By that definition of pure of heart, Batman is 100% pure of heart. He may beat up criminals and villains, but he does it to protect others. And he pours his fortune into getting said criminals and villains the help they need to deal with their violent tendencies. He adopts orphans, funds orphanages and foster care programs, as well as pouring his fortune into improving his city and every single thing he does, he does for the good of others. And ultimately, that's why Bruce wouldn't be worthy to wield it. The enchantment seems to respond to humility and the willingness to fight as a warrior, sacrificing your own life and taking the lives of others. Batman's need for control never let's him go all out because he's unwilling to drop his code for the greater good. Captain America avoids killing, but will if he has to. Bruce won't. He's willing to let people die to protect his own code.

  • @just1randomguy658

@@marcusmcneal7453 And his code is part of why he's Batman, most heroes wouldn't give a damn about killing a villian but Batman DOES. If Batman killed, he would be no better than Joe Chill, the man who killed his parents, and even the Joker for that matter. Batman knows that, if he killed people, he could be killing someone's husband, father, or son. Because Batman has felt that pain very early on in his life, him killing could inflict the same pain among others. Though, unfortunately, Batman probably wouldn't be able to wield Thor's hammer, he's the msot worthy man of all. His willingness to put his feelings behind for others shows how much he really cares for people. That's something Zack Snyder never understood. (Sorry this was so long, kinda)

I think if Thor told Batman of the hammer, Batman would respond with: "Am I worthy? That's hard to say. Worthiness by who's standards? By the warmongering and tyrannical Allfather himself? Unlikely. Worthy by morality? Well, morality is just a system of checks the self-conscious endow upon themselves in an effort to maintain balance, order and harmony. But morality can be flexible. Is it 'moral' for someone such as myself to break into buildings, kidnap certain individuals, beat them within an inch of their lives and interrogate information out of them? No. No, it is not. But is it necessary, to keep the peace? ... I don't think I am worthy. And if I am, I wouldn't want to be. If I became worthy, it means I am doing something wrong." *HUGE UPDATE!* - Read the comments below to find a dialog exchange between Batman and Thor, complete with panel ques for how the comics would be illustrated during this exact exchange!! it's both actually. he has promised himself to not allow another boy to cry those same tears, of course he isn't always successful, but that is only half of it. there is still the vengeful side of the mission. where he chooses to crush dark forces through dark means. that also doesn't outright make him unworthy. Steve Rogers has been shown to be worthy in both the comics, and the MCU and contrary to outward appearances he too has a dark side, and he too has faults. he is bullheaded, arrogant. often believing his way is the only way even when he is wrong. see, the funny thing is, people always think Stark is Marvel's counter to the Bat because of their wealth, when it is in fact Steve Rogers who better mirrors Bruce Wayne's persona. their biggest difference is literally just that one stands in the light and the other in the shadows but when you compare their character traits than between the universes they are the most similar. following that logic, if Rogers is worthy, than so too is Wayne. also, we gotta dismiss the "hammer is the power of Thor" Thor wields the power of Thor. Mjolinir has its own power and there have only been a couple of cases where getting the hammer gave someone Thor's own power and this was always Odin's influence on the hammer, not the hammer itself. so he wouldn't suddenly become a god just by wielding it, and therefore would not become corrupted through absolute power. he would simply be wielding a tool, a powerful tool, but a tool none the less. sometimes his combat style is heavily based on to begin with and it is a tool he would be leery of and use sparingly because of his cautious and analytical nature. studying it more than he would ever swing it.

I feel like it could be a Spider Man situation. In the comics, Peter Parker was able to lift Mjolnir, but couldn't use the powers. I feel like the same thing would happen to Batman, due to his rule of not killing.

According to the comics one of the reasons you can be worthy of wielding is to do whatever it takes which also can include killing, which Batman cannot allow himself to do. If Batman were to lift the game it would because his soul could tap into the full strength of its power in ways Thor probably couldn’t. Wonder Woman would most definitely be worthy to wield Mjolnir.

