Campervan For Sale

We're at the crossroads with our campervan Maggie, and in this video we talk the options open to us, and explain why we've decided to sell the van and go for something a bit bigger.

Exciting times. We’ve just collected our new van and we have a tiny toilet and shower room. I know you don’t want a shower room but ours has a central heating vent and skylight and makes a great drying room. I love that wet coats and towels can be dried off in wet weather. I also like that it’s a toilet too. If you’re commissioning a van you could maybe consider some sort of drying cupboard if you don’t like wet coats hanging around. Good luck.

Yeah I agree, I personally don't think you need the shower / fixed toilet, but you do need somewhere to dry a wet coat or two, so might as well double up the usesapce for more than onecthong

Oh, we're really excited about your new van adventure. Can't wait to see the next update. We miss you out and about on your adventures. Hope you get some great weather to help with your garden organizing. Afraid we won't have to worry about any flowers here on PEI for a while yet. I think we had the most snowfall all winter just a few days ago but it will melt soon I hope. We've been lucky with winter with not much snow which is always a bonus. Take care of yourselves and we'll be watching for the next video. All the best!

Exciting times! I’ve always been so impressed how you used Maggie and packed her so well. We moved from a van similar size and layout to Maggie to a Nu Venture Motorhome (used) and the layout is amazing for us. Huge king sized bed or two singles. Table and seats for eating, sofa. A small wardrobe, a good size kitchen and prep area. Loo & shower - although we’ve never used the shower!! But we do use for wet coats (also in Scotland) all at 5.7m long. Some great buys around just now. I wouldn’t rule out a Motorhome, they’re such good value.

I eventually changed my VW T5 double front bench seat to a double swivel folding seat and the difference is amazing, it spins round to face the back of the van, folds flat as a table or just opens up the back and lets more light in and because it folds, it also means its less upright so more comfortable to use in either position. All the best to you both for the future.

Lovely to see you both . We hired a van with a fixed transverse bed, and it was a nightmare climbing over each other to get out to go to the loo in the middle of the night. It was also high up and I needed a step to get up onto the bed before I climbed over himself… there was a draught between the back doors. We have gone for an arrangement of 2 sofas we can flop on which make single beds which can quickly be made into a double if one wishes. Just a thought… and the dinette bit of the van was uncomfortable because it stuck out into the gangway and one could only sit bolt upright on the seats! Looking forward to seeing how it all develops for you. So both you and Ken and Carol are having new vans!!!

Really enjoyed watching your video. We bought out first campervan two years ago when we were in our seventies after many years of caravanning. We actually bought a 6.4 metre with a fixed bed at the rear because we didn't want to have to keep making up the bed every night. For us the important bid was to retain a little bit of luxury and the toilet/shower compartment is an essential part of that. Having a loo and shower handy when its cold and wet outside or when you are not feeling well is a big plus and it is a great drying room for wet coats after taking the dog for a walk. We have toured all around the west highlands of Scotland including the Bealach-na-ba and the size isn't an issue. The only problem sometimes is finding a long enough parking space on supermarket car parks but that is more than compensated for by the extra space inside. Hope you manage to find what you want.

One of my dreams is to design my own campervan. Think you have the right idea re not going down the diy route. I'm still very happy with my Bilbo Nexa but like you Trish, putting the roof up and down is becoming a challenge. I'm also looking at the hig top option. I have to say as I've got older the need for an on board porta potty during the night has been a must have. Also very handy if you're driving distances with no loo or convenient shrub in site. They're very compact and just slip easily under a cupboard. On the whole I like to avoid campsites in preference for a bit of wild camping (naturally being mindful and respectful of the local environment!!). My van has a solar panel which can keep the fridge going for at least 3 days. The longwheel based VW transporter is a doddle to drive and great on the narrowest of roads. The mpg is really good too. I've been looking at Jerba campervans. Pretty sure they build to the customers requirements. Very excited to see how you get on. Good luck

