I wish I had seen you before I spent a fortune on a little camp cooker thing. Fire Dragon must be the cheapest. It's nice to see someone with the courage to cook something more realistic than eggs.🖖👍
Great video 🔥The mess tins are a great bit of kit, the military use two blocks of FireDragon in the field to cook multiple rations packs in the mess tin at once - definitely a time saver! Interestingly the mess tin has seen very little changes since WW2. Little tip - you can use the FireDragon to disinfect your hands before using it and it has no effect on the burn timings. Lucky Mr Fox 🦊
Hi Dan, yeh I’ve had 1 of these sets for many years, not sure I would eat off the bottom of the pan with all those fumes and gel residue stuck to it. Interesting video though good luck in Scotland.
Hi Dan. I use mess tin all the time, I love them. I also have a couple of the bcb firedragon stoves too but I use the firedragon gel that comes in a bag it's much cheaper and if you fill the fuel container to the top it will burn for 20 minutes 😁

Handy tip, thanks.
This combination makes for a great simple lightweight set up. Like most people I love having a variety of cook ware options and this is one combination that I revisit on a regular basis. Great video 👍
Thanks Dan. I have and still use mess tins. Great kit. Have a look for the Crusader Mess Tin. Bit of an upgrade, stainless, lid, easy to clean. 👍🏼

The BCB Crusader mess tins were discontinued some years ago, very rare to find these days.
Hello Mr Fox lol 😁. This stove just looks like an updated version of the hexi stove. It does the job so it's good. Your mora knife went through that steak with great ease. Yea I have a mess tin somewhere lol. Thank you for the upload.
love the seasoning
I love the BCB fire dragon stove for its compactness and versatility, I've used mine for scrambled eggs, bacon, foraged soup and various other things and for what it's designed for it excels at.
Looks a nice set up
Great show
Great demo of the fire dragon fuel. I have some but haven't used it yet. Now i have an idea of what to expect. thanks for sharing
Thanks for the mention Dan. I find them a bit "hot" for cooking, but perfect for heating a ration pack meal or making a brew. 👍
Yes I have a mess tin, I don't use it though. That steak was cooked to perfection! Lucky Mr Fox ! :) :)
I have that stove, it’s my back up in case something goes wrong with my primary system. Can’t fault it for the price, it’s been bang on.
Brilliant video again mate
Love these videos! Mr Fox is going to have a nice meal after this video
Nice job..... 👍
They are great little stoves, I’m sure 🦊will love your cooking 👍
Just Got A Kings camp Kit As That...Love It...Hope Mr.Fix Enjoys...
nice 1 Dan . yea i still use mess tins n still got n owld hexy burner kicking abt somwhere 👍👍👍👌👌
I'm 2 years late to the party, but that steak definitely deserves a thumbs up 👌.
Im an american learning about spirit burners and gel fuel stoves. These things are incredible inventions, dont know why they havent caught on more in the states.
Lucky Mr Fox! Great little stove. Perfect for a backup or overnighter. Neat idea with the wind block as well. Steak looked deelishh!
What a handy little bit piece of kit.
Lucky mr Fox, I have one of them burners too great little stove.
Lucky Mr Fox. My mess tins got issued to me in 1996 and still got them. I carry BCB stove with me as an emergency. 👍👍👍
Fantastic mr fox is going to have a fine feast
Good video Dan. Mr fox will have a brilliant tea tonight with that stake because of you thank you for sharing your tea and with us all 👍🥩🦊
Late to the party here, but Mr Fox is a very lucky canine, and I'm guessing he enjoyed that steak very much! I've just ordered one of those cracking little stoves plus the fire dragon gel fuel in the squeezy bag (ie not the cube version) to go with it for a forthcoming month long winter camping trip in february! I wanted to use it just as a quick-lighting stove for boiling water for a cuppa (the paraffin stove i normally use for cooking takes a little while to come to full flame properly so would be a drag to use each time I just wanted to make a brew!) Looks like it has more talents than just making a cup of tea - I could cook quick meals on it too by the looks of things! The little stove and a litre of the gel only cost around £10 altogether (I bought them separately off ebay), so I think I've got one helluva bargain!!
Love the videos keep then coming, lucky Mr fox
I have a set of the Dutch stainless mess tins and love them. They work great for so many cooking needs.
Great video. The only thing about mess tins, is cleaning them afterwards
I'm in the Army Cadets and I am going out for a weekend with the cadets and we do shooting and camping out and this is a great piece of kit (way better than a hexi stove)
Nice video! i use mess tins ive had 3 sets over the years, the essential items for camping is Mess tins, BCB stove, and a Zippo lighter ;)
I started off with mess tins years ago and I've recently gone back to them. I have 3 which nest inside each other perfectly. Excellent for baking and stews 👌🏻 🦊
Lucky Mr Fox! Great demo Dan. Some people are nervous about using aluminium (mess tins) for cooking with. It's actually quite safe as long as you're not getting it so hot that i starts to melt! You can leave the stove open a bit more than you did too, if you want to, just means a slightly more stable platform for youe mess tin. Oh, Yes, I have mess tins and ally billy cans too I also have two of those stoves so I can use two pots at the same time. Great little video. Thank you.
Mr Fox 🦊 🥩 Eating well today my friend 🤣
Mr Fox I live in a tent and rely on my mess time and hexi burner! Best soup in the tin ban Marie style. Try. Boil water for tea,or pot noodle. Or cook packet noodles straight in the tin. Fried egg sandwich, fried bacon sandwich (don't use butter! Mop the Brea in the bacon flavoured oil instead when it's cooked!). Basically the skys the limit with these, and they're self containing. If it's good enough for the army it's good enough for me 😀
That lucky mr. Fox 😂 but yeah so I do love this stove, I don't own a mess tin right now, lent it to a friend and he took it. So gonna get myself one soon from my local surplus shop, have a great day man
Cool video, I gifted my mess tins to a friend, who was starting wildcamping, about 15 years ago, Mr fox is very lucky, not keen on cooking with the cubes, too expensive, I got some off a friend and have in emergency fire kits, but prefer the fire dragon gel pouchs and the 1ltr bottles of fire dragon liquid , cheaper, and with my stoves better, I use this bcb stove in one of my bags, very light, good stove, enjoyable video, good health and safe travels, cheers craig
Mr fox will love the steak, I have the same cooker works brill, good vid as always
Hope mr fox enjoys his tea😄
Gonna get a fox costume and move to your neck of the woods and be the next MR FOX! 🪵 🥩🦊
The mess tin is everyone's first bit of cook kit, usually bought from the local 'Army and Navy' type shop. 🦊🥩

