Please make more 3ds and N3DS content. It's been really difficult to get replacement shells and parts lately. If there was more content about this, it might encourage the community to create solutions. For example, if someone had high-quality plastic shells made and for sale. Boxy pixel makes awesome stuff out of metal. Does someone here have the means to make and sell shells for the 3ds family of systems? It's a business opportunity ripe for the taking rn

I don't envy you, I used to work at a tech repair shop. Repairing a pre-disassembled device was always a challenge. Often times customers believed they were helping the technician out by doing half the work but in reality they were making the repair job more difficult due to the possible lack of organization.

The blue light only it's because: - Bad update, you need to format again, there is a button combination you can use to start the console - Bad hacked console, you need to hack it again if possible - Missing wifi connector or broken - Cameras not working I hope you can fix it!

The connector for the home button is very easy to damage, since you aren't actually supposed to open it to remove the ribbon cable (unlike all the other ribbon cables in the system). I messed up my home button when replacing the cartridge reader on my system. The fix is pretty easy though: just put a small piece of paper between the ribbon cable and the connector as you reinsert it. That will apply enough pressure for the contacts to meet. Edit: the microphone has the same flaw, so it might be worth testing it out. As far as 3DS games you gotta play: Bravely Default (seriously underrated. It's probably my favorite JRPG ever, and it has one of the best OSTs I've ever heard) Fire Emblem: Awakening Kirby: Triple Deluxe / Planet Robobot (easily the best Kirby games in recent years) Metroid: Samus Returns The Zero Escape Games (or get them on PS4). Fantasy Life I also recommend hacking the 3DS. Not for piracy, but so you can use an external controller with the input redirection. My biggest issue with the 3DS is ho uncomfortable it can be to hold for any reasonable length of time (especially for more action-oriented games like Metroid - much more comfortable with an Xbox controller). Custom themes/badges are also nice to have.

The 3d function also works better on the newer 3DS with the infrared tracking. On the older ones you couldn't move it without the screen looking funky and giving you a headache.

I don't remember if I sent that message before or after finding HDMI out dongles for the old capture cards, but regardless I shouldn't have gone with the "guess you never heard of" bit, that was me being a dick. Anyways, it's my belief we've just in the past couple years gotten to the point of fpga's being capable of proper TV output instead of the older days of fewer and slower cores, where they did lesser processing of raw video, AND at a time when they're small enough ((like a recent raspberry pi that comes on a reel for machine pick and place manufacturing)) to be fully enclosed in the target device without external processing.

The N3DSXL is by far the worst console I have worked on, ( and I've don the N64Digital installation) those 3 ribbon connectors in the upper corner are a pain, but I found them easier to work with if the console is opened, seems like less tension is on the ribbon cable that way. Hey, Tito. Just wanted to say, the New 3DS XL's are a huge pain to open and repair, many novice repair techs actually end up damaging them because of the VAST amount of ribbon cables and connectors. The issue you're running into with the home button not working is a classic sign of a bad ribbon cable connector, the only thing you can really do is try to crush the connector down without the ribbon cable in it without damaging it further and then slide the cable back in. Those TINY little connectors just slide in and out but MOST novice techs assume they must be pulled up and end up destroying them. Secondly, the "bad" motherboard might also be suffering from the something similar, in most cases a malfunctioning stick or dpad is either a bad ribbon cable or water damage which judging by the condition of the bottom screen water damage is a good possibility, check the camera connector for damage as the 3DS will NOT boot if it doesn't see the cameras attached. My best guess is that when the father attempted the repair he did more harm than good which is very easy to do with these consoles. Cheers!

My heart is with the Vita and GBA, but the reality is that I spent more time playing 3DS games than Vita and GBA combined. If you're into JRPGs then Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is a must-play. I had lots of fun with Fire Emblem: Awakening and Yoshi's New Island. Some of the DS games are also worth a shot. You should try and do the ntrboot exploit on the console/motherboard that turns on but doesn't display anything. This would reveal if the console is bricked due to corrupted system tiles or a hardware fault. At the very least it could help in repairing the contents of the NAND. (though I suppose that would depend on why the console was bricked in the first place since you won't have a previous nand backup to restore with that one) You'll need certain DS Flashcart to do this and a second console that is already hacked that you can use to "flash" the special ntrboot rom onto the flashcart (you can't just put it on the microsd card for the DS flashcart. It's way more involved then that. :P) then use a special button combination while powering the console on with teh DS flashcart inserted and the console lid closed sensor tricked into thinking it's closed (requires a magnet near the ABXY buttons unless it's a 2DS which just requires having the sleep switch in the on position). More details can easily be found by googling homebrew guides/ntrboot. ;) I recommend using a Acekard 2i as the DS flashcart if you can find one for cheap. Though I haven't looked to get a DS flashcart for ages so not even sure where you'd get one these days. But if you can find one, it's cheaper then trying to nand mod it. Plus nand modding it may not help much if you don't have a nand backup already which you won't for that 3DS since you got bought it used. While a second 3DS that is already hacked can be used to setup the DS flashcart, you can also use a DSi or DS as the console for setting up the flashcart. There is a software exploit for DSi's via the camera app so you can easily softmod one. But you can use the DS route if you want to make things simple. Note though that you need a DS or a hacked 3DS to restore the original internal rom of the DS Flashcart once you are done if you intend on restoring the DS flashcart functionality of the DS flashcart you will be using for this.

Not knowing at all what was done to it I can't help you too much here but I'll try. Macho, can you try starting it while holding the Start button? Anything on the screens? If the person installed CFW, I'd hope they installed the other necessary apps like "GodMode9", which is a pre-boot full file browser. Usually accessed by holding Start as it boots.
