Most of them are accepting except for the elitists. And through they're really few in number, they're very mean and brutal. Frankly speaking even though I think not all cosplayers are toxic, I'm still scared to try it.

Yeah same, then I went to a Con and I was laughed at for doing a Ciel Phantomhive cosplay because I am overweight. Nice to see some Homestuck peoples. A lot of people I talk to don't know of it.

This is absolutely amazing. It's heartwarming. I myself am overweight,and while I've never been insulted face to face about my cosplays,I have been insulted over social media and what not. I am self conscious, especially when I cosplay. However,I know that I can very well play a character just as good as anyone can. I love really getting into character. Acting and dressing like that character. And I believe that as long as people know who you are,you got your point across. Cosplay is meant to be fun,and it is. And body type shouldn't matter because in the end, we're all just huge dorks in costume.

I remember cosplaying and I saw these females making fun of a girl who was ugly/chubby and didn't have much money for her costume, I saw her tearing up and I went up to the girls and defended the girl I don't even know . They got kicked out and I gave the girl a hug and told her don't ever listen to people who say that and told her she Is beautiful no matter what. And gave her my Thors hammer because we were both dressed as that.

I'm only 12 and I'm chubby and I cosplay but even though I haven't been bullied about me being chubby and cosplaying I can just imagine how people feel when others make fun of their cosplay because their chubby and if I saw it happen I would defend the person even if they are older than me

the worst thing is that the ones that judge the most are the cosplayers themselves, judging other cosplayers that are "not as good as them" or look a certain way. sometimes its an irony as they dont exactly work as hard as the other cosplayer they might be judging. i feel that if u have good critisium its good to raise it up and help, but not flame or say it rudely. or if u have to judge, just think it in ur mind and not say it… like the chinese saying goes "if u have nothing good to say, dont say it, people wont think u are dumb"

I know that you uploaded this video a long time ago but, I love how you explain it. When I listened to this I remembered about something. Someone was cosplaying and then she said "I'm chubby I know, but I'm human." And a lot of persons were laughing , saying she's gross at her because of that, and I came as the hero I am and said. "Everyone is beautiful, even if there chubby or not ! They are." And they insulted me because me too, was chubby. And then I went to her and said, "If they hate the way you're cosplaying that means they're jealous of how beautiful you are." I hugged her and got back where I was before all of this. I've really enjoyed this video, and I'm sure, your video gived hope to people who wanted to cosplay but were scared of the "haters". So, thank you for this video even if I say that almost 1 year after you upload it. And if, someone read this and are scared to cosplay, do it... You ARE beautiful and I'm sur you'll do an amazing cosplay ! PS: I'm sorry for this comment and my english ! I'm still learning so I hope you will understand.

"If you don't have anything nice to say.. don't say nothin' at all". I agree with this wholeheartedly! It doesn't matter your age, sex, race, body type.. whatever.. if you want to cosplay.. GO DO IT. I cosplay.. but.. we call it something else in our fandom.. We call it fursuiting ;)

I completely agree with you! Cosplay is for anyone who wants to express his/her love of a character or series. Cosplayers & non-cosplayers alike need to recognize that cosplay is FOR FUN and that they should not judge and openly mock others whose cosplays may not be as "good" in their eyes.

+Red Hibiscus Cosplay I agree , cosplay is for everyone , and it's about fun, but when you're competing , you have to be accurate . a 143 lbs tomb raider WILL win over a 250 lbs one , and it would be fair . people need to aknowledge that .

It's possible that a heavier-set person may lose to a thinner person in the same cosplay for a contest, but I would think that the judges are looking more for the costume itself to be accurate. Of course, cosplaying for contests is a whole different she-bang.

I think you got your point across well, and I totally agree with you! People will point and laugh at someone over the internet because they know they'll never have to confront their victim. But it needs to stop. Because we're all real human beings.

My first big con was about a year ago and my friend who is super skinny and super good at cosplay went with me. Well, I am overweight and a beginner at cosplaying and so my confidence was really low starting out. But, literally everyday my friend would tell me how good I looked and even after the con she sent me the pics she took of me and was like telling me how amazing I was. Honestly, if it wasn't for her, I would've been to scared to cosplay the daring characters I chose. And it wasn't just her, I made a lot of other friends and had a lot of fun. For me I guess, my number one enemy is myself and I need to gain more confidence. But, I've been going to the gym everyday and preparing my cosplays for this year so, I hope I'll be a lot more confident. I really liked this video, because it helped me see that I'm not the only one who faces these sort of problems.

one of the reasons i was hesitant about cosplaying was because I'm not the same weight as the people I want to cosplay

