Can a driver mechanic his own car ?
Hey Guys I hope you'll enjoy this format. This is something I've never done before on this channel.
As you can see I had to change the brake pads , the engine oil and to check the car carburetor on my Mustang and wanted to share this moment with you.

You have to retract the pistons in order to get them to slide in. A quick tip when doing brakes, 1/4 inch internal diameter fuel hose slips right over the brake bleeder. Crack the bleeder open when retracting the brake caliper pistons, and as you retract the piston, it pushes all the crud in the caliper out of the bleeder along with any air. Then just top off the brake fluid reservoir. I like to drain the brake fluid reservoir and fill it with fresh fluid before doing this. Between gravity bleeding and whatever you push out when retracting the pistons, usually amounts to a full brake flush. I understand the drums in the rear are a little more involved to do. If you want to turn the engine over without it cutting on(to cycle the oil through the engine), pull the fuel pump relay, and remove the plugs. This way the starter isn't struggling against the engine's compression.

This is the type of content that I have always needed but never knew I needed.
The filter needs only to be adjusted by hand, the tool is for the removal. Good job.
Love the video! Protip for the next oil change, tighten the filter just past hand tight, and always check to make sure the seal came off with the old filter and it isnt stuck on the mating surface.

always tighten the oil filter by hand next time 👍

Yep, he may pay the price when he tried to remove it next time. As much as he was straining I wouldn't be surprised to see him having to use a screw driver through the filter to get it off next time.
This is an unexpected pleasure. Thanks for letting us hang out with you while you do this. And learn a little too!
Romain Grosjean is that one cool uncle that never lets you down and always knows how to have almost too much fun
Chrisfix Would be proud. Always nice to see you Romain. Hope to see some colab with some youtubers
I just love watching you do things. I’ve never seen anyone so happy to change oil and brake pads before. 😊 You make us all happy, Romain.
Makes it easier if you compress the pistons before putting the pads back in.
OK. More respect for Romain for doing his own maintenance. Good stuff!
First step - Jack up your car! Good stuff Romain!
Mad respect! Love you're doing this!
Romain you are awesome. IM happy you took this step
That’s awesome man! Love that Mustang! Good job doing your own work, I started doing the same thing now I’m restoring a classic Bronco
That's a beautiful car Romain! This type of content is awesome!

Awesome vid and the Mustang is awesome too like those Shelby wheels and 289 HiPO engine . Good job
Hi Romain ! honnestly, a great job ! Congratulations 👍😊🙏✌️.
Wow super video.
Sweet little Mustang! Good to see you getting your hands dirty with it.
Way to go. Much like the Mustang I learned to drive on 55 years ago (my mom's). Now you can change pads on your Indycar if need be. Beautiful car!
Hey Romain, nice car. Better then my 2008 minivan crapbox that’s for sure
amazing video, more of this please
Love your Mustang and love this vid!
Pro vlogger Romain!! Killed it!
Nice car. I used to have a 1965 hard top. Miss that car. Good car to learn about cars and easy to work on. Couldn't tell if you have a Holley or a Edelbrock. The Holley's were always a pain so I switched. Have fun with it
Oh snap, my dude did a thing! Atta Boy 🤘🏾
Nice job!
This was the best vid I’ve seen in a long time.
Génial cette vidéo 😉
You should not use any tool to tighten the new oil filter. Tighten it only by hand. Otherwise very good job. 👍

Little trick for if you need to ever do the brakes again. Long flat head screw driver put it between pad and rotor and use it as a pry bar. It will push the pistons in so you can get the pads in and out easier.

The oil filter wrench is for loosening the filter and it is only supposed to be hand tight when put back on

I’m 66. I’ve done these things since I was a teenager. I’m still learning to do things better, thanks to KZread. I’ve never pre-filled my filter. I better think about adding this to my procedure. Thanks Roman.

