Calypso Summer 1960-61 Part 1
In the summer of 1960-1 a team of cricketers from the West Indies visited Australia. They came as underdogs but left as the most loved sporting team to ever visit Australia. The series became known as the 'Greatest Test Series Ever Played' and included the first ever tied test.

I am pleased to see 1st tie match between Australia and West Indies with comments of great cricketers of that match.
Incredible game!!! Dream to watch for any cricket lover. 2 legend captains Warrell and Benaud and so many legend players game has ever seen Sobers, Hall, Grout....Above all the spirit from both sides you will hardly see now a days.....I wish cricket comes back in the same format now

The umpires still shafted West Indies though and they did not complain.
Wesley, thanks for rekindling this attitude-forming boyhood memory when everything was possible. I remember in great detail the commentary on my static-invaded little radio on the Corentyne how sweet the taste of achievement was. May those attitudes return to our cricket and way of life!
Just tongue tied! No ways to describe such an event. The first ever tied Test! Thanks for the documentary!

Thanks for this 3-part documentary. They brought back memories when I was a teenager living in Guyana.
Thanks Chris - i have this on video and couldn’t watch it even though it is really good. A great watch with play rained out. Cheers

You're welcome Ricky, glad you like it.
Wow! It is fantastic to put faces to names I've heard from boyhood.
Thanks for the memories. Remember, as kid, my grandfather and great uncle on the porch in rocking chairs raving and arguing about this match.

You're welcome, paul murray. Glad it brought back some nostalgic memories! :-)
Good Lord! What a final over.
Wish the WI team had Roy Gilchrist and Collie Smith who died young
That Trevor Bailey innings sounding like a Kraigg Brathwaite masterpiece 🤣🤣
1:47 I still regard it as the greatest test match ever played. The second greatest would be the Adelaide test of that same summer, where the 9th wicket partnership held fort for 2 hours to garner a draw.
I heard the story that Gary Sobers hit the first ball from Alan Davidson in the Sydney Test for six. was that true ?
These were west indes juring the glory days guys who play for pride
Thanks Chris !! Do you have more docos covering the 60s ... the Simpsons, the Lawrys, the McKenzies, the Hawkes .....
Better quality please!!!
Only 8 wickets were fallen...How is it a tie?

Anyone who is not white is colored, thus non whites. That term is now considered politically incorrect. I personally like African American or Afro Caribbean.

You forgot the Age of and Era in which these Cricketers grew up. Back in those days West Indians called themselves Coloured, because we are of mixed races. Furthermore people from the African Continent laugh when they hear the Term, "African American" or "Afro Caribbean." As far as they are concerned, the Black people of America and the Caribbean ceased to be "African" when they were taken from the Continent during Slavery. I learnt that straight from the horses' mouths. You should just appreciate these men for who they are and the experiences that thet had, for they are now are all in their late 80s. Do not rewrite their experiences.
