Camping Near Mackinaw City & Mackinac Island, Michigan
We spent a few days camped near Mackinaw City. The site was awesome and overlooking the water of Lake Huron, Mackinac Island and the Mackinac Bridge. This video shows our day adventure over to the Island and also one of our camp cooks.

Drove around Lake Michigan and stopped right where you are 47 years ago but I was able to drive my Jeep. It was a grueling drive for me because I had a bad back/neck even at 21 years old. Wish I could do those things again but at least my wife and I did it once. P.S. we’ve been happily married for 43 years.
can't imagine living where there are no cars, no rush, horse and buggy or walking to get around. to me it was like living in the past. thanks for sharing.

Bike most of the time. They do have some emergency vehicles on the island and they do use snowmobiles in the winter.

It’s beautiful on Mackinaw Island. It’s not that big. Cars would mess up the whole area.
A few suggestions for your next visit to Mackinac Island: - For the best view, sit on the top deck of the ferry. - Some of the ferries take a detour and go under the Mackinac bridge on the way to the island. While it takes a little longer, it does not cost any more and the view is spectacular. - While The road around the perimeter of the island is relatively flat and easy to bike, the interior is very hilly. For those that wish to experience both the beauty of the island along with a historic narration, I highly recommend Mackinaw carriage tours.
What an absolutely lovely place!! And you guys scored a really nice spot on the campground! Thanks for sharing and take care!!
Shot over the table with the Dutch oven taco dinner, railway torch, and looking at the lake... Classic brochure composition!
Mill Creek Campground is nice. We usually stay at Tee Pee which is just north of there. They have spots right on the beach.
Wow I just saw this video. I’m glad you guys made it to visit there . I really enjoyed my time there. The boat ride to mackinaw Island was pretty cool. Riding a boat that moves along pretty quickly with a rooster tail of water shooting out the back.
Yum, taco stack! When I saw the hamburger meat cooking I knew...lol!
Jet propulsion on them ferry's ! Nice camp fire and tacos or enchaladas. Perfect with a cold Banquet. Enjoy.
Going to the Island in the off-season isn't too bad. After Labor Day it gets really quiet up there. Probably one of the best times to go really because there are far fewer people there than in the summer time.
Mackinaw mill creek my favorite place
For those who may not know. After the ferries stop running from the mainland for winter time, the island does not completely shut down. There are many people that live on the island all year long. The only way to get off the island is find a buddy with a fair size boat. However you can be flown off in a medical emergency but they do have a full hospital on the island for medical needs. After the water freezes you can traverse the lake ice to the mainland on snowmobiles. The trip is not for the faint of heart, and you must be with someone who knows the path. Not sure what and where you went on the island. Besides the tee shirt and fudge shops, there is more to do on the island. My favorites are the two butterfly houses, one on the end of main street and the other at the top of the hill. If you have the funds, take the buggy ride around the island and one of the stops is the butterfly house saving you to climb the hill. Abby and Adam I hope you had a great time in our state. I wish I could have joined you on your journey as you have picked some of my favorite places to visit. Stay safe on your way homeward.

I was going to ask about how long the ferry runs?
When we go east from Wa. to New England we always stop at the Mac... we've done the trip over 40 times. :)
Did you all go see the famous hotel? Go to the fort? Take the walking/bike/horse tour around the island? So much more then the tourist trip main street.
A lovely to quiet video. Really enjoyed it. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing it’s definitely beautiful there hope you have a wonderful time
Great video Thank you.
The fudge is outstanding there! Thanks for this video, I never thought of camping there. Went twice as a child to the island.
Greg from northern Michigan. Great video. Thanks for visiting us up north ! The pace on the island is slow and easy, and we like it that way. We book the same hotel rooms on Main Steet every three years, and ride our bikes around the island with friends. It's our fun thing to do in the middle of summer.
Very nice folks!
lovely place it seems. cheers.
Nice video, beautiful campground Thanks
Years ago my father and I and a family friend went across the Ludington Bay ferry it was quite the experience
Been going there for 35 years ❤️
Pretty place. Nice boat ride. 👍
Beautiful beautiful ❤️
We were there several years back in the summer when the horse Armona was probably at its piqué😀😀😀.
making me so homesick
It’s a different feel but I recommend Put-In-Bay in Lake Erie, Ohio.
We went again this year. it makes twice we have been there. Darrow's restaurant in Mackinaw city is a must do.

@@mitchcumstein9808 Always loved the area. We ate near the hotel during our last trip this past summer. They had closed 75 south of town and rerouted traffic through town.

Mill Creek Campground
@3:47 That ferry was moving pretty good! Rooster tail and all! Wonder what's in the engine room? I've never taken a cruise, but I'd have to ask when the engine room tours are! Probably get a "Um, we don't DO that" response! 😆 And great to see the beer supply there! Reminds me I need to make a "provisions run" today. Does Adam like Guinness Extra Stout? I know *I* do. Abby seems to like a Stout. The Germans call beer "Liquid Bread" because it has all the ingredients, just in different proportions. 🤣 And LOL "The Pink Pony"? Here in Atlanta it is NOT a restaurant (if you know what I mean, wink, wink)!
Do you guys have camp at Mill Creek Campground. My family goes up there every year just for the campground. The view is awesome. Did you guys see any freighters come through? I just found your channel, not sure where are you from by Hope you enjoyed want to Michigan’s greatest places to visit.
I LOVE LOVE my state GO BLUE
Also, what camp ground did yall stay at? We stayed at St Ignance Tiki RV resort
Hey! Your in my city, 😊
What is the name of the campground you stayed? We are planning a trip for next summer and are looking for a campground.
I haven't been to Mackinac since there were HoJo's along the way.
Just returned from staying 4 days at the Grand Hotel.
Did yall come up the WI side instead of across the bridge?
If you didn’t visit the Grand Hotel and ride the carriage tour you missed the best parts of the island. My wife worked at the restaurant where you had the beer when she was in college. Long time ago, but we visit the area every few years.

The restaurant is fairly new. Great Turtle Brewery opened in 2019. Before that it was Goodfellows. I agree about the carriage tour and Grand Hotel.
Are you going to highlight the campground, or keep it a secret hideaway?

Milwaukee is as far as I made it in Wisconsin, didn't make it past the breweries. LOL Thanx for the tour of Mackinac Island, that was unique. Detroit is the only place in Michigan I have been, you have helped me expand my horizons.😃
Did you see anything on the island other than the downtown adea?
what camp ground did you stay at

Was going to ask same question, but found your post. Beautiful spot and view. I just got back from a RV trip to the Soo Locks. Will plan another trip back to Mackinaw City and stay at Mill Creek. Thanks.
So you’re going to be Fuggies!
Great photo of Abby by the campfire. Course it’s easy to make a great picture of a pretty girl.
