It kinda sucks that the only 2 great sentries are from after moonlord is killed. Hopfully in 1.4.5 sentries will get their final rework to make the sub-class viable.

It isn't meant to be a subclass, you are meant to use sentries along with any of the main classes. If sentries were buffed a lot, OOA armor would be insanely OP and even just playing a base summoner with increased sentries would be really strong.

Sentries are just meant to compliment your summoner mob count.

The initial OOA grind, there's a fairly well known easy way to get extra sentries. Ethirian Mana is a physical item in your inventory, and it can freely be placed into chests like any other item. Once the event finishes, any Mana in your inventory is removed. If you open a chest, any Mana in it is also removed once you open it. The update is only done once you open the chest. Nothing stops you from starting an event, storing Mana, losing, then starting a new event before opening the chest. I usually use this when trying to kill Betsy just so I can leave the crystal alone and focus the boss, but this works at any progression level

After a recent update, this method doesn’t work anymore. But it still works with player based inventories like piggy banks and Safes.

Tips for OOA: you can open doors. Such as trapdoors. This allows you to keep all ground bound enemies underground and useless, or you can use a hoik to disable them as well.

I thought OOA had a lot of methods to make that kind of stuff useless? >.> Like, ghosting through walls and stuff, useless. Also, pretty sure trapdoors *don't* work, but I may be thinking of platforms... I tried but spent thirty minutes trying to get the thing to work till I realized *two platforms on my hellevator* were in the way. x)

Explosive traps are crazy underrated. They goated , esecially for moon lord cuz you can get them all on the same block and melt the eyes.

@@JigglesMcRibs I always rush golem after plantera because the tier 3 explosive trap helps so much in the dungeon, and if you use the armour set you can oil enemies which is also really slept on.

Right? I couldn't believe the amount of stuff this guy was willing to try without ever considering the Explosives. They can solo the first two Old One's Army events if you just stick a bunch of them in a row by the portals, even killing Wyverns before they can fly high enough.

Bro could be putting all that mana to use too by repeatedly summoning the explosive trap over n over on top of an enemy, bypassing its attack cooldown and bursting it down. Its high dmg, bursting with your mana, with oil later on makes it a damn terror. When i hit hard mode n need better gear I go to the spiders nest right away n burst em down with explosive trap. What would take forever to kill is now a pile of meat in seconds.

The reason why people don't use Explosive Trap sentries are due to long lasting misinfo it been cursed with for over half a decade, which is a shame and annoying because it has the strength equal to lightning aura but with little to no setup requirement. The fact it got buffed despite Ballista and Flameburst are 2 that was needed the buff the most is outright a crime, thanks god Re-Logic awared of it later, still left Flameburst behind though.

Btw the explosive trap is insane when well used against the old one's army and can be enough until betsy , it can even kill the flying ennemies when placed on the crystal , it is easily the 2nd or 3rd best old one's army weapon , other than that i wish terraria made sentries more viable , rather than just something you place down because it deals a tiny bit more dmg and leave it

Explosive Trap was always the strongest OOA sentry for event since it first introduced, and the fact that 1.4.1 buff it from community request and not buff the others still haunted me for years. What can I say, Ballista's misinfomation at it finest The fact that almost nobody care about OOA is the reason why the misinfo last for half decade. They finally buff Ballista at the end.

If you struggle with OOA you could do the distraction method to save up mana and store it in a chest next to the crystal. As long as the chest in NEVER opened outside of the event that mana will be stored and not disappear. Just lose the game several times and BOOM! you save enough to spawn multiple ballisters and wipe them.

Explosive Traps and Flameburst sentries are better than the Ballistae IMO because of their higher DPS. Lightning Auras are good with the specialized armor. You actually can teleport your way out of the Destroyer fight. Put 2 teleporters at the same height far away from each other and put Explosive Traps between them. Destroyer doesn't despawn due to distance, so you can teleport to keep him entirely offscreen and on top of your infinitely piercing Explosive Traps.

Keep up the great terraria master series :) Plenty of builds still to do, I love watching em' and quening them all up when i hit the sack after a long day of work!

Before OOA difficulty got drastically tuned down. Explosive Trap was the only sentry that allow you to die twice without instantly lost the OOA event in Master Mode even during it pre-buff, twice, and can guard Betsy for quite a long duration compared to all other OOA sentry.

If you actually do this with only century damage that’s extremely impressive. When other KZreadrs do these challenges they often bend the rules when they don’t have to but only a minute into the video I can tell you’re serious and I love it, I’ll sub and I know you’ll be big soon keep it up man

I think sentries-only is one of the most painful weapon type-only runs you can do in this game. Shortswords-only, repeaters-only, and launchers-only are the only ones I'd say are worse.