I'm 68, have never "prefilled" an oil filter, and am not going to start now. For one thing, the filter doesn't always hang straight down, so how would you avoid spilling a bunch of that oil out of the new filter? Just dip a fingertip into the new oil and use it to put a thin film of oil onto the filter gasket and the spin-on threads. I was also appalled to see him cranking down on that new filter with a filter wrench. That's a great way to *make* that new filter leak. As the instructions say, rotate clockwise by 3/4 turn after the gasket makes contact with the flange. Here's a deal I'll offer Romain: I'll change the oil, and in return, you can take me for a fast and lively drive in that car. We should all stick to what we do best.
@duckmyass

Pre-filling is not necessary. I'm betting his garage has oil stains on it after this.
Hey I've been working on cars since I could walk and you did just as good of a job as me
Great to see these videos from you, although I was just waiting for some French cursing from you while you were changing the brake pads.
Good job
Well done
I love your car bro its so beautiful , by the way does your mustang have a name?
Wheeler dealers with Romain. Awesome car.
nice car Romain
Would love to see you do a triathlon on that tri bike!
Hi Romain! One small suggestion, if one of your aims is to educate others, please put in the narration what bolt sizes etc you are using .
This is the slowest Pit stop I ever seen by a f1 driver 🤣🤣🤣👀🍻 good to See your hand is ok, and you can use it 👍🏻💪
What a cool KZread channel!
I've only done that once on my Mazda 323F. Surprisingly easy, having a mountainbike with disc brakes.
Romain - $50 and a $10 socket at the local Harbor Freight will buy you a 110v electric (in your world) 'wheel gun.' It makes R&R of wheels so much easier!
Good tip when doing anything if the car is jacked up is put the wheel under the car, as a extra fail safe if the jack stands and jack fail the wheel will catch the car, it saved my life 2 years ago when using a shitty scissor jack.
Romain est géniale ! Salutations de Genève
Great job! After you retire as a racer you can get a job in Indy Car or F1 as a mechanic.
Romain, the question is, how did you transfer the oil that almost overflowed to a new pan?! Lol
Good job. The oil filter looks too tight. Hand-tighten only, maybe a 1/4 turn after contact.

@@MrRoko91 If you over tighten you can get to a situation where you will literally have to rip the filter off with more than oil filter wrench. I learned that the hard way growing up when I ended up having to hammer a screw driver through the filter so I could twist it off as your filter wrenches have limited grip before they start twisted down the ridges on the filter.
Do you grease the threads?
Oh Romian, the yank-ify has been complete.
Am I the only one whos especailly appreciative that he is using jackstands rather then having a lift? Dont get me wrong, I much prefer to work on a lift. Just gearhead/petrolhead things. I actually look forward to my service intervals, especailly since I dont really have money for modifications currently.
Hey Roman, great to see u ride rim brake bikes !!! as a racing driving maybe you could explain to all these stupid cyclists that is the size of the contact patch to the road that makes braking performance not these stupid disc brakes that have been fitted to road bikes these days !!

I just watched a driver that doesn't know how to start a carbureted engine. Never pump the accelerator while cranking the engine with the starter.
Hey bos, invest in some wireless mic. Your voice sound not very good.
This was way longer than 2.5 seconds.
audio needs improvement
Uh, that pad was not completely gone. Not even close. Also loosen the cap on the brake fluid reservoir before you start compressing the caliper and for the love of god you don't use a hammer to force a brake pad in. If you've squeezed the caliper enough the pad will slide in easily. You should always have a pan to collect the oil that is much larger than you need, and while you may have gotten the filter on there is a good chance you will have a horrible time trying to get it off next time. You only use a wrench to remove the filter not to tighten it. And I'm not sure why you checked your carb to see if it was leaking, unless you've recently rebuilt the carb you wouldn't need to look for any leaks. I think you are better behind the wheel than you are working on the car.
Mustang, an icon A Legend ❤️
Don't know why you bother with a Ford of any kind, other than a GT40