Being a very large individual myself, often times for costumes I made are focused on using my body type, (I've gone as Bob from Tekken, and The Heavy from Team Fortress), trying to take the fact I am a large body type and use it to an advantage. It's probably the one thing I wish that there were more awesome 'large women' characters that let those in the same body type have more fun and enjoying cosplay. I know you dont HAVE to play to your body type, but confidence means alot, and if being big is appropriate for the character, suddenly you can play something many others can not. Best example I've seen is a woman who played as Ellie (Boarderlands 2), and if there was any example that it's all about the attitude, she was perfect! I wish I could have gotten some pictures, because she never broke character the whole time I was around her, and she was amazing! I've kinda come to terms that I cant physically do some of my favouret characters, but it is not because of my build (I am sure I would get a lot of ridicule for it anyway, but thats not the problem), but because I would feel uncomfortable with it, and because of that I wouldnt give the right attitude/confidence to portray it.

+Macabre Derek I agree with you. There are also a lot of characters Iwant to cosplay but will probably never attempt because I just won't fit them. I accept that I won't be able to pull them off and I much rather someone else cosplay them. I'll just stay a happy fan.

I myself am a fat man, I love making costumes and props, And there are tones of chars I wish I could do but I don't have the confidance since they do not fit my body type... Ohhh god I have such plans for a Judge Death costume... but a fat man can not pull off a dessicated dried out corpse look So I also look for chars I like that could me a similar build, I have a Heavy costume put together... I even have made foam prop sandviches for the hell of it but, Or I look for non human char, I'm building armor for a warhammer 40k Ork (my power claw and chain axe are wicked btw) and recently I did the Kingpin while volunteering for on Superhero/supervillian day at my local library. I love the fun I get to have building them but that fear is always in the back of my head that I'll be made fun of if I try sometihng out of my weight class

I like this video and agree with what you are trying to say. Accuracy for a cosplay is nice but it's not screaming that you have to match that body type. Or that skin type. It's nice to have but it's not necessary. I love seeing anyone trying cosplay out. And I'm pretty sure at one point. As cosplayers, we were all bullied. So why are we furthering that? Great job. I love your work btw. :D

Heya^^ Greetings from Germany! Thanks for this video. I think the same way and it's nice that someone has the courage to speak out. Unfortunately many peoples (especially Cosplayers themselves) have forgotten what it's all about.

Thanks for making this video because I felt like l couldn't cosplay because of my sudden weight gain. I have went through some meds that my doctor gave me so it made me feel uncomfortable for a time but now I think I'll give it another go. I'm sort of new so I don't have the skills of many people who have done it a long time but it's fun and it's something I always wanted to do.

They can. ANYONE can cosplay, if they're willing to. Screw those that make fun of them. (Including me.) Those that are cruel and ignorant like that are just jealous and are insecure bullies. (And bullies suck.) I'm a little overweight because of my thyroid. It screwed me up but I'll manage. I want to cosplay as Ash Ketchum or Ganta Igarashi (that I'm RPing as) and go to a mini con or something at least.

Thank you for this. It rings true so much. Honestly, people just don't think about the things they do, I think. I was raised to be nice to everyone, and accept everyone. As someone who's not tiny, I know I'm not going to ever look like any of the characters I cosplay. It's not about that. I do it because I like the characters for whatever reason. I think very few cosplayers actually do it to be recognized for talent or whatever, and those are the ones that compete or make it their job, whatever. The average cosplayer is just having fun. I think people loose sight of that too easily. Really, if you have so much free time to judge those around you, you need better hobbies.

I know you posted this sometime ago... But, you know? You're awesome, you just talked everything I wanted to. I'm kinda fat (A little, but still am), and my first cosplay was as a guy (And yes, I'm a female haha), I used binders because I'm kinda perfectionist, so I wanted to have no chest, and it reduced my belly a little... Ok, I received a LOT of mean comments, but I had some friends who told the same things as you, so I started to think just like them, and I have more 4 ongoing projects. It's a shame that the language I speak isn't english, but I'll share with everybody who can understand, because... We don't need this racism ANYWHERE! Thanks for the amazing video! And thanks for giving us the high spirits!

I prefer OC and will often use things such as cloaks or large shoulder pads and finds that as a larger male cosplayer it helps. And btw if your inhaling glue and spray paint fumes you need a resperator

bro its actually sad i tried cosplaying with a friend of mine and after i posted it i was genuinely confident and liked it but people were being really rude and were telling me daki isnt fat, omg shes taking up all the space and i felt so bad and had to turn off the comments. i was so disappointed with how people reacted, i just wanted to have fun. thank you i really needed this :,)

I remember doing this fun bunny cosplay with my friend. I heard a girl behind me say "look at that huge rabbit girl!" They then bumped past me while laughing. I went right back to the hotel, cried, and left the convention 2 days early. I've been too afraid to go back. Of course this wasn't the only incident that weekend, but that was the one that broke me.