We bought an Auto-sleeper Symbol. High quality, big enough for 2 and at 5.5mtrs not too big (3 belted seats). Full size cooker with loo and shower (essential for us especially during the pandemic). We think it's great and we can use as a second car. Fixed beds in my opinion take up too much space for all the few minutes it takes to make up. For a snooze during the day the 2 singles take seconds to make up - but it is a personal choice. Agree with you about showers/fixed toilet. I've had three campervans with showers and haven't used the shower once. Quite liked the fixed toilet we had but it takes up space that could be better used. In our VW Hillside Caravaggio we have a porta-potti which works fine for us. And totally agree with re size. Our Caravaggio is 4.95m, marvellous for parking, ferries etc, and seems to offer us all the space we need. Not so sure about retractible steps - we've had two that simply stopped working. But as you well know, campervanning is all about compromise. Diesel heaters are ace... Good luck with your search, and for yoiur sale.

I’ve just had another thought! Our first van was a Wellhouse Ford transit custom and we had an electric step. When we collected the van they told us to make sure we always kept the step clean because they can jam if they get dirt in. We always cleaned it after every use but it still got jammed out. We called to ask if we could retract it manually and you can’t so they asked us to take it back but a 120 mile journey with the step out wasn’t really an option and I think it’s illegal. After a few hammer blows we managed to get it back in and never used it again. Maybe speak to David at Wellhouse to see if it happens often or check to see if another manufacturer has a manual option to fall back on. We just use a step that we keep in the van now and with a bigger van it seems fine. Maybe we were just unlucky.

I have the same van as Maggie. Same colour and spec as yours too. I have owned a touring caravan since 2005 and even though I can tow ok, I can’t say it is fun. So I store it on a campsite in Cornwall. This then lost me the ability to do short breaks and so I decided to convert a small van and chose a Nissan NV200. We have enjoyed it for 5 years. My wife and I then wanted something a bit bigger and I showed here a few of your videos of Maggie and so that’s what we eventually upgraded to. It’s not perfect. Only 1 mains socket and 1 dual USB. The NV200 had 4 of each. All I know is that as I'm the main driver, I did not want a motorhome or a high top van. A pop top was always the best option for us

@@MikeandTriciaOotnAboot The Proace auto gearbox is amazing as is the adaptive cruise control. The conversion itself is pretty good, but there are some things I’m not keen on. To get in the cupboards there is a lot of sliding of the seat backwards and forwards. When converting the bed, the front part hits the fridge handle. So you have to make sure the seat is forward enough so it doesn’t hit the handle and the same for converting back to seat. The first top cupboard you come to behind the seat should have been a tambour door for easier access. I get where you are coming from with making the bed up. Our first caravan we had to make the bed up and our second has an island bed. If you get your new van with a transverse bed, it means one of you can get out easier than the other. Where as with the Proace you can get out individually. There is never going to be the perfect campervan. It’s always a compromise. All I know now, I don’t want to go back to a manual like the NV200.

Ie the camper you looked at in your latest vid would be a compromise for you. You will regret it future. Example I am looking at a 48 v system with no gas. You could consider elec induction cooking for example. Most mainstream manufacturers only offer the basic “2 gas hob and sink”. You can get much more if you do more research of your own and don’t rush into it! Just want you to get what you want as you seem really passionate and enthusiastic. A fixed bed at the rear with 4 belted seats at front would be useful for 🐶 and editing!! After all the 🐶 is the most important being!!

With all due respect I think not having a shower and toilet in a bigger van us a dreadful mistake. Firstly why would you want to be tied to expensive sites with shower blocks. CLs, aires, pub sites all great options. Secondly a toilet is so useful when travelling. And thirdly a bespoke van with no bathroom will depreciate like falling girders, there’s just no market for it.

@@MikeandTriciaOotnAboot Haha I did wonder 😊ours can be fixed permanently (which is what we’ve done this trip) can have double or king size too 😎 Wet coats are a pain aren’t they (used to struggle in the caravan) but with this we have coat hooks, (for dry) but for wet weather stuff, we have rails in the shower room & a diesel heater vent which dries them in no time. 👌 Luckily, Skye has been kind to us today so didn’t need them 😊 Have fun with your search. Em 💜

@@vansforthememories rails in the shower room is a great idea for wet coats. Definitely need somewhere for them when in Scotland.
