Camp Snap Camera First Impressions and Review: A Digital 'Diana' Lomography Bargain?

Ойын-сауық

I made this as the majority of the reviews of this camera appeared to have missed the point somewhat, and talk about lack of control, lack of contrast & noisy images. It's a £50 kids toy - what did they expect??!
Being a toy, it put me in mind of the Diana Lomography cameras, so I have done this review on that basis. Hope you find it helpful.
Full disclosure: I paid for this camera myself as I was interested, and Camp Snap no nothing of this review. All comments my own.

"Digital Lomography" is a perfect way to explain it! I never really got into Lomography before because film is so expensive, but I could definitely see myself carrying a Camp Snap around regularly.

I'm the target buying market. 40, so born in 83, and i have an almost 8 year old. She's great about being careful with my lumix lx3, but she's getting one of these for Christmas specifically so she can take it anywhere without so much worry! And I do a lot of my own photography on m43, so some quick edits for her stuff is already part of the routine.

How do you get on with M43? I bought an OM-D a few years ago having owned a Nikon D50 for yonks and having learn on an OM-10 (so liked the aesthetic) - I couldn't get on with it at all, but have recently realised, after snagging a D5500, that it is the difference between CCD and CMOS that I don't like: CMOS is too clinical for my tastes, so I am actually thinking about getting the D50 serviced and just accepting that 6mp is 'enough' for most things...

@@iamaparanoidandroid1 mostly really liking it. The form factor and size is obviously nice and I'm using an Olympus em10 iv. I'm finding noise handling good enough and actually find the way Olympus handles it to be generally nice. Lots of tiny, cheap lenses out there as well as the clinically precise ones. I have a number of the manual lenses from the new Chinese manufacturers and enjoy that a lot. Those have more clinical quirks. But I find that either zone focusing or back button autofocus for a similar approach help keep things less perfect and I also use black mist style filters on most of my lenses in general. Hiking, I use my 30mm macro and the 40-150 zoom and they have a lot of character for pretty precise lenses. But with the filters on, I keep it subtle with those, like 1/8 strength to just add a little. The main downsides are the crop factor if you shoot really wide and the current lack of camera body variety. I'd love to see the return of the Pen line!

Thanks for sharing! A teardown would be great, I couldn't find anyone who has done a teardown! Really curious to see inside.

Hey, thanks - I did reply, but it seems to have disappeared! That would be cool - for clarity for anyone reading the comments, the review above was done without Camp Snap knowing about it, on a camera I bought for myself (£50 + £15 Shipping =~$75ish). Thinking about the original use case, and something that I thought: It would be great if the camera had a timer, even if it was a slightly basic mechanical one (where the button for the flash would be on a disposable). That way kids could have the fun of resting it on a rock to get themselves in the photo only to find that they cut everyone's heads off when they get the photos back! Would also be cool if there was a sound option between the Cheesy Shutter noise and silent (just a click or small beep?) Great concept! I personally think you could have a cult classic on your hands, especially with the trend for VHS look and early 2000s Digicams...

I had the same issue last night my finger was in 80 percent of the shots… I do like how wide of an angle it is. Gonna take mine to my wedding this Sunday
