Nice camping spot, just keep your eyes peeled for Bigfoot!

My old gf and her aunt ran into a Bigfoot at an old cemetery near Natural Bridge. She's from Redding, Calif and jokes that she had to move to Va to see a Sasquatch.

Caught a whiff of...burnt toast...that just happened to have some dried plants blow on it as it was burning. The spot was beautiful, but that train ...ugg. Still it looked like it was enjoyable. Finally a chance to take all the as much time as you wanted to soak in the surroundings, no pressure to get back on the road. Plus you didn't wake up to sharing your tent with a Water Moccasin who was visiting his/her rattlesnake friend. It's usually a good camping trip if no one gets injured, there are no bears or other predators sniffing around, no snakes bedding down with you or dangerous humans lurking about. Come to think of it, the train really isn't that bad....

Looks like a nice spot. But for $40, there would be peace, quiet & no 3am trains.

It's pronounced Buck-Cannon. 😊 Love Eagle Rock area. Craig's creek. Roaring Run furnace. Great trout fishing on Roarin Run. Traveling on the old abandoned C&O railroad beds, you can see from some of the cliff faces above Craigs Creek where they had cleared "paths" thru the rocks for the Bateaus to to make their way down to the James.

Can't imagine waking up in the middle of the night to a train within feet blasting by. Thx for bringing me along , beautiful scenery indeed.

Pretty place-but the train and party animals would wreck it for me-I'm dealing with idiot neighbors and late night fireworks right now-this world is getting too crowded for me-and too crazy-your videos give me a little peace from the insanity-thank you so much!

I get you that's why I live up in the mountains no close neighbors plenty of room. People are getting more rude and less respectful. Was it Daniel Boone that said elbow room not a city person I'm a country girl. I like my space I can ride my horse grow what I like no noisy or noisy neighbors.🙂👋 n.j.

What a nice, peaceful spot to enjoy your day. Especially enjoyed the sound of the water and the stove set up. Anytime you have the opportunity to capture this beautiful sound of lakes, rivers, streams know that there are people out there who enjoy it. Thanks for sharing.

Indeed WW, you need a bit larger tent I say. And what a beautiful spot along the James! It was the main route to ship goods out and in. Lots of tobacco and other goods shipped out from the plantations. There was Carters Grove, Berkley and Sherley Plantations for a few that depended on the James. A very important route in the Colonial period and later. Carters Grove Plantation was under the umbrella of Colonial Williamsburg but now is private I believe. When I toured it back years ago they had said that the James was a hundred yards further away. There is also a room in the mansion called the refusal room, where Jefferson and Washington were refused when they asked their lady for their hand in marriage. The guide said that flowers in that room never lasted long and soon wilted, compared to the Reston the house. I remember there were three of four huge poplar trees in the back of the mansion, the river side. The mansion was also the site of some movies about the 18th century. Truly a beautiful place and maintained by many slaves as well. Hard to think of those times when others owned other people who were forced to work long hours in poor conditions with no pay. So Thank You WW. A new tent,a food mattress or perhaps a cot and the train? Must have been an eye opened after you figured out where you were. Probably thought the TWILIGHT ZONE at first. Great spot! Love the kayak-I went once to learn how to do it but haven't done it since😒Life always gets in the way!!!!

Hi Cliff, what a beautiful campsite but it really was a shame about the train track's being so close. I think it's awful when people just don't respect nature and also other people's right to enjoy nature in peace and quiet. Absolutely disgusting that those people left their trash in those canoe's, they should be ashamed about what they did. Still it was a lovely site if a little expensive but you did get to be right next to the river which must have been peaceful to go to sleep listening to the water as it went on it's way. All in all look like a nice spot. Can you fish there. You right ground can be hard.air mattress would feel great after hiking and dinner. You would make a good guide but you probably want little peace and quiet most camp grounds get noisy. Probably didn't mention the train because it put some off But if you get used to them the noise don't bother you it's the whistle that startel you in early morning or night. Thanks for taking us along. River looked a bit swift. I don't get why anyone would thumb down this. Lot rude people who just don't like nothing. I never read others comments some people leave rude nasty comments for no reason. I was always told if you can't say nothing nice don't say nothing. Enjoyed it. So far haven't seen a bad video yet. Yes, years ago every KOA camp had train tracks behind it! Lot of time we were too tired to care when train went by! Stayed at some nice ones back then!

My father worked on the trains. He carried a pot that looked a lot like yours. It was called a musket or something like that. He would pack the dinner in it and then warm it up on the coal stove they had in the caboose

back when I was 8, 1970's, Dad took me to an army surplus store to get camping gear for my first trip. I got an army mess kit, oblong, instead of circular. It was either from Vietnam War or Korean War. It was so durable and worked on stoves or in the fire. I can't think of a nickname for it that sounds like musket though

That was the brakes on the train. It was ether going down hill or had to slow down coming into a town or a turn.

Those walmart mess kits are a lot better now that they're stainless steel, they used to make them aluminum and they'd last one use before they'd start getting all gross. I was impressed when I purchased a stainless one.

That's not a small tent. In the old military pup tents, a man had to get out of it to roll over. And where ever you touched it, it would start leaking.

Ah you're in the National Forest, were they still closed for camping? Dispersed camping is free throughout the National Forest though you probably know, I've stayed in some pretty nice US Forest Service campsites in NC/VA, however can be pretty sketchy. One was hosted by some strange cult-like family who lived out of a school bus and was unnervingly nice. My roommate went down 2 years ago on a road trip and camped in the NF in that area you're in for a week. Ended up having two guys on the run from the law camping out almost next to him, in that instance, I wouldn't mind a private campground. Trains reminded me of my Great Allegheny Passage bike trip, every other hour, just ain't no way to escape it.

Get a pair of good hearing protectors as a backup.Hope you get some ad revenue from all that product placement!LOL.Another peaceful video.

I am glad that you are safe, even thou you had to pay more, safety is no. 1. Crazy question, was there a road to get your car next to camp site. Thats good to have the car near buy just for added security. This brings back my good old days, I am happy for you.

You really looked like you enjoyed yourself. I too love trains but have preference for the steam. That rivers flow was really fast, don’t think really good for swimming. Think as you had some sort of security made what you paid worth it. Loved the area. Thank you so much for taking me along really enjoyed it. P,ease take care

I think the train is better then a highway (but I agree they should have told you!)At least you had a private access gate and the river. Like you said there's give and take.

What a lovely place to camp, nice and quiet for some of the time. Not good with the train going thru at 3am though. Spending $40 for a site is a bit rich and you dont get much for it. Here in Australia you would get power and amenities for that. Never mind you experienced camping near a river and was for 1 night. Safe trip back home!

Beautiful camping site, except for the screeching train wheels which can't be helped if there is a curve close by. It's metal wheels rubbing metal rail in the curve of the track. - Randy

$40 is a steep price for sure, but sometimes you don't have much choice, plus you got the privacy you wanted, so not bad, imo
