Hello everyone and welcome back to another Cambridge research vlog!
I wanted to share what typical days in the lab are like for me as a research assistant at the University of Cambridge, but this time I tried to narrate my experiment process to give you a better insight to what it is I'm actually doing, I hope you enjoy and thank you so much for stopping by!

About me:
Hello!! My name's Vy and I make vlogs and chit chat videos about pursuing an education / career in biomedical research.
I'm currently working as a research assistant in Cambridge and studied biomedical science for my undergrad and postgrad in the UK.
This channel is also a place for me to document the little joys in my every day life, travel adventures and all in all, just memories I'd want to look back on.

2nd to be here~ awesome video 😁 Errr... wanted to know are you a native of UK? If not, what qualifications or exams did you give to get accepted at imperial as an international student? Was there any kind of form at first? I just started 1st year but I want to be informed for msc so that there is no confusion in the final year. ☺

thank youu!! 😊😊 I'm an international student and I did A-Levels and then a BSc in Medical Biosciences at Imperial. The application process is similar for all but internationals need a student visa (previously known as Tier 4 visa).

Do you follow instructions given by a higher up person? And if so, are those instructions step by step or simple like "run PCR" and then you have to perform it the way you would like too?

yes I have a supervisor which has a project I am helping out with. I got some training in the first few weeks to months for a range of techniques. after awhile I am told what needs to be done and I run the experiment in my own schedule, then compile and summarise the results for my supervisor.

Vy você é assistente de pesquisa, correto? Para qual a linha de pesquisa você está preparando essas bactérias, fazendo essas extrações? Faz um vídeo falando mais sobre como funciona o seu trabalho como assistente...se for possível, claro!

I can only talk briefly about my project because of confidentiality 😅 but the bacteria are a result of recombineering, they should've have lost an antibiotic resistance gene so I am confirming if the bacteria transformation has worked through antibiotic selection.