There was a good vine video about cosplay. I loved it and it makes sense. Its the only time we can have fun together with others that share the same love.

I tried to cosplay “Alice” from Alice in wonderland I got the biggest size and when it finally arrived I tried to put it on but it wouldn’t fit or go past my thighs and butt and I ended up ripping it. I felt so ashamed and never tried on another cosplay outfit.

@I Am Who I Am those costumes would not fit most plus size people. Weight loss is between themself and their doctor. Not a fantasy land, just "mind your own damn business" land. Remember what everyone tried to get through your head in elementray school? "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all"

No matter wat gender, race, or religion u should feel comfortable cosplaying wat ever character u want

Some of cosplayers (some of them were often those who previously had low self esteem), once they praised for most times like beautiful or something and also when people starts tagged their photos, they start to think they are celebrities. I had some friends like that, not even making their own costumes and props, but they appear on almost all cons in town with cool clothes and walk proudly with it like they are celebrities. And some of them even count their success from how many people ask to take picture witv them! I've been cosplaying for 5 years and thank god I'm making everything with DIYs with no sleep for days and I'm not even thin but I'm proud :D If you are fat like me, you can find suitable cosplays! Try to make it as cool as it could be, not from your eyes, but also from others' point of view! Put more effort! s the video said, everyone can cosplay! As long as you put your effort on it!

I feel like people you're pretending to be fictional characters. They aren't real you aren't them so you can't judge someone by their size. Of that's the case no-one can cosplay bc none of you are actually any of the characters you're pretending to be.

This actually really helped me. I'm really fat and my dad specially bought me a cosplay that was made to order for a convention that I'm going to soon but I've been so scared about it because of my size and even my mother has said about me having to cosplay fat characters if I'm going to cosplay.

I'm a bigger guy and was always wanting to dress up as my favorite characters when I was little. I'm 15 now and very insecure about my weight. So much so that I find myself having a hard time liking a character just because they are skinny and good looking. That sounds bad but it doesn't mean what you think. I'm getting into naruto right now and I want to like sasuke but I cant. It's hard to explain but hopefully you understand. My favorite character however is Kakashi. I can relate to his personality a lot and also he is a badass. But I'm to afraid to cosplay him because I think I'll look stupid or something like that. Maybe I should just cosplay as choji. I dont know much about hime but he is overweight like me so 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Hey dude, sorry for the slow reply. But cosplay is available to anyone and you can cosplay whoever you want. Hope you've found the time and courage to do what you want the last 2 years =)

Fat people can cosplay, but if you think that human characters are the only type of cosplays one can do and you have to endure the looks and comments you get from others then you are being close minded, because you don't have to limit yourself to just human characters, you can also make cosplays of Giant Robots/Gundams/Evas, Certain Pokemon/Digimon/YuGiOh cards/monsters, Mascots, Dragons, Dinosaurs, Animals, Monsters, Historical Creatures, Non Living Objects like the Blow Up Tube Guy from Car Dealers or even your own original creation, and personally I would love to see more creativity beyond the same old human anime/game/comic characters at conventions and cosplays like Gundams involve far more creativity and effort.

Also look at Daft Punk & Deadmau5 for example, they are some of the best role models because they are known more for their creativity and music then their appearances and are proof you don't really need an image or worry about things like size.

I Really Like this video because although I'm not classed as plus size, I am bigger than a lot of cosplay chicks and I've aways wanted to give cosplay a go but I've always been nervous about my weight.

I'm Chubby, and i cosplay every Charakter what i want to cosplay! It's normal that some people say:,,Ewww, you can't cosplay this"..But for me thats no matter. I do what i want and i think everyone should do this too. If your fat or anything else ...its everytime your thing! ❤

You are right cosplay is meant to be fun body type and color skin and accuracy should not be it it’s about representing your favorite character if female want to cosplay as goku she can there is no right and wrong I cosplay as death stroke costume is not comic accurate I don’t care I have over heating health situation so I don’t have shoulder armor and long sleeve shirt I don’t care don’t like it walk by here is no right and wrong in cosplay I see cosplay guy dressed as sailor moon cosplayer took master chief painted in as Deadpool colors as Deadpool halo character

yeah i think we should all chill!