Just a few questions/mentions here: Does "fedelity" apply only for your romantic relationships? Because when it comes to his interpersonal relationships, Batman is definitely someone you can rely on. He does cross the oceans if he has to in order to assist those who are dear to him so yeah Bruce Wayne sure is quite the playboy but he did commit himself to his relationships while they worked Selina Kyle, Zantana etc. He did remain loyal to them while their relationship lasted. The problem with him is indeed his secretive and overly workaholic tendencies that made those relationships non-functional (with the addition of some of his partners dying too) Hospitality has many different views. Yes, Batman's social skills probably suck due to the fact that he bears many secrets inside him and thus taking people randomly roaming about in his house would be out of the question but he never refused help and a place to stay when people needed it and let's face it, he has taken in so many children and proteges so I think that he does apply for hospitality, just not in the usual way of "welcome and everything I own is yours too" because...duh he has his entire secred identity hidden in his basement and tons of emotional trauma inside him. One of the reasons he keeps people away from him is not only his horrible social skills and trust issues but also his fear that someone will get hurt because of him. For honor and truth I'd say he has them. Truth not so much as a matter of fact he is more capable than many others to lie when he has to but when he is honest he definitely doesn't hold back. Also his "non-killing" rule he has held for like 99% of time apart from a few bad guy he casually left to die. Let's say that he is overly judgemental with the tendencies of becoming extreme (so to your later question of what he would do with it if he had absolute power of it, I'd say it depends. He does have this tendency of being absolute or extreme from time to time but overall I think he understands the horror of someone facing superhuman powers because he himself is facing them every day to some extent so I'd say he probably wouldn't abuse the power unless he was overly angry at someone or that he is corrupt) I totally agree to your analysis upon him acting tough mostly out of an act or a persona instead of him being a douche because indeed his primarly purpose was to scare others off and let's face it he knows he has no powers so his best way is to intimidate his enemies in order to create openings for himself. He doesn't have Superman's invincible skin to just rush into battle. The final moments of your analysis are actually great and that sounds really like him. Yeah if he ever got corrupt and he would get extreme with the hammer and be saved by that power maybe he would indeed refrain from even trying again or if he ever did try it again, it would be to save the day or assist someone for one mere moment and that's it And yeah I doubt that someone would casually kill Thor and make Batman hold the hammer forever. Sooner or later he would have to give it back. Overall I agree with your points like 99%! Really great analysis and thank you for pointing out both good and bad sides of Batman's character

I do think Batman is pure of heart because as you mention he tries to talk the villains down a lot of the time. It is because Batman tries to see the good in people and giving them a second chance. Some great examples of this is Mr. Freeze in the animated series who is often wronged and lashing out. Or that time when he Comforted Ace in her final moment while the rest of the League wanted to kill her as a threat. Another example is also from the animated series where Nightwing is telling Robin why he left during one time when Batman chased a criminal all the way back to his house and threatened the guy in front of his family. Which Nightwing who was robin at the time saw it as going to far. However after the story the two find a wallet that belongs to that same guy. When they return the wallet the ex-criminal tells them of how he once encountered the Batman and that it scared him straight. He also mentioned how greatful he was to Mr. Wayne for giving him a job as an ex-criminal, something that can be hard to find and why a lot of people end up as repeat offenders. He even mentions that Mr. Wayne stops by from time to time and ask about how his family is doing. This story I think really shows the two personas of Batman and why he keeps them divided. The Batman is suppose to be the Boggy man which scares criminals and is going to get them, the idea is much like in the movie the Dark Knight that crime is on the decline because criminals don't know if Batman is gonna jump out and catch them in the act. And so having that safe haven of Batman easing up because of what is around would not only lessen his impact but also potential expose a weakness they could try to exploit. Where as in contrast being Bruce allows him to express his more compassionate side in helping people out by giving them a job, community works projects, and stopping in once in a while to show he cares about them as people not just faceless workers in his company.

Amanda waller said it best you'll never find another person who cares as much about his fellow man and who is willing to sacrifice it all for them as Batman. I don't believe he would become how they try to say he would when he had Superman's powers or the chair, I'd say with his strength and character of will he would be the most likely candidate to not let it change and corrupt him. At least not most versions of Batman now, I'd say there are a few that could be corrupted but after it happened once they wouldn't be again and would be able to wiled the hammer but wouldn't take the chance it happening again and would just leave it be.

A man who had spent his entire life learning and endeavouring to fight crime with all he's got would soon become corrupted with the power that would allow him to do it so much more easily. But I think once he realizes that he has become unworthy after losing control to rage which is his driving emotion,he will find a way to truly become worthy of the hammer and not give it up. Cause Batman would not give up.

In my opinion batman would use mjolnir as often as hell bat armor just and only for some kind of space misions and for combat people that are just to strong for him. And imagine that: -batman (one of the best fighters on planet) -hammer that give's you power of thor himselfe -hell bat armor (batmans costume which was made by every mamber of JL for batman. And in which batman was able to knock out darksied in one hit) -and a greatest detective of all time (so he could find oponents weakness in seconds) And combine all this things

In mainline Marvel comics, Mjolnir chooses those not just with pure hearts or good intentions, but a warrior’s spirit as well. Non canon sources often overlook this fact, but you have to be willing to kill an enemy in order to wield the hammer. This is why Spider-Man couldn’t lift the hammer but Captain American can. It’s the will to end an enemy that is a key component to its use. Mjolnir was meant for war as well as the defense of Asgard. So no, Batman probably couldn’t lift the hammer if it was going by conventional rules. Considering that people like Superman have lifted the hammer just goes to show how crossovers and other-world stories just confuse the original rules of the Mjolnir itself.

  • @deusthe3rd

The big issue for Batman is the same as Spiderman. Both are 100% unwilling to kill someone to save any amount of people (ex. Joker). Remember that Odin is a Viking and killing and dying in battle is the norm and the worthyness is based on his views. In some continuities this is actually brought up about Spiderman. Doesn't mean they have to kill to save of course.