You made me buy some steaks today. I will cook it on the grill outside. We just had a huge rain storm 5 inches in 24 hours finally sunny 😎 bay area California
Lovely,lovely
Good meal for old foxy there mate ... I always carry one of these just in case ... sometimes I have taken some thinly cut lams liver, a couple of mushrooms and a few slices of red onion in a little freezer bag and cooked it up no worries ... good video pal
Surly it doesn't matter if you only take one gel tablet as you can always use some sticks to keep it going. I've been using these gel cubes for a few years now and they are great as a fire starter but I never rely on them alone to do my full cook. Another useful tip is that they are good for cleaning your hands. If you've touched raw meat then rub one over your hands to anti-bac them. And then I just saw that you said that tip too... I don't have a mess tin, personally for me they are too bulky. That Fox is one lucky mother... hope it likes full sized peppercorns haha. Nice one Dan.
Hi there Mr Fox keep the videos coming
Mr 🦊 I loved this video and I have just bought the firer dragon today carnt wait to use it going to cool proper burgers 😂
Great little stoves, my only observation is you need enough fuel in your pack which can take up precious space if you're out for longer than a night. Cracking for a quick easy brew up, silent and very low odour so pretty stealthy if properly shielded. Almost always take the Firedragon Mini as it fits nicely in a hip pocket and compliments my ultra light meths burners well. Mr Fox said so :D

It’s very good as a back up. That’s what I use mine for. The stove and 3 blocks don’t take up any room. And for the me, that tiny bit extra weight is worth it for some peace of mind. But of you use them freeze dried type meals and you only doing an over nighter that this is perfect 👍

great video,lucky mr fox !!!!!!
I clicked like just because you are buying on Amazon :) keeping me employed
Great video, having served in the army, mess tins are always versatile and I have a few. Fantastic Mr Fox is lucky chomping down on prime steak lol
🦊 I bet the fantastic Mr Fox loved that steak!! Nice video mate. All the best from Greece 😊🌲👍🏕️
Lucky Mr Fox ! That steak was cooked perfectly !!
Foxy. Lol I always take and use a mess tin wildcamping companies my APG-Jetboil lol awesome video. 🤘🤘🏴🏴🏴
Lucky Mr Fox! As you can see I'm still catching up on old vids, nice little stove.
that fox eats better than I do, great vid mate 👍
I still have my set of Australian Army issued mess tins and Hexamine stove and I was discharged in 1987. There is a huge amount of great camp cooking utensils to choose from , but for compact easy to use cooking, mess tins and the old Hexi stove certainly have their place. I do a lot of remote camping and beach fishing where I live in Western Australia. The Hexi stove and mess tins for all my cooking needs helps to keep the weight down in the pack I carry. Campfire cooking plays a big part as far as cooking goes but for a quick brew the Hexi stove is my go to mate. We can still get the original Australian and British Army Hexamine tablets from disposal stores. They smell a bit but are way better than the gel in my opinion and last a bit longer. Hope Basil Brush enjoyed the steak mate lol .Great channel have subscribed cheers
i have a set of french amry mess tins good little set
I've got some mess tins. Handy to cook in and eat from so always take them camping and kids love to use them also.
Brilliant Dan ,pair of mess tins one of these stoves spare pack of fuel blocks job done. This little outfit will get you out of the shit do a hot brew, sort a pot noodle and cook 4 sausages then at the end chuck an all day breakfast (tin) in.What more do you need I bet a hexy block would burn in it too.Brilliant review top tips nice one.Stay safe mate all the best.Tony
I saw this only a year after it came out! Great content, 'lucky Mr. Fox' ! Have now subscribed to your channel!
Lucky Mr fox!! Got a few of the BCB stoves great back up stoves or for day walks! Not a fan of using Aluminium pots and pans though! Great video 👍🏻
Happy day mr fox!!