I'm fat. The reasons for my fatness are no one else's business, but I try to placate people who hate fatties like me by not cosplaying human or female characters, even though there are male characters that I could cosplay. Then Steven Universe came out, and the character of Rose Quartz (who is a chunky but well-loved and well-respected character). Suddenly there is a cute female character I can cosplay without being skinny and big-breasted. But so many other chunky girls have done it well and done it better than me, that it makes me retreat away from cosplaying as her. You just can't win unless you spend a year or two losing weight, by which point you might have lost interest in cosplay. Cosplay is supposed to be fun. But some people insist on making it a pissing contest, slagging off those they believe to be 'below' them because they are not as thin or not accurate enough or have bought their cosplay instead of making it themselves.

ChiBiMo I respect you decision to stay away frm human or female characters. it's the same as myself staying away from tall bishounen crossdress too because I just can't pull it off. But I think the pissing contest needs to stop. And I hope it can start with everyone of us.

If it fits the character then it's fine. But seeing a chubby Naruto it's funny too. lol

Yeah they can cosplay, they just won't look good in it unless that character their cosplaying is that size.

You don't actually have to answer that, I just want you to think about how hard it is to find a overweight character that you like or in a show you watch, they're weight doesn't make them look bad or good

@@lucifersatan3877 1) no that's a false equivalence analogy cause with weight you can actaully change and do something about it unlike with your Race 2) unless you are blind it really does Now listen before making any accusation on me I'm not saying that you can't dress up As whoever you like and only dress up like people you would only look good in, As i know someone who wants to cosplay a certain chacacter but there are things My friend can't do to look more like the chacacter like Race, Height and Eye color, As none of us have are given a choice in how tall we want to be, what race do we wanna Be born as or what eye color we want, not to mention since it's about fictional characters There some things that are going to be unrealistic to us like say someone wants to cosplay Rachel alucard from blazblue or Kaname from Vampire Knight, that would be impossible for people to just naturally look in As no one in the world has red eyes, or if someone wants to cosplay Super buu from Dbz that would be impossible for 99% of people to naturally look good in as He's about 8 feet tall, and if google is correct there is no one alive today that is exactly that tall There was only 1 person that was even taller than that who was 8 feet and 11 inches and his name is Robert Wadlow so the chances of you being 8 feet tall or close are very very slim So yes i do gave a pass for things that we have no control over but weight is something People can change about themselves, no one that is overweight means they will be overweight their whole life same thing with skinny people.

@@trunks1943 not all people can just change their weight, and if they could, they would. A lot of people are born fat, and they can't change that. And even if they could they'd have loose skin that you can't just remove, you'd need surgery to take it off, and then you'd have scars

Glad you made this. I'm not skinny and I kept thinking I wouldn't be cute at all in my cosplay. I wore a corset trying to get smaller. I could hardly move. Lol

Sure they can, but if you're going for authenticity then that pretty much leaves you with scraps to choose from. Let's face it, most "characters" are attractive and have amazing bodies. The average person does NOT have those qualities. I'm not saying they can't cosplay as whoever they want to, but if they're going for realism... it's a long road ahead. There's plenty of non-human characters to choose from though. Personally, I've always found human cosplays to be boring (they look like normal people...yawn...) but those mech/alien cosplays blow my mind. Just my opinion though not trying to be rude.

I don't think its 'bullying' to prefer a more uncanny accuracy over a cosplayer who looks nothing like the character. It's like I always see a Fat Guy dressed up as Sailor Moon. CLEARLY, I'd much rather see a pretty female rather than a fat DUDE. I think there is still room in society to critique and judge based on quality. When did it become a rule that we have to LIKE everything someone does? I dig Cosplay on every level- but for example, when I see a White guy wearing a jerry curl wig and a black suit...and he says he is Jules Winnfield from Pulp Fiction? - NO. TO the overweight girl who squeezes into a Witchblade outfit?? ALSO NO.

No one wants their waifu or hasubando to be screwed by someone's cosplay. But when I saw someone screws up my hasubando, I just could sigh and thought "as long as it's their money, not mine" lol because what I am seeking in cosplayers beside accuracy of the character is their creativity. No matter how good the cosplay is, if what the cosplayer does is wearing all ready-made clothes and props without making even a single dot of it and makeup around cons, they will just be mannequin/runaway model for me.

Thanks for making this video because I felt like l couldn't cosplay because of my sudden weight gain. I have went through some meds that my doctor gave me so it made me feel uncomfortable for a time but now I think I'll give it another go. I'm sort of new so I don't have the skills of many people who have done it a long time but it's fun and it's something I always wanted to do.
