Thank you for sharing your beautiful experiences with us. I am amazed that you went form a child who lost her ability to speak, to being a woman who shared her voice with the world. Much love and respect to Calypso Rose

Calypso was considered to be unhealthy for young minds so children were discouraged from singing them. These are the liner notes from Mighty Sparrow Vol.4 ICE Records. Calypso Rose started singing around 1963. She said Sparrow (The Mighty Sparrow) was her mentor. This is from the documentary Calypso Dreams (2004). Sparrow recorded her first two (2) hits under his label National Recording in 1963. I believe one of the songs was "My Kinda Guy" (1963). In the mid 1960s'- 1967 to be exact is when she did "Fire Fire" & "A Man Is A Man" also on Sparrow's label National Recording music supplied by the Society Playboys. She had albums like Sexy Hot Pants (1972), Calypso Queen of The World (1971) from the early 1970s'. She won the Road March in 1977 with "Tempo" & again the Road March & Calypso Crown in 1978 with "Come Leh We Jam". It is because of her contribution to the art form, that Denyse Plummer, Denise Belfon, Destra Garcia, even Fay Ann Lyons- Blue Boy/Super Blue's daughter have a platform to work from. Calypso Rose, I salute you my dear!!!!!

Its amazing, how she recollects her early years growing up. The abuse she took while in school in Trinidad. Do you all know, this woman has a degree in law similar to that of the late President Sir Ellis Clarke (1917-2010)? 😎
