Campaign of Deceit: The Election of George Santos | CBS Reports

Since the day George Santos announced his bid for a seat in Congress, much of what he’s said about his life and career has proven to be false. So who is George Santos? CBS Reports follows his unlikely path from a basement in Queens to seaside Brazil to Long Island’s wealthiest suburbs. His campaign of deceit delivered him to the loftiest halls of power in Washington and then in December 2023, after a scathing Ethics Committee report, the GOP-led House of Representatives voted 311-114 to expel him from Congress - the sixth member ever to be ejected.

You're not supposed to oust a member of Congress just for lying. That isn't the bar to meet. Not even criminal charges are the appropriate bar, which is why this has only happened like 5 or 6 times before this. If criminal allegations or charges were enough, we'd be seeing Bob Menendez (D) also being kicked out right now since he's facing bribery charges. No, Santos was kicked out for a different reason.

No, the district was redrawn by an independent, 3rd party body because Democrats gerrymandered it so obviously even the courts couldn't abide by it. Also, he didn't win by some insane margin like Republicans used to get in that district since its inception in 1996. And you're thinking he lied for the head-to-head. He lied to be the Republican candidate. Once you seal the (R) or (D) then it's mainly federal politics that wins you the seat.

It is always bothersome to me when a character like Santos is referred to in any way as smart. Predators are not smart, they are instinctive and cunning, in the way they deceive and strike. Even when discovered and confronted they have a well rehearsed escape plan that is usually a bigger lie than the first. After all; the predator will rationalize, I had them before, now I'll just up the anti. Because the victims are honest people the thought that it could be a lie is only a remote consideration. It is what the deceitful count on. Like Trump has done to millions of good Americans.
