Taking coaches out of it, Cam isn't exactly speaking the full truth here. For one he announced he was transferring before Florida even played Oklahoma so that was well before Tebow said he was coming back. Second he pretty heavily downplayed the trouble he had at Florida. There was no mention of the multiple academic cheating issues that were getting harder for the team to cover up. He also would have played at exactly the same time had he just stayed at Florida. With having to sit out in '09 at Blinn he would have been the starter at UF in '10 just like he was at Auburn. Hard to argue with the outcome since that 2010 year was legendary.

Urban didn't bury Cam Newton. Cam Newton buried himself. He admits how immature he was during his time at UF - remember he was kicked off the team for stealing from a teammate. Urban made it clear from his first day at UF that he wanted his QB to be the leader of the team. Leadership requires maturity and discipline; that's why Chris Leak and Tebow were the starting QB's under him. Cam didn't get to that point until after his JUCO days and he admits it in this interview.

But, losing Cam ended the potential Alabama type dynasty for Florida. Tebow was definitely a great leader for that team. But, anyone with 20/20 vision could see that Cam should be the starter by his sophomore year. Unfortunately Tebow’s stranglehold on the UF fans was never going to allow Cam to beat him out. And Urban was at the front of the line. He was Tebow’s #1 groupie!

I have gained so much respect for Cam Newton since he has started doing his podcast and seeing this one, and I have a totally different perspective about him today. He was given a raw deal with the "all negative, all the time" national attention between leaving Florida, going to Blinn, to then enrolling and playing at Auburn. Even with an open mind and admiring his unbelievable athletic ability, I still had an opinion that was somewhat negative due to the constant "talk" about the how, what and why of his journey. There was nothing in anything he ever has done that I can point to in order to vilify him, yet I had those thoughts and gained them from the national media. AND the thing that sucks the most is that I fell for it even though I know for a fact, often people who are not nice at all, have great reputations and people who are the nicest and most caring people you can find have horrible things said about them in the media.
