Hi Corporal, I subbed to this channel. Good stuff! I also learned a little twist o the taut line hitch the other day. You can finish it with a quick release rather than pulling all the line through. Just pull a loop through and tighten it up. It doesn't weaken the knot but makes untying it much faster if it has been under load. What do you think?

Americans are truly blessed to have retreats in the wild to pitch a tent and "commune" with nature. After five + years in the Philippines, I can tell you that the Walmart YURT would be Shangri-la for many of the poor here in the Phils. So YOu would not have to pick up debris from One like me. Even before smoking went out of fashion. I was the considerate smoker, that didn't smoke around other people that didn't smoke, and didn't smoke in their homes, even if permission was granted. It just felt wrong to me. Just found this channel. I'm an avid outdoors fan and I like your videos for a few reasons. I suck at knots, for one. You make good use of a minimal amount of tools. And finally, when I'm stuck indoors, I can escape for a bit putting one of your videos on...you do a good job editing your videos to make me feel like I'm there breathing that clean fresh air without making it all into an excessive lecture and "how to". You are brief and straight to the point. Great stuff!

Great video. I bought that yurt and took it for a 8 day trip in south Ms this past March. Mine wasn't set up right enough the first rain storm and we got wet ....2 days later I'd reset stakes and tightened it up ALOT and no rain. The biggest grip I have is the door poles on mine are a tad large so I need to cut 1/2 inch off each side to make it fit right. I also replaced.the wire weenie stakes with 20p nails with a washer on the end.

Enjoyed the video. This is the first one of yours I've seen. As an old former Boy Scout (as in the early '60s) we did a good bit of camping and we had one rule that was stressed and enforced on each of our trips. Leave your campsite better than you found it. If you pack it in, you pack it out. And if you find something left behind by others (trash) pack it out, too. I'm pretty certain that you do this, too. Other things. Campfire safety. If you cook in the morning - NO wood added to the fire once you are done cooking. If you do not need the fire for cooking, there is no need to add wood to the fire. And before you leave be sure the fire is OUT. Once you think the fire is out, put your hand on every inch covered by the fire. If any spot is too hot to touch, the fire is not out. Put it out.

Another great one, Corp. I would be very interested to know if, when you struck camp, did that yurt kept the rain out or did it leak like a sieve? Thank you for your service and your time invested in these informative videos!

I've been watching a lot of your videos and I wish we did more bushcraft skills when I was in the Corps. We mostly just huddled together in the rain in an open field and slept in about an inch of water because we couldn't move off line, importantness of uniformity and all.

It might seem like a small thing, but I have watched a couple of your vids now and one thing you always say I have heard very few times by others. Every time you are tying knots you "dress" the knot. Like I said it might seem like a small thing to some but when Dressing the knot, this keeps the rope from slipping when every loop and tie is in line and uniform. Very nice to finally hear someone doing this.

I come from a part of the world where respect for nature is not as common anymore, so I pay you respect for the devotion to great values sir as well as your respectful approach. When my son watched your list of 5 must do's for constant practical skills improvement and your balanced attitude towards nature, I could see how much he loved it, and in a way different from how his loving father would show him. I salute you. Subscribed and Bell rung.

Actually bought and used this tent this summer. I was able to put it up and take it down by myself and am a few years older than you guys. Used during Pennsic War during a very hot year. The tent did get very hot in the daytime but cooled down nicely in the evening/ night. The large windows let lots of air flow help to cool it, and we did not have any shade. Had some massive storms, held up nicely without leaks. Lots of room inside. The table in the middle was great for glasses, flashlight, cell phone. Hoping it still is good next summer!

No wonder it got too hot in that tent.... The whole jest of chosing a yurt is in it being made of thick cotton material that will actually keep a cooler climate during both day and night. The Walmart thingie being nylon....makes it "just a yurt shaped tent", which is prone to making the tent camper a hammock camper against his will in hot weather ;) But I´m yapping....^^ Thanks for the vid, corporal :) Main mission directive was met: Went out in the field and had FUN! :)

My thoughts exactly. This is a single pole tent that has 6 sides. There's no wall "structure", no roof poles, wrong type of materials; Nowhere close to a yurt.
