I have owned a family owned golf course for 50 years grew up in the business, I tell younger players the big hitters hardly ever have the lowest scores and they are all over the golf course, the person who hits it strait all the time are the ones with the lower scores, in fact the women who play my golf course are pound for pound the best player's I have, they take lessons they learn the game and they are always more consistent then men who are swinging out their ass and all over the place. Now on the other side of the coin the young high school players are phenomenal tremendous players long the whole bit, a lot better than we were in the 70's but the equipment they have is so much better, I would like to see them hit an old Persimmon Driver or an old Power Built bladed irons.😂

I experimented with the ultralight jumbomax on my driver, hybrid, 7 iron and Pw early in the season. After several rounds I installed them on all clubs through the bag. I hit it higher, straighter and longer. I hit hundreds of balls to practice and my hands feel great . No pain and soreness.they are a life saver for the hands and get incredible results. Anytime I pick up a club with a regular grip now they feel like I’m holding a toothpick and my hands hurt after hitting even a few shots. The shock absorption form contact is fabulous. I highly recommend. They are costly but what isn’t these days. They greatly increased trajectory and accuracy and comfort is great.

I have basketball player hands 2X-3X golf glove (depending on brand) so by default I always needed bigger grips. I played with a few different sizes from Jumbo max about 2 years ago and have never looked back since then. For us with Grizzly paws, these play like a standard grip for the standard man. I'm running the Jumbomax Ultralight-Large in every club, and XL on my wedges. Absolutely love em, cant speak for more distance, but I think that just comes from swinging with confidence by not trying to hold onto a pencil diameter golf grip if you have big hands.

This is fascinating. Just last week I started looking at grips in order to re-grip my Mizuno MP54 set. And I was looking at wider grips, and saying to myself “these would have to be better for me, as I have large hands and this would decrease the grip tension”. And lo and behold, here’s a vid making - and apparently proving - that exact point.

I'm 6'2" as well and I've abandoned mid size to oversize and have found out that the lighter the oversize grip is, the more it doesn't create an adverse change in the swing weight of your clubs which is KEY in iron play. Another very helpful tip is to make sure your irons have the correct lie angle for your set-up and swing, for me +2 degrees upright from flat. Last tip you and myself being over 6'ft tall, your shaft length should be 1"' over std for all your clubs including your driver....

Took 2-3 rounds to really get comfortable with the new grip feeling and my new alignment because shots were going straighter. Shot my lowest score this season. Also my fingers don’t hurt during or after my round. I love them. Best investment in my golf game in years.

4 wraps and you are up a grip size, so you are border line making a midsize grip. A streatched standard grip to mid size is going to be slightly firmer than an actual midsize grip. You could also try a +4 grip this has standard in the butt and +4 so mid sized in the lower hand.

I lengthened all my clubs by 1/2 inch. The results are great. !! I hit the ball about 6 yards farther, with less effort. 2. The clubhead kicks slightly more. 3. A longer club creates slightly wider arc. 4. Makes person to stand taller and not bend over as much..5. Adds more clubhead weight relative to shaft. 6. Can play ball fraction of inch more forward, creating more accuracy. * does add slightly more overall weight of club, but does not affect velocity of downswing. * making clubs too long is not advised....only 1/2 to 3/4 of inch is reccomended. Not more than that !!!

I put jumbo grips on my fairway woods a few weeks before winter closed the local course. I don't know that my distance necessarily improved because of the grips, but my confidence with the clubs was higher and that meant I've never hit them better. Still adjusting to the feel (or will be, when enough snow melts for the course to open again), so I'm not hitting them quite on the line I'd like (they hit straight, but favor right) but I used to struggle a lot with topping them, or hitting them REALLY fat, and I noticed a definite difference for the few rounds I was able to squeeze in. I still have standard grips on my irons and wedges, and I just put those on, so no plans to change them out anytime soon, but I'm seriously considering moving to midsize grips because of arthritis and tendonitis problems

I have the Winn DriTac LT in midsize. I've moved to the oversize for my wedges and driver. Was getting ready to swap to the oversize for all the clubs. Now I'll look at the JumboMax also. I like the softness of the Winn but they aren't very durable for me. I can't really say if I am more accurate or longer with a bigger grip as I didn't test that. I moved to bigger grips to help me hold the club easier. Looks like the DriTac LT in oversize is +1/8 and the Standard JumboMax is also +1/8. The fitter on their website suggests a Large which is +11/32 which seems very big to me. The medium is +5/16 and might fit me better. Guess i'll have to go to the local store that has JumboMax and see how they feel. Thanks for the video as it gives me something to consider.

Very tactile, good weight, had enough girth and can be played glove-free as the design is not harsh on the bare hands at all... and the very BEST feature of those grips, it has a built in alignment aid, which is ultra underated imo. I checked the JumboMax website and found that the weight of the Small Tour grip is 99 grams! That's over 40 grams heavier than a "standard" grips weight. If you install these on your clubs you'll lightening the swingweight by over 2 swingweight points! Based on the SW change your test is not valid as you didn't restore the clubs original SW. This is using the XXIO D0 SW instead of the standard D2 SW. Lighter SW = faster clubhead speed with higher launch and distance. The problem is that you lose "feeling" the lighter clubhead.