Yes and I still use it know that came in two pack as a pair the British Army " Military " and that are called Mess Tins just thought I would let you know good video 👍 thanks mate
Hi Dan another good video I always look forward for the next one thumbs up mate with Mr fox
Mr Fox,1 year later. Always been a fan of BCB gear, and a long term user of mess tins. However I really prefer my steel crusader mug for everything now (still BCB) with a meth burner.Nice and quiet the way it should be. Really appreciate your videos buddy and I will start on your new bad hotels adventures soon. Kind regards from Manchester.
Yes got a few mess tins good bit if kit
Hi mate, I have stainless steel and British army aluminium tins. Stainless steel are dutch. Great video.
Mr fox 🦊 yup got the mess kit in stainlesssteel another great video just a tad under done for me the steak
Day late but lucky Mr 🦊. Great vid and great fuel/stove set up. Still love the smell of hexi thou. Happy memories. Definitely a good back up or emergency stove to keep in your bag. Just in case. Stay safe mate ATB Rob 😊👍
That steak looks perfect. Far too good for Mr Fox!
Hi Dan , I used to have a Mess Tin many years ago !🙂
Mr fox is hoping there a lot more weans onthe way for your friends&family good video n good use of mess Tim as chopping board right af the cuff aw good.
I always keep one in my backpack for extra , the only thing i can say about them is, i wish they had made the middle burning tray water tight so you could use it for Bio Methanol or Meths , great video Good for beef and onion buttys left overs thin slice cut .
Great vid , Mr Fox is a lucky old fox
Yep guilty of having various types of nesting mess tins, I personally like the old US stainless steel mess tin because they are cheap, durable and the top and bottom link together making a study plate and dish arrangement. The dish also makes a great little frying pan with a very long handle. If you do not have one and want to try it they are available new on amazon. Well worth the money. You will not regret it. They work very well on the Kelley (ghilli kettle) hobo stove.
Yeah I did have a mess tin but I never used it. Eventually it disappeared - I don't know what happened to it. And yes I watched the video to the end and lucky Mr Fox. He won't need to hunt for as long after eating prime steak. Meanwhile I've ordered one from Amazon (a stove, not the steak!). The old fuel tablets left an awful mess on the bottom of the pots but I'm gonna try these new fuel gels.
Luck Mr. Fox 😂 . Steak looked nice . Love my little bcb gel stove , handy little bit of kit . Take care Dan 👍
Yeah let Mr fox have it . Looks like a great little stove, would I purchase one, not sure about that. Thanks for the video
I love those little folding stoves especially with the wind screens however what I don't like about that particular one is the fuel tray doesn't have a full floor if I wanted to continue my cook with a few small twigs. The gel tabs are expensive enough and so I sometimes finish off my cook with some twigs. The knockoff I owned had a full floor with a number of holes machined in it and I could finish off my burn with wood and save on the fuel tabs.
gr8 vid nice steak for mr fox
i have 2 sets of mess tins and 2 hexamine ezbit folding stoves just got my self a stainless tea pot to try see if it will work as a kettle for making brews
Thats one lucky fox👍
i love my mess tins , i,ve had the same tins since the 80,s when i used them in the scouts , and still use them fairly regular nowadays !
Bloody lucky 🦊. Always have mess tins and have the new stove with the dragon blocks. Went out in the summer with the grandson and used the old hexi burner but the blocks were past it really 👍
Mess tins all the way use the small of the two as your main cooking pot then cut down the larger tin in to an inch deep frying pan also acts as a lid to the smaller tin when cooking and as a lid to seal the complete unit in your bergen - another great film , greetings from Brighouse
Yes have a pair of mess tins I've had for many years, along with a hexi stove. Maybe I should dust them off and use them again! Mr fox is very lucky!
