the largest British-owned manufacturer of VCRs (built from Shintom kits - but then Shintom stopped supply and the whole thing fell apart). He now owns a further company called Cello that assembles LCD TVs from Chinese kits (mostly Shenzhen MTC) from a factory in North East England.
