    I’m not sure if you’re aware so forgive me if you do. But hunters in Utah agreed to let younger bulls live in order to let them mature further. Good for the population and makes for larger trophies for the hunters.

    ThePopeOfDope well sure, but in general the purpose is to let the animal pass on their genes before killing them. I praised him for respecting this rule, most people take any lucky shot they can get.

    @@ThePopeOfAllDope actually it works against the natural selection and ruins the quality of animal population. Alpha male is usually the biggest bull with top genetics. So by taking him out you let the inferior bulls to mate the cows which results in lower quality calves. Doing it year after year it is possible to make whole population degrading. While younger bulls usually taste better. But every hunter wants to pet his fkin ego and trying to get the biggest animal.

    Brother, I've been listening to you and Joe on his podcast the last couple of days and I'm more than inspired!! I'll be 43 this year and have battled addiction on all levels. I'm also a felon so rifle hunting is out of the picture. I picked up a PSE stinger X five years ago and was hooked. I've drawn tags here in Wyoming but have never gone. I got lost in my addiction about 4 years ago and lost everything again... Bow included, but I recently surpassed 3 years of sobriety and have also quit smoking 4 months ago. I've started to build a gym in my garage and workout with my son... I want to live a healthier lifestyle and want to be able to trek up the mountain and be able to pack an elk out if I'm lucky enough to fill a tag. I won't be in shape for it this year, and I won't have my bow out of layaway until later this year, but next September I'm hammering the Bighorns. You've been a major inspiration and I want to thank you!!! I'm going to be spending the next year conditioning for the hunt. Man, thank you and Joe Rogan for the inspiration!!! The fire has been lit under my ass!!! Much appreciated!!!

Kudos to you if you have mastered your art - that type of dedication and skill is noteworthy. But if you don't post the video, then you are just another blowhard on the internet, talking shit about a true pro for no other reason than to be an asshole. I'm a hunter from the UK and I never really understood the bow hunting ethics, I shoot centre fire rifle and hunt deer in woodland and open moorland. But watching this video and seeing the one with nature, the appreciation for the animal and wildlife and most of all the skill and professionalism you showed has changed my mind. Hunting is hunting and having respect for the environment and animals is what it's all about. Congratulations on the bull of a lifetime. That's meat well earned.

    This is a strange experience for me to watch. I'm not a hunter but I'm not against it, providing it's not wasted. I enjoyed your philosophy regarding mercifully killing. I remember ringing my first birds neck and my Dad saying you don't want to hurt it, so you need to make sure you kill it. Same thing I guess. Bow hunting is illegal in the UK, not sure it is any less lethal watching this. Thanks for sharing and educating me. All the best.

    I would not comment except to say. There is nothing more primal than the feeling you get when you come to full draw on a animal. Good luck sir😊

    @@Rainersherwood . I agree with everything you say except the first sentence. We are safer here because of those laws and so is the wildlife. Far too many idiots here to have people running around wounding but not killing what they would see as 'sport'. Not enough knowledge in regard to butchering the meat so it would't be eaten. My concern generally would be losing sight of an animal after it's hit and leaving it to die slowly. The guys in this video obviously know what they're doing but until I saw the end result I was thinking they needed a dog with them just to be sure. Glad it ended well.

    @@Rainersherwood Totally agree. You can hunt deer, just not with a bow. The justification is that they are less lethal!?! That is not what this video shows. The way I see it is a poorly prepared hunter could just as likely make a poor shot with a rifle as they could with a bow. I love archery and maybe I'll go over to the Scandinavian mainland to explore the idea of elk hunting. Unfortunately it will be a long while as all bow hunting is illegal in the UK, so will have to get some more basic experience abroad first. All the best.

    @@martintaylor4620 I think you touch on a significant point. Most people in the UK don't even realise you can hunt here. The hunting community has been demonised, and as a result the meat goes to waste. Growing up in a rural area, game was always available but as time went by hunters couldn't give it away. As a result we have lost a lot of basic skills. I have a kid and one on the way, my wife doesn't want chickens to breed and slaughter. I want my children to respect where their meat comes from just as much as their fruit and vegetables. Meanwhile other people are eating stuff they have no idea if it's safe or ethical.

    I love how you showed an accurate interpretation of the days, hours, and work it took for Cam to track and harvest the bull. I prefer it as opposed to the videos where it seems as if they walked out to the stand, sat there for a bit, and harvested the animal. It takes time, it takes determination, and you did a good job representing that with this video.

  • @MountainMan_NZ

    @MountainMan_NZ

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@toneloc747 Hi Tony, thanks for your comment. As a meat eater I would disagree that the statement is an Oxy moron. The fact is that we choose to hunt for our lean, clean, 100% organic protein which has lived a free and wild life in remote wilderness and has been killed under stringent game management systems. There is nothing more ethical to a hunt than after having worked your butt off and in Cam's case taken the animal with a bow. This, in my view is a far more ethical and fair method of harvesting meat than the alternative of farm fed, mass produced, and mass butchered animals that are only ever destined for the supermarket shelf where 99% of humans don't understand, appreciate or even think about where their meat comes from. There is no story or connection with food that has been bought off a shelf... But, as proud hunters we simply choose to maintain that connection to the land and animals by hunting for our own food so thay we can continue to feed our families while sharing stories about adventure, geography, animal behaviour, conservation etc etc, at the dinner table. What is not ethical about that? Cheers, Jamie from New Zealand

    tadhg cooper if you knew anything about bowhunting what so ever, then you might be able to have an intelligent conversation. Since you are either ignorant or ill informed as to the lethality of a well placed arrow, allow me to shed some light. The blades on the heads we use are as sharp as razors. They actually cause very little trauma to the animal. What they do is slice a nice clean opening in a blood carrying vital organ. Quite often the animal just knows that something happens and it startled them but have no idea what it was. Often they will flee because that's what prey animals do when they sense something. They will then stop to assess what happened. This is just seconds and all the while the blood is leaving the body. They get lightheaded and stumble and it's over. Not much pain at all. That animal was dead in less than 2 minutes and maybe 1. It felt very little pain. We bowhunters truly care about the animals we hunt and do the best we cans to insure a humane death. It doesn't always go as planned and we do our best to prevent that. Thank you if you read this. I hope you have a little better understanding now. Sorry for you if you still don't get it.

    I saw the GQ-breakdown-interview with Cam and thought I might wanna actually see him hunt. This video seemd like a good choice and it was. I really like how much he drinks in the whole experience, his surroundings, the wilds. Plus, he definitely stayed true to his word and took the opportunity to make the kill as quick as possible. But this also made it clear to me that I don't have the stomach for hunting. Not unless I have to do it to survive that is. Seeing the life drain from a body is just too heavy for me, if I have to fight the thought that I didn't have to let that arrow go (assuming I would be trained enough to do it properly etc.). Still, impressively done, and beautifully shot, both with the bow and with the camera!