This is both an excellent presentation and a good challenge, awesome :) If you don't mind a bit of cheese: You can set one of your teleporters just outside of the Ocean Biome - because as soon as you get outside of the Ocean Biom while Duke is spawned, he enrages and ignores all of his other stuff, just dashing at you. Then you teleport back into the Ocean Biome with the other teleporter, effectively resetting his AI. He'll never spawn tornadoes this way

YES NEW RATHER QUENCHED UPLOAD TO WATCH 7 TIMES IN A ROW

There are a lot of ways to make this run easier. (I'm watching this video as of writing this, will edit as I progress) - OOA: you can use platform hoik to make all ground enemies harmless, allowing you to clear the event more easily. - All nighttime bosses: you can play the dontdigup seed to remove ALL time limits from bossfights (except deerclops and wall of flesh) - Twins: for retinazor second phase, just box yourself in and you're completely safe from all attacks. It doesn't shoot through walls and it never dashes at you. - Destroyer does not despawn when you are far away. You can use the magic conch to teleport to the other ocean and heal up (or use other means of long range teleporting) - Generally for low damafe weapons, going for tankier builds is better. If you can survive indefinitely then it doesn't matter which weapon you use. There's also the ultimate uber cheese method of saving up eternia crystals and then spawning hundreds of sentries at once while the event is active but you wouldn't have an interesting video that way lol

Fun fact: once retinazer reaches phase 2, you can just put blocks on each side of you and above you. He has no melee in phase 2, and lasers dont go through blocks

this is extremely impressive. as someone doing sentry summoner right now (basically this but i have whips, SO much easier) on expert mode, you've gone through much farther lengths through everything, in master mode too! here's something VERY key about the frost hydra sentries though: their invincibility frames SUCK. if you'll notice at 38:04 , not every projectile hits. the projectiles interrupt each other because they dont have local immunity frames (like the ballista staff, for example, does), so using them together like that can hurt dps at extreme levels. hope that explains that! i did love how you named each sentry though. very fun touch

You can watch a youtuber called sorbet cafe who killed moonlord using a copper shortsword, flare gun, and lawn mower. When the leeches spawn you can teleport to the other side of the world, unlike moonlord who instantly teleports to you the leeches despawn allowing you to moon lord to stop healing.

For the Old Ones Army, you could've put the 10 starting mana into a chest and not to open it when not fighting the army. That way, you get as much mana as you want and place like 100 sentries at the start of the event.

for OOA you can use a simple hoik at each portal to stall the enemies, and then stack either ballista or flameburst sentries at the crystal to kill flying enemies. use the trap to kill enemies that are stuck in the hoik

the fact that you mined out a pit under the moon lord arena before upgrading your wings is astounding

When he said the Mine staff is useless my heart dropped. He had so much trouble with Destroyer but he doesnt realize that when the mines drop, they hit EVERY SEGMENT on the way down.

just to let you know you can cheese the old one's army with hoiks, by placing a full block and hammering it so that the triangle is facing towards where the portal is, you can block swap a platform with it and the walking enemies will be unable to go past it, so long as you don't go over them causing them to jump towards you, the only issue with the event then is the wyverns, but lightning aura staffs are actually pretty good at dealing with them. not to invalidate your hard work but at least you managed to beat it without the cheese method which is pretty impressive and I certainly didn't think it was possible with only sentries.

Now its time for you to beat Terraria using only NPCS to attack

You underestimate waaaay to much the explosive trap with the red riding armor. It's a turbo broken strategy that I use quite often to destroy the moon lord core and the top eye when he spawn on my summoner playthroughs !

I know at least two exploits that would've helped the OOA's event in the beginning tho I've no idea how you'd feel about them. But honestly impressive you got it through like that

14:13 I've been playing master mode and everything seed for quite some time, and FINALLY I saw someone using rails as well to create a hell bridge! xD I find them superior, both resource and speed wise (dude, 1 iron bar for 50 rails!? and you can place them in zigzag too!) As a rail hell bridger, I approve of this xD

If you use the glitched platform to hold off the goblins you could have more active while the old ones army event is at a standstill allowing you to have more sentry summons

For tanking moonlord I'd recommend using the gold cross accessory, the one that doubles your i-frames after taking a hit, it helped me greatly on expert, but I'm not sure if you'll be able to survive master like that

When you was beating the old ones's army you could safe mana to the chest, to place a lot of sentries after some time

You should have used some flamebursts for destroyer, they would have been able to hit the probes, and if you put ballistas at the bottom the would have dealt the damage, but it was really creative the way that you actually beat destroyer.
