2. HOW TO GET TO CAMERON HIGHLANDS
So, how do we get to Cameron Highlands from Kuala Lumpur? The only access to the highlands is by road. It takes roughly about 3.5 - 4 hours drive from KL. There are basically 3 ways of getting there; (a) by bus, (b) booking a tour or (c) driving yourself.
(a) Taking a Bus
- From TBS, (Terminal Bersepadu Selatan) in Kuala Lumpur to Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands.
- One-way tickets cost about RM 35
- If you book online through the RedBus website (www.redbus.my), there’s even an option to pick your seats and insurance coverage. (We're not sponsored but Redbus is the one that we frequently use for our travels)
(b) Booking a tour
- Hassle-free
- Most tour packages include transportation, a full-day itinerary, and an English-speaking tour guide. You can also approach your hotels and tourist information centers for more information.
(c) Driving
- There are 2 main routes to get there from the North-South Expressway.
- Option 1: by taking the Tapah Exit 132/Route 59. It is a shorter route hence faster but the road is very windy and narrow.
- Option 2: by taking the Simpang Pulai Exit 137/Route 185 (which is the route that we took). It is a slightly longer route, but the road is much straighter and more comfortable to drive on. Highly recommend especially if you have motion sickness. (30 minutes longer)
3. WHERE TO STAY IN CAMERON HIGHLANDS
There are 2 main areas in Cameron Highlands that the majority of the hotels are located; Tanah Rata and Brinchang.
➡️Where we stayed:
💥Century Pines Resort
goo.gl/maps/uZnGAT8hgTJC7ySr6
- Tanah Rata:
Main administrative town, there are many shops, banks, tour agents, eateries and a bus terminal, which is where the buses from KL would stop. It is more commercialized here compared to Brinchang.
- Brinchang:
Second largest town after Tanah Rata. You’ll find the main center of Brinchang more densely developed compared to Tanah Rata with many apartments, shophouses and public buildings clustered closely together. There’s also the other side of Brinchang that’s closer to farms, tourist attractions, and nature.
Overall, there is a wide range of accommodations available in Cameron Highlands; you can find anything from budget homestays to mid-range and luxury hotels with a golf course attached to it. Some places even offer unique experiences like colonial-era bungalows, mini chalets, and a farm stay.
4. CAMERON HIGHLANDS TRAVEL TIPS:
#1 The Weather/Seasons
- very windy and cold especially morning and night. We do suggest bringing along a jacket.
- sunny at noon, do apply sunscreen
#2 Traffic Jams & Peak Periods
- Can get crowded and traffic jams are very common, especially during weekends, school holidays and festive seasons.
#3 Stay Duration
A day trip would be enough to cover the main attractions, whereas at least staying a night or two is preferred for a more relaxed trip.

You don't know how much I loveee Cameron Highlands! I'm a Malaysian (from Kelantan) but oh I want to live there so bad just for the cool temperature! It's always hot anywhere else in Malaysia like 27°C+ but in Cameron it gets around 15°C it's just such a perfect weather 😭❤️ when I was visiting Cameron I just discovered that my mood depends a lot on the temperature, I felt much better and blessed 😌✨ after the pandemic I'd definitely ask my mum to visit again hehe 😗✌🏻
Ooo a video full of beautiful scenery!
Very helpful tips for travelers! Love how you guys included so much info and options! 👏
I remember well the trip from my home in Kluang to Slim School Cameron Highlands. By rail to Kuala Lumpur - having a meal from the galley on the railway carriages (this was 1963) this was my introduction to Malay cooking (I am salivating at the thought of it). We would stop overnight in KL and continue the following morning to Tapa Road Station (and time for another Nasi Goreng on the way) From there we would take a local bus company coach up a very narrow and winding old road through Tanah Rahta (spelling?) and on to the school. Slim School closed about a year later - I consider myself very fortunate to have attended this wonderful little school in such a beautiful, wild area. We would frequently walk or run to the Padang at Tanah Rahta along a lovely jungle path and then into the town - then only just about the size of a village - we loved it. The local people were overwhelmingly friendly and protective of us. I can remember, often crossing paths with Aboriginal peoples making their way through the jungle, often they would sit and talk (we could not understand a single word but their smiles told us we had nothing to fear from these wonderful people - including the ones who had heads attached around their waist! They always had some fruit and/or meat they would insist on sharing with us. I did once, meet one who spoke some English as he had fought alongside the British Army at some time in his, no doubt fascinating past) We would sometimes continue on the path down through the Boh tea estates and then back. Marvellous adventure for a young British child. There is little of this film I recognize but I enjoyed it nevertheless - many thanks.
Redbus and even Tourism Malaysia should sponsored you guys :) this is like a Holiday Travel video from CNN.

@@PuriandSue Guys are you a professional videographer? If not I suggest you become one.
Knowing Cameron highlands very well for 4 years or so, think it’s a shame that the roads are not compatible for the huge amounts of traffic going up to Cameron highlands. The amount of over building in only 4 years is very alarming in Tana Rata and Brinchang. I have noted now coming up form Simpang Pulai road up to Cameron highlands. There’s a huge cut out of jungle , plastic metropolis of greenhouses and they just keep digging and digging. What can you do to protect the environment in Cameron highlands’c These need to be addressed. Otherwise Cameron highlands is just going to be from its amazing looks from years gone bye. As today a dire mess!.
This place is just next level beautiful. Your editing and camera work just keeps getting better and better! Perfect guide!

Like we mentioned, this sounds like the perfect place to recharge. Those tours sound very convenient too. We've been doing more of those lately. On man, those chalets look so cute. Would like to stay in one of those. I would definitively rent a Jeep when I visit. Hahaha Great video and editing guys.

To animal lovers/rescuers here. I'm writing here to raise awareness that there are too many stray dogs and puppies along The Tapah road up to Cameron highland nowadays. Just today I avoided 2 puppies and God knows how many more got killed on the very narrow road. If you are capable, please help them, which at the same time can increase road safety.
Great content and sharing.
