    Thanks for another great vis! I may need to give the MMT shafts a tryout. I've been playing graphite shafts for years and love them I currently have the KBS Tours in a set of Orka Irons and they are so smooth It's a pleasure to hit them. The main reason that I swapped over from steel was that I was having elbow and wrist pain from the steel shafts vibration and these days with arthritis an added issue there is no way that I would ever change back to steel.

    I just had a club fitting at Swingfit in Cincinnati this week. Originally went in looking to switch from S flex steel shafts to R flex graphite in my 2016 TaylorMade M2 irons. Ultimately decided to go for it all, and switched to the P790 heads and the MMT 65 shaft. Also got rid of my 4 iron and replaced with a Stealth 4 hybrid. The P790 heads are awesome! Great launch, spin and dispersion. Tried about five different graphite shafts, and the MMT was amazing! My clubs should arrive in about three weeks. Can’t wait!

    I don't think I would call this a proper fitting. Sure three different brand of heads were used, but only one brand of shaft was used. Proper fitting would imply using multiple heads and multiple shafts to get the best fit.

  • @SwingFit

    Jesse thanks for your perspective. Perhaps a better choice of words would be extensive. In which I would agree that we didn’t test any other brands then that of the MMT, mainly because I know the profile inside and out and based on the customers current delivery I just needed to determine which head and weight combination produced the best results for the customer.. now had the customer not have shared that he wasn’t getting tired or fatigued during a round I would have gladly entertained. Other shaft options. But in this situation the customer had some pretty specific objectives and goals, in which at the conclusion of the fit we checked every box, feel, weight, consistency, and optimization, so although we didn’t explore any of the other brands and based on the customers ending result and most importantly the customers satisfaction, I might say that it was just what the customer had hoped for. Thanks again for sharing my man....

    I just got fitted for the MMT graphite shaft in a 75 gram stiff with my new P790's for 2022. I hope the numbers from the launch monitor transcend to the course. Just gotta wait six weeks for TaylorMade to ship the custom order out. I also just purchased the MMT 105 TX wedge shafts to go in my Cleveland RTX's, talk about a shaft that's easy to get up in the air. Big improvement from steel. The biggest advantage I find in graphite is being able to adjust the kick point from butt to middle to tip of the shaft depending on swing tempo, also customizing the shaft stiffness like in the Fujikura Pro graphite shaft were the middle is soft but the tip and butt are super stiff. Today's Graphite is not your grandpa's graphite shafts by no means. Technology has improved the material.

    Great video. I was a picker until last month. I have been working all winter and have changed my path over 5 degrees. The question I have is on heads. As a picker the 790 is a scary because I didn’t spin the ball. I played srixon and they were low spin. It is just always a concern you have in the back of your mind. The a 790 will catch a flyer and be gone.

  • @SwingFit

    @SwingFit

    2 жыл бұрын

    You got that the 790 is a great iron but with the little stronger loft, and a little hotter face it can definitely have a tendency to jump but this is usually resolved with reps and technique the only way it jumps is if strike location is inconsistent if your always living out of the center or let’s just say predominately living out of the center then the 790 will be fine. Now depending on your AOA and delivery especially if your no longer sweeping the ball or picking it clean then you may want to double check lofts on irons to fine tune the spin rates and landing angles.

    I just replaced my modus 105 regular hard stepped x1. In my apex cf 19. With the Fuji pro 95i tour spec pro soft stepped . Couldn’t be happier. My question to you, planning on going graphite in my wedges. Looking at the MCI 105 wedge shafts, what do you think 🤔? Or could I just go with 95i hard stepped into my jaws 5 wedges? Would the swing weight be crazy in the wedges?

  • @SwingFit

    @SwingFit

    3 жыл бұрын

    So my recommendation would be to pick a wedge and try one. You may not like it or you might love it. One of the many benefits that graphite has over steel is that it reduces vibrations, and makes the feel less harsh. Now depending on the type of wedge player you are this may not be a good thing for wedges. What I mean by that is for the most part your wedges are generally partial shots 3/4 swings and a wedge with reduced feel may make it harder to develop those touch shots around the green. But this is one of those things you never really know until you try. So if you have access to a builder and before you replace all of them just try swapping one and go with it, in regards to hard step, that’s not a bad idea as the head weights in the wedges are the heaviest and it could help increase the feel.

