Ali, I really enjoyed it and it was well organised. The only change I would suggest is more seating. There were plenty of empty space outside where food stalls were and a substantial part of the hall was unused (area behind the kids bungee rope). The organisers could have charged an extra 50p per ticket and people would have paid it and cover the extra costs and logistics of putting the extra chairs and tables in. Many Muslims are not comfortable eating standing up and especially on a warm day. Apart from that I think it was perfect. Food prices were reasonable (expensive but not a rip-off), the lines were not too long and the stalls did not run out of food. Congratulations to Bilal and the rest of the organisers

Ok I’m conflicted about the Halal Food Festival. We choose to go the Sunday, the 3pm to 7pm slot. Got one of the cheapest tickets (2 for £22 inc fee). What you weren’t told about in advance, was the eye watering £17.95 parking charge per day! They also had it away at the end of NEC so couldn’t walk or bus, no choice but to pay it. We didn’t get the goody bag, as they seemed to run out. Don’t know, no organisers around to ask. Majority of the food stalls outside, had a wait around 20 min queue. Pitmister and Malik Butchers (famous expensive sandwich sold out by 5pm) was ridiculous, didn’t even bother, Looking at 45 mins. Even skipping these two, the time you got your food and ate, you only got to try out a handful of food stalls. Further each meal was around £10. Then at 6.30pm there was an announcement, to get out and by which point Businesses were packing up. The Saturday was so hot. There was no /limited shaded areas and no water was being provided. It’s ok for PR Pass as they get the line skip and get behind the scenes. It would have been better, if the food stalls did small tasting plates for £5 ish. This allowing better variety. The Circus at the NEC was £5 for parking, so how are we getting bumped. I refused to wait in queues, that I could drive to at a later date and get. It would have been nice to have more variety from across the UK. I don’t think there was any businesses from Scotland or Wales. I don’t feel like there was any value and feel kinda robbed. I’m conflicted because I want to support events like this and small/ Muslim business. However the pricing/ value and experience, like this make it difficult. I enjoyed that everyone was sitting eating together and it opened conversations. Reminded me of the community feeling so that element I enjoyed immensely.

Bro this is all a big money making machine, what is worse is that people fall for it, paying 10 quid on average for each stall, madness

I totally agree with you, I went to the Leicester halal food festival and thought the price was extortionate even without the parking charge , hence why I never went to the Birmingham festival , you have Pay for a ticket around £12.50 and receive no goodie bag, then have to wait up to an hour for food, with vendors ripping you off for a sandwich/hotdog, Personally they should reduce the ticket fee to £5 for the whole day instead of slots.

I don’t regret going, it’s an experience. I will always support smaller business, especially Muslim business. Heyman just keeps talking about what an amazing event it is… ok calm down. It was nice they had different vendors inside and a stage etc. I just feel that there was no value and other better events. I just don’t understand how no-halal events pull it off without the extortionate prices.

@@user-pq1jr1rt2b they pull it off because their audience and clientelle understand value for money. In most cases Asian people will pay higher prices for food and drink because that is usually their only source of entertainment outside of family,

Depends on which day you go; Saturday was a lot busier and queues (from what i was told) were about 30 minutes on average, on Sunday it wasn’t as busy and the “regular” shop queues were roughly 5-15 minute waits as opposed to the more popular joints such as Pitmaster, Malik Butchers etc. those were anywhere from 30-45 minute waits…from what I gathered, the shops with the most clout garner the longest queues and you’ll definitely be waiting more than 30 minutes for those

I watched the video and I have to disagree with Ali on something. The pricing for the event allows access in, which is understandable BUT, the vendors inflated prices and reduced portions. It was a money making festival, not a Halal festival! The kids activities and shopping was good.