It's definitely not that straight forward. While yes the swing weight is technically lighter, the club is actually getting heavier. Swing weight is a relative measurement and not super useful. You can make a sledgehammer swing weight at D2 and it will still be impossible to swing as fast as a golf club at something crazy like E5.

@@jonq8714 Unless you’re a lefty, more right would be straight down the middle. What Jim and this Jumbomax grip manufacturer are claiming is the OS grip will reduce grip pressure subconsciously allowing a freer release and higher clubhead speed. In this demonstration, that’s exactly what happened. The standard grip had lowest clubhead speed and shortest distance. The OS version actually had highest clubhead speed but 2nd in distance. The UL OS was middle in clubhead speed, longest distance by over 5yds. Assuming same ball for all, this is all about launch conditions. Could be he was just not warmed up but I’d suggest the UL version was larger grip but same swingweight as his gamer thus he had no issue adapting to this setup. The OS std weight was >50g heavier grip resulting in pretty substantial drop in swingweight. That’s around D2 to C6, maybe more. I don’t see launch conditions but I’m betting the UL was higher launch, lower spin than OS. The point is, if you do try in a long iron, it may take a few practice sessions to adapt and may want to also try some lead tape in cavity of iron to gain back some swingweight if you do the heavier OS grip. As for direction and shape, typically an OS grip will slow down hands of player that struggles w/ball striking. If your draw/hook is due to an overly inside-out path, it may not help. If you struggle with too active hands at release, those jumbo grips can actually help with release by slowing down ‘flippy’ action. Best of luck

It appears that the Jumbo Max UL grip gave you a 3.6mph increase in ball speed and over 800rpm reduction in spin at roughly the same launch angle and similar club head speed (0.6mph increase with the JM UL) versus your standard grip. The increased ball speed and decreased spin appear to have been the cause for the extra distance. It appears that the grip gave you a much higher quality strike. Is that what you felt during the testing? Or do you attribute the increase to other things?

I’ve seen a bunch of these comparisons that come to a similar conclusion. HOWEVER, it’s hard to determine whether the increased performance is due predominantly to the grip size or the difference in weight.. Were you able to isolate the weight variable across the 3 grips? It’s not clear from the video…seems the UL are way lighter than the other two which can change the swing weight dramatically…if the UL are really light, it’ll make you feel the head better and possibly make you hit that one better…so, unless we make them all the same weight, it’s hard to tell what’s causing the difference with confidence…

  • @McGolf

    @McGolf

    Жыл бұрын

I disagree, swingweight is not the cause of hitting the ball further or better. in most of the cases the larger grip hit better than the standard size. it was a matter of finding which weight the golfer prefers in the larger size. Yes swing weight is impacted however I would suggest that some golfers feel weight in the hands where the heavier grip works best and some perceive the torque of the club i.e. headweight in which case the lighter grip is better.

  • @petegalindez9961

@@McGolf I don’t necessarily disagree with your position, but unless there is data to support that, we are just guessing what is affecting the swing speed, accuracy, etc…without isolating each variable in testing, we can’t know for sure; it’s just pure guesswork. I heavier grip will make the head feel lighter, so could cause higher swing speeds…There is plenty of data isolating swing weight as having affects on the swing. I think the Jumbo company makes various models now that have fairly similar weights across different sizes, so shouldn’t be impossible to do a reset isolating the grip weight as a variable. BTW, I see the USN Chief placard and USN ball cap. When/where did you serve and what was your rate/rating?

You need to show launch conditions to accurately analyse these results. The clubhead speed was substantially faster with the standard OS, but the UL version produced 5 more yards. Why? I’m betting it’s to do with dynamic loft and/or spin rate. Were these samples all done with same 5 balls? I’d suggest going back and taking another at least 5 samples, after you’ve fully warmed up. It’s possible the big swingweight difference is causing timing issues. Regardless, the OS grips did result in increased clubhead speed it’s just that the highest club speed did not produce greatest distance. Determining why would be of great benefit to you and possibly your audience. I’ve never heard of these jumbomax grips. Do they have good feel? Firm? Tacky? I ask because I am unable to play with a glove. The few XXL gloves made are still too small to point if I can barely get my hand in them, the fingers are too tight to allow them to bend and I’ll blow out the seam by 3rd hole. The only time I played with a glove, some 25 years ago, it was because Ernie Els graciously gifted me one of his custom made gloves at a charity event…story for another day 😉 I have mostly played midsize grips w/8 wraps. A few years ago I started playing CP2 grips w/5 wraps and last year switched to the CPX w/4 wraps. I really like the feel and tackiness of the CPX, feel very secure to limit a ‘death grip’ inducing tension in my release that you’re talking about. I’m very picky about the feel of grips and must be tacky enough to allow me gentle grip pressure. It’s winter here now, we bounce between homes in Lake Tahoe and BigSky but I’ll be visiting my son in Houston in January, bringing the sticks, so I’d be interested in trying these grips in maybe my 3 or 4 iron as a demo. Just hoping for a detailed description of the feel compared to CPX or CP2 grips.
