Cambodian styled caramelized braised pork belly (Kaw Sach Chrouk)

Hello everyone!!! My name is Jannie and I am a self-taught cook. I’ve mostly learned from watching my mother and grandmother in the kitchen while growing up. I never knew that my passion for food and cooking ran so deep until I auditioned and competed on season 9 of MasterChef. It was from the show that the nickname, “Vegas Vixen”, was born. My friends have joked around calling me the “Vegas Vixen in The Kitchen” and the nickname stuck. I hope you like my take on well-known recipes as well as the ones I’ve created myself.

    We usually braise it for over an hour at least on low heat so the sauce is reduced and thickens and the pork becomes more tender unless you are cooking it in a pressure cooker. A bit of sliced ginger, a star anise (the Star shape Spice) and some sliced bamboo shoots (the ones in water) goes well with it too

    Love your recipe! I’ve never made Khar using coconut water before. Is the coconut flavor distinctive or subtle?

  • @JannieLam

    @JannieLam

    My grandma and mom usually use water, one of my girlfriends used coconut water so I adopted that. I think it just helps in the sweetness aspect but it is very subtle.

    Jennifer Sherrick yes if you like, but maybe use less sugar then because the soda is sweeter than the coconut water. Thank you so much for watching! Lmk how it turns out 🤗
