I would recommend Synthesizer V from Dreamtonics as a realistic (most of the time) female-voiced synthesizer (Eleanor Forte voice). There is a free version. It can be easily multi-tracked for background singer harmonization. The following is an example of its use in western-style music: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lKGFzMSJh8W4nLQ.html

I have both Emvoice with Lucy and Jay and synthesizer v studio pro with the full version of Solaria and a couple other voice packs which are the lite version. I plan on getting Kevin for synthesizer v, it sounds very realistic as there are so many that you can do to make ithe articulations that much more realistic. I recommend Synthesizer V studio pro over the free version as you can control all the articulation in the voices. Solaria and Kevin are English voice.

A lot of softwares and plugins can do that! Vocaloid is the most famous, UTAU (free!!) can use your own samples (of voices or anything like some users do), Chipspeech recreates the sound of famous 80′s voice synthesis chips (copy-pasted) and can be used as singer!! (it has like 6 or 8 voices? can also be used as actual synth, it's extremely versatyl and i love it), Alter/Ego which is free and by the same company. Synthesizer V is really good, and sounds quite realistic, it's the direct competitor of Vocaloid imo. There's also CeVIO, DeepVocal, and many others! emvoice is not bad but not my fav, and quite expensive for what it was able to do at the time. now it has quite improved and I'm really happy to see this video and how far it has come! i think it's the only one that works only online though... the major downside of it. the vocal synth 'fandom' knows a lot of things about the softwares and the voicebanks, never hesitate to ask anyone!

There's also AlterEgo, an older voice synthesizer, the legatos are crazy, and the software and two of three voices are free! It's probably more of a robotic-sounding approach as it is older and is nowhere as seamless in vocal pronunciations but it's a cool thing!

@@heparo8704 Splash Pro is free and not only does it generate midi chords, melodies and drums better than the overpriced Unison plugins, but also automatically generates a male or female singing from any midi file including the ones it generates from a set of custom parameters. The vocals only comes in the basic two M/F and does not give any control for vibrato and glisando like emvoice nor any variance. Since Splash Pro was introduced as a free service and royalty free, emvoice has lowered their retail price to $99 for each of the 3 voices and they are currently on sale as of Feb 7, 2022 for only $59 for Lucy, $59 for Jay and $79 for Thomas. I just now bought them. I just started using both Splash Pro and Emvoice. I do not want Thomas as it is the infamous autotune sound. I have been experimenting with morphing the formants and transients with better sampled vocals with Zynaptiq Morph 2. It is tricky to do but have yielded better results than just with either splash or emvoice and sounds more realistic. Morph 2 is NOT A VOCODER and will truly morph two sounds together the same way picture morphing does not layer two sources but rather transform them into something new. However Morph 2 on robotic older style text to singing yields some improvement but not as good so long as the second sample is of high quality. The trick into truly morphing two formants together is to morph two samples to match as close to the same pitch as possible and keep genders the same, but also works on lower octaves and cross gender but not as well. Still though not a stellar singing performance but is great for backing tracks and choirs. There is also Eastwest Hollywood Choirs which is a 59GB at $499 or 8GB at $399 that does the same thing but for realistic choirs. IT DOES NOT REQUIRE A CONSTANT INTERNET CONNECTION. It does not have a dictionary and is only programmed with about 200 phonemes. I almost can get the same quality by morphing my own but is a lot of trial and error and lots of mixing and bouncing tracks. I will probably buy this library as soon as it goes on sale.

I have made tunes with Emvoice,Realivox Blue and Synth V`s Eleanor Lite version. As far as workflow and ability to control expression,Synth V is very good even in their lite version. They have some "AI" versions in English coming out beginning of next year, namely Solaris being put together by Eclipsed Sounds. The thing that is unique about Synth V is there are global controls for breathiness, tension, volume, gender, vibrato and others as well as individual note parameters to articulate each note on its` own. There are already AI versions in Japanese and Chinese but not of much use to me here in the west. Can`t wait to see how much more sensitive the new voices with AI will be.Oh,nice video by the way.I love my eggs oiled.Old family tradition.

As with most software these days, it's too expensive. If it was $39 they would make a fortune because it's interesting enough, and probably useful enough, that people would buy it in droves just to see if it would work for them in some way - backing vocals, doubling, etc. The other problem is that it seems to have zero expressiveness, and I'd rather hear an average singer with feel, than this. As always though, thanks Guy for the demo!

This is the beginning of the future! Songwriters who are not great singers will be able to use a "EZ Vocalist" style program with different expansion packs for different timbres of voices. Imagine you can make George Michael, John Lennon or Frank Sinatra sing your tune. Amazing. Obviously, there's still much work to do with intonation, velocity and the many articulations. But this is definitely the beginning of that possibility. I wonder if it would become possible for songwriters to record a guide track with a certain intention and timing and then replace the sound and timbre of that track with the voice of a world class (famous) singer. Or create a customized virtual singer modelled the way you imagine.

I wonder if they'll do a range of accents. Jay isn't quite Neil Sedaka but definitely west of the Atlantic. A bit of Rab C Nesbitt maybe, or even Falco?! (Sorry Herr Hölzel).

Both are sample-based actually but very different. Eastwest Hollywood Backup Singers is made to emulate a group of singers doing backing vocals. Emvoice One is made to emulate a lead singer - and can do backing vocals, if you open several instances of the plugin. The workflow is also pretty different, Eastwest works with a text editor and a separate "time editor", whereas Emvoice has a single piano-roll UI for both text and music.

What will happen though, is this tech will get better. And people will use it. Much like you get CGI in films that can reproduce someone, or bring back an actor from the dead. As you say Guy, perhaps you will get diseased artists packs with royalties going to their families or foundations or whatever. So you will somewhere down the like get new material released by - or at least sounding like - your favorite crooner.