    Generally it’s not measured or reported as it is low, also with the heads being as small as they are with irons there just not as susceptible to with torsional twisting this would be why on a toe strike you may feel the club actually twist in your hands.

    I recently was fitted for some Mizuno 921 HM Pros. My swing speed is around 82 mph so the fitter put me in the UST Recoil F3 R flex. I think they’re around 65 grams. I wanted the regular 921 Hot Metals but with me hitting left of center too much he said the pro with less offset would be better. I’m almost 58 years old and I want more distance. I’m thinking of switching to the new Tour Edge Exotics E 721 irons with the light weight steel TT XP 85 shafts. I’m averaging 145-150 yds now with my 7 iron but it’s not consistent. What’s your opinion? Great video and content. Also where are you located? I live in SC just outside of Augusta Ga. Thanks!

    We are in the panhandle of WV about an 8 hour drive north. In regards to shafts and heads. I believe the 921 heads this year are their best yet and had been our number one seller for med-avg swingspeeds between 80-85. A very popular shaft we are quickly falling in love with is the Nippon Zellos shafts. The 70 gram version is a great graphite alternative. The key with this shaft is you need a smooth swing definitely not quick to the top or in transition

    Curious.... I'm a 6HC and am picking up some speed based on flattening out better and swinging more around (downswing feel). I have been playing half inch long and 1 degree up (although I fit according to Ping in 2 degrees up... and my head strike pattern suggests I should be 2 up). If I flatten my downswing, does that mean my lie angles should be flatter too?

  • @SwingFit

    @SwingFit

    3 жыл бұрын

    It’s all relative to your hand position at impact. Flatter swings could generally require flatter lie angles, as well as the shafts that your using could also dictate this in the system vent of excess shaft droop. One of the best ways is to have you lie angles dynamically tested, meaning in motion opposed to a lie board. The quads do this the best because it will tell you dynamic lie at impact... from there have it adjusted based on the shot outcome you are trying to achieve. If your missing right and toe is up to flatter, if your missing right and toe is down only go up if it is impacting turf interaction and slowing you down. Hope this helped.

Therefore, I can't be properly fitted. Could you give any guidance to which flex (regular or stiff) and which weight to choose? Thanks a lot!

  • @SwingFit

    Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately making a shaft recommendation without seeing someone’s swing and their numbers is like a best guess, and I don’t like to guess. With that said and because of the cost, I really wouldn’t want to suggest a shaft as it could become a costly mistake. Taylormade I know still offers the MMT shaft as an option so you may be able to find a Taylormade fitter so you can hit some.

    Hi, I like the content, it's really interesting :). Just one question about your opinion, what do you think of the combination of TaylorMade P770 with MMT 65 R graphite shaft? (club head speed around 70 - 74 mp/h)?

  • @SwingFit

    @SwingFit

    3 жыл бұрын

    I like the 770’s but I have found them to sometimes be very speed sensitive, and what I mean by that is it might be a little hard to get the ball in the air because of where the cg location is in these things if speed is below 80. So here would be my best advice for you, if you haven’t bought clubs just yet then wait because the new 790’s will be released in early Sept. and they will be awesome. Now on another note if you already have the 770’s and realized that getting the ball in the air is a challenge then without question the MMT 65r could possibly be a great companion as it will most certainly help you get the launch up a bit more. Hope this helped.

    @@SwingFit Many thanks for this detailed answer :). I really appriciate that! I already ordered the P770 with the MMT 65r shaft... I had a fitting and were fitted for either P790 (Fitters recommendation) or P770 but with UST Recoil 760 SmacWrap shaft. Unfortunately this shaft is sold out in Europe... therefore I ordered the irons with the MMT. I got a bit more spin with the P770 compared to the P790 (I'm more on the low spin side... at the moment) and of course I like the look of the P770 much more :). I'm excited to see the new P790 in summer let's how the will look like and perform! Cheers Markus

    Would have liked to see the result of whether shifting from a steel shaft to a graphite shaft would help me play better like the title says. That could have been achieved if the head JPX 921 was kept at least until the MMT85 shaft to keep it an apples to apples comparison. Now with the additional variables introduced by swapping heads, it's hard to find what is resulting the improvement and by how much. Otherwise, it's a great comparison video.

