When we were kids in the early days of paintball guns, my friend Thomas put a Whopper (TM) malted milk ball into his paintball gun and it fit PERFECTLY. He then proceeded to shoot our friend Jeremy RIGHT in the forearm "rabbit" spot with a Whopper (tm) from about 5ft away. It was brutal. Poor ole Remy had a green and purple welt there for weeks. He bled a little but it didn't imbed in his skin or anything. But damn...savage. RIP Remy. Miss ya brother.

You guys can get much higher velocities if you replace that ball valve with a modified 1" sprinkler valve (available at Home Depot), all you have to do is unthread the solenoid coil from the top of the valve and fill the hole with epoxy, then once that cures drill a 7/16" hole in the center of the diaphragm cover plate (remove all the screws and separate the parts, then drill the cover plate separate from the valve body or you'll either drill through the diaphragm or get plastic drill shavings between the sealing edges). Once you drill the 7/16" hole tap 1/4"-NPT threads into it and then thread a pneumatic blow gun into the hole with Teflon tape. This will be your actuation valve, all you need to do to fire the system is charge the chamber with pressure (which is _WAAAAAAAY_ too big BTW, a 3" diameter piece of PVC about 4 feet long will give you the same results without wasting air) then press the blow gun trigger, the valve will open in a few hundredths of a second instead of the half second it takes that ball valve to open. It operates exactly like a Quick Exhaust Valve, or QEV for short, they're what you hear when a truck releases it's brakes, that rapid burst of air is vented from a QEV. If you try the system with just the solenoid electronic actuation it will open very _very_ slowly, most of the time it just makes a hysterical honking noise because the diaphragm flutters and can't decide whether to open or close. But if you do what I explained, the blowgun evacuates the pilot side of the valve nearly instantaneously and provides the maximum possible amount of pressure to the projectile in the least amount of time. And since the valve will only stay open as long as the blow gun is pressed, it shuts off airflow much sooner than you could close the ball valve. Just my 2 cents, I've only been building professional potato guns for two decades😉. For a much deeper look into the subject of pnuematically triggered valves and potato guns in general (these pneumatic guns this size are considered child's play BTW lol), check out the SpudTech forums at Spudtech .com.

Edit: I just looked them up and they are now called the fitness earbuds. And they are also waterproof, which I did not know, so of course fine through the wash. Prices are definitely going up since a year ago (early 2021)
