That's right. Actual FAIRY types. In Generation 4. I've always wondered... if the Fairy type existed in earlier generations, how would it perform? Well today, with an exclusive version of Pokemon HeartGold, we can find out!
We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon HeartGold Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Fairy types? No items and no overleveling!

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

If you didn’t know already, Huge Power doesn’t double a Pokemon’a base Attack stat, but its actual Attack Stat. So Azumarill hits a lot harder than a Pokémon with a base 100 attack stat. :D

Nuzlocke Idea : Kecleon Type Run 1 st encounter / starter - has to be the same type as the 1st gym is (rock if you are playing Pearl) After obtaining a badge you can get another encounter depending on what the next gym type is (grass if you are playing Pearl), repeat until the final badge. Bonus challenge : Must use Kecleon if you can get it as a viable encounter (ignoring the gym badge catching rule) Really enjoying you content Silph, keep up the good work.

@18:12 Small correction. Huge Power doesn't change the base attack from 50 to 100. That's WILDLY wrong. Huge Power doubles the ATTACK STAT. Not the base attack. What this does in reality is make Azumarill base attack more like 150. Example 252 adamant Azumarill is 218. That's doubles to 436. Base 150 Azumarill with 252 Adamant is 438.

That being said, you mentioned not having Magic Guard on your Clefairy because you were being hit by Sand Attack. Idk what you think Magic Guard does, but stat lowering moves are still effective. Everyone sleeps on the pokeathelon! You could have scored some Moon Stones before even battling Whitney. "Jynx out prioritizes us with Me First" Me First doesn't have priority, Jynx was just faster.

It's poetic that the first three Pokémon Silph had are also the last three that survived till the end, and ironic that the first death from this run came from Silph's very own mascot as well. To quote a line from the Emerald with Electric-types: "Because I'm meant to represent you, b***h" But, this is an interesting loophole to see how Fairy-types would fare in earlier generations, would love to see this happen in Gen 3 (preferably with Mawile available) and in Gen 5 (B2W2)

a bit confused on dori being level 17 as a togepi then magically a togetic still at level 17 but weirder things have happened considering it’s a Gen 4 fairy so I won’t question it

Togetic is a friendship evolution. It was level 17 because it probably leveled up during the battle it was in as a Togepi.

I really wanna see an attempt in a hardcore nuzlocke with only fire types in Emerald, there are really few encounters and it's a pretty difficult game overall

Togetic is always a must have whenever I do a HG/SS Playthrough. Does wonders for Mortey and if Female, can handle Whitney too with abit of hax cheese.

Seeing gen 4 fairy run made me want to see a black2White2 Fairy run (said sequels cous bigger and better Pokédex cous most fairy’s are from kalos which doesn’t exist and this Pokédex has access to newly fairy type older mons, example easy access to azurill line at the ranch outside first town)

What an awesome run of the game to bad you didn't get a female in the first two encounters for Whitney. That gmy I thought you would wipe out at least one because how hard she is.

At 18:21, Huge Power doesn’t double Azumarill’s base attack, it doubles the attack stat. A 100 base power attack maximised (Level 100, + nature, 31 IVs and 252 EVs) would be 328, while an Azumarill with attack maximised hits 218, which then gets doubled, being its actual attack stat 436. Basically, Huge Power works as a direct +2 attack boost.

Wait a second, Togepi doesn’t get super luck until gen 5 as a hidden ability(it gets hustle and serene grace) 🤔

Also, Rock Smash has never been stronger than 40 BP. And while Defense drops would eventually allow Clefairy to break through Falkner, that was far easier than it should be.