    I’ve found the MMT and certain recoil shafts to be the closest thing to playing like steel but in a very light package. Very stable in the tip extra mass down low to protect Swingweight just an all around good shaft. But it’s not my favorite shaft for creating launch, I like the true temper catalyst shafts and the Accra v series 2 graphite shafts for doing that.

    Nice video. Been fitted into the Modus 105s shaft with my 921HM irons, new to golf only swing 76mph. Was trying the 95g recoil shaft as i would have like to switch to grafite shaft. But they were not a good fit to my swing/tempo (been thinking of trying the MMT). Through the entire video, I sit and wounder, why he had so low Smash factor ?( low swing speed should get higher factor?) Even after switching to other heads and shafts, hes smash factor stayed just around 1.33. He gained a bit more ball speed due to the lower weight of shaft, but not better impact? During my fitting i had avg of 1,42 on trackman with range balls, hitting the balls longer than the tester here did, with lower swing speed. Could he not square the face up throu impact? 921HM that much hotter face than the 790P or other heds in this video ?

    All good points. Let’s start with smash first. Trackman reads higher the G.C. Quad. As an example 1.45-1.46 is equivalent to 1,50-1.51 with a driver. Why because of how it’s measured. We’re talking difference between a radar based system and a camera one like quad. In regards to slower swing speeds having better smash, I would say this isn’t exactly accurate, yes I will agree that mr Sr. Golfers get better output for their level of input, but it’s because they generally can square up the face more consistently to find center of face. Why because swings are often shorter making it less problematic with doing so. So in closing, smash will always be relevant to the golfer and their delivery, for me on a quad, 1.30 is minimum, 1.32-1.36 I’m happy and 1.36-1.40 I’m doing back flips. Also on a side note we fit using 7 irons and I know sometimes some fitters use 6 irons, so this can also impact smash, hope the additional context helped.

Any thoughts on the Recoil Dart or Steelfiber FC shafts? I'm 53, 6 iron SS in the mid 80s with a very deliberate tempo and transition. Looking for something with high launch, good spin, and wouldn't mind picking up a few yards (7 iron distance around 155-160). I'm a sweeper, not a big divot taker. Steel fiber shafts are really good shafts, but a lot of feedback I’ve received through the years is that it still kind of feels like steel. And there’s no secret that with how these shafts are made and the materials used that I’m not surprised to hear these types of remarks, the two graphite shafts that our customers have enjoyed has been the MMT shafts and the Accra I series shafts. I’ve found the Accra shafts to launch just a bit higher, but both feel really good...now on another note you can also switch up the grips as this is another dampening means. The grips I like the most would be the CP2 series, lamkin sonar +, and new Winn dritac 2.0 grips...

  • @SwingFit

    @SwingFit

    3 жыл бұрын

    So the two key factors when determining best spin for someone is to make sure we understand what is the best loft to get most distance without sacrificing height and land. And last but not least is speed , and in this situation the customer wasn’t swinging out of his shoes, so we knew spin wasn’t going to be super high, so if spin is what it is, then we just have to protect his Apex and landing angle and both of these were awesome, even at the low spin. Will the customer be able to get the ball to zip back On The green with this spin, probably not, but but since it checked everything else I can live with that.if everything else looks good.

    This is a tough one the X14’s we’re good in their day, but now doesn’t even hold a candle to what’s available. Sure I would group those two heads together. They key thing we would want to understand is if your losing distance because of excess dynamic loft or is it because the club is getting too much turf interaction. These are the two common issue I see with sweepers. It’s likely one or the other if it’s turf interaction then switching to the Srixon irons may be a good choice as it has unique v sole design. If it’s excess dynamic loft then that usually is an easy one to resolve simply try placing ball a little further back in your stance or you could try a little forward press at address. Great question, let me know if there are any other questions.

    There is a pretty good chance that these might work but I would say a 40 gram total weight is night and day and this will affect your timing more then anything else. Not saying that you couldn’t but graphite options closer to 100 would be preferred. So if you could find a PXG demo day of some sort near you I would 100% seek them out to try especially before you commit , you just might find a lighter weight steel would be a great alternative.
