    When I saw the Lockheed Martin tree bomb idea, I immediately thought that each sapling should be embedded in a couple of pounds of frozen top soil carefully molded into the right pointy aero-bomb shape. The sapling itself acts like the fledge on the bomb. Avoid all the cardboard...simply drop them by the 1000s while still frozen. (I'm from Canada: here trees don't mind ice much)

Accurately hitting within a 10 acre parcel might be very difficult in an ultralight, but with a little practice a personal drone may be able to do a better job. Hover in place then move 4' forward until the whole grid is covered. The irony is how many trees needed to be removed to create those empty fields which now make ideal placed to air bomb more trees.

    I'm not so sure spots matter much. I've been an avid outdoorsman my whole life and some of the stuff I have seen totally amazes me. They're quite amazing in their own ways.

    John Possum I’ve seen trees growing in impossible places as well, it’s incredible what nature can do. I believe when it comes to make a quick and cheap reforestation project it’s really important to be efficient to be effective. Seedlings used for reforestation are very susceptible to bad planting, which will lead them to a premature death. Me myself having to go to areas that have been planted couple years before by bad planters to fill up the gap of dead trees. What makes those reforestation seedlings more vulnerable is mainly their plugs, that are there to supplement their nutrition needs until it is connected to the surrounding area. There are major faults that would make those trees die, including; over burying, a loose tree, a tree planted too shallow a J rooted tree, a tree planted on a wrong type of soil. The list goes on and on, that’s why the micro site selection is so important and why a good planter will be always more effective than a random spraying of an airplane. The industry of reforestation is suffering from lack of planters, as it is a really hard Job and not many people are willing to spend months in the bush sweating and suffering. I hope that new technologies can come and help us to do a better job, and am eager to see how planting will look like in the future.

  • @orlandomorgado5

    @orlandomorgado5

    John Possum keep in mind that I see the reforestation through the eyes of a planter. That makes me want to be as efficient as possible, and I tend to use our industry specifications of quality to measure the success of a process. And I believe it would be unfair to discredit the use or test of new methods of planting.

    Concept are prooved, but shell definitely needs improvement. It should fully opened on impact. rigid biodegradable plastic frame can work. Also you don't need plant grown tree. Seed in a good soil sould be enough, so casette of small shells may be preferable. In that case you don't even need to burrow the seed, just drop and slightly fixate it. Design of a first moon landers can work here) We need pt.2 ))

    Also this video has the ultra light? Hell yes! So glad to see it flying again. Just don't get the FAA called on you again. I mean if you do then cool make a video and get them clicks but.... I do wish to see this done over an area that the trees could actually be planted and we could see their growth over time but this is still cool. But that final shot was cool as hell!
