@Mystic The Chinese and Russians (again) could soon have their own chance to show the world how they would deal with a war in Afghanistan. The US "Lost" in Afghanistan for the same reasons every other superpower did. They simply got tired of staying there. Afghanistan is a rural society. There is no large urban elite class that could be co-opted (at least to a large enough scale) to put a local face on administration of the rural areas. China has the world's biggest Navy based on hull numbers alone. The United States still surpasses China both in raw tonnage and in the capabilities of individual ships. Russia doesn't have a claim on the best land forces in the world. They can only operate effectively on territories bordering the Russian Federation, have no global power projection capabilities, and Russia is entering a demographic crisis where its manpower pool of military-aged males is crashing. The Russian economy may improve but that would be because a large chunk of its population will age out of the workforce. Those younger people who would find jobs will get crushed under crippling taxation to support a massive welfare state for Russian retirees. The American military has the best ground forces not based on size alone, but because it is built to be expeditionary and globally deployable. China, Russia, and India all border other great powers with large ground forces. That means those nations must always structure their ground forces to deal with the primary threat first. They could never be as agile or flexible as those of the United States which borders Mexico and Canada who are both militarily weak nations.

Mr Awkward your ignorance is absolutely amazing; the U.S. is NOT the only country to participate in a war and they most certainly did not invent the concept of it as you so ignorantly insinuated. War has been a constant though out human history and the idea that countries start wars by invading other sovereign nations which leads to the victors enjoying the ‘spoils of war’ is a centuries old concept. That is an unequivocal and irrevocable FACT. Now as the U.S. done this over the decades? Absolutely they have; but they’re not the only one to do it nor will they be the last one to do it. So go read a book.

Just think about Japan at the end of WWII. I heavily disagree, the North Korean Nuclear Program is not as threatening as it used to be. Added, the USA and China have increasing tension between the 2 nations.China is not challenging the US right now because of Nuclear Weaponry in the USA. China only has 100 or less(Certainly not more) Nuclear Weapons. The US has a surplus of Nuclear Weapons, over 6,800 (certainly not less). If the US decides to take a gamble and trade its allies for the destruction of China(A risk no reasonable person will take, making it really, really unlikely) China will only have a few chances to retaliate. And blockading China will be difficult. China has a large enough capability to make new warships(the term loosely refers to the ability to restore the navy, rather than the class of Naval vehicles). As such, until we have an era of another cold war, not dissimilar to that between the US and USSR, we wont see direct military conflict between the two

My issue is saying 20k marines will have to hold off 975k Chinese. How are they going to get 975k soldiers to the beach in the first couple days? No way. Also you said “ even if we had air superiority” we couldn’t hold back that force for 3.5 days to land the rest of the troops? Yea right that’s crazy

So if the US ever did launch an invasion on China I believe they would use their EMP technology without restraint to effectively knock out a vast majority if not all of the major weapons upon aboard the US naval fleets and aircraft active in the area leaving them with their basic weaponry like their guns and non - tracking missiles, which would then leave hundreds of thousands of US personnel and millions of dollars worth of US weaponry at the mercy of Chinese forces. By the way if you read all this you are a legend and I hope this would be a war we will never have to see (cause we all knows that the US and Chinese governments would call on all their allies and probably start World War 3)
