I’ll never forget in one of his books, there was a strip where Calvin didn’t want to stop playing but had to go to bed and Hobbes said “we can just play in our dreams!” and then caption underneath talked about how Bill had a pet that he loved that died, but it’s okay, since they can always meet up in dreams. That one always gets me.

Aww this was perfect. Calvin and Hobbes was my favorite childhood comic. I'd read it all the time, even though many of the concepts and big words flew over my head back then. I picked it up recently, wanting to return to my childhood for comfort, after the loss of a dear family member. Calvin and Hobbes bring back a lot of good memories and it's so cool to re-read and understand the stories and concepts on a deeper level.

After all, Mr. Watterson did show interest in animating them. He just feared that by doing so he would open the door to him loosing control of his art.

I'm only 22, but Calvin and Hobbes is straight up one of my favorite things to ever be created. I had a fairly messed up childhood, but no matter how bad things got, I always had the anthology books for Calvin and hobbes. I read so many of them over and over again. No matter how bad things got, they were always my escape. And thanks to how Bill Watterson has handled the rights to C+H, it's going to stay pure. Untouched by modern sensibilities, and politics, and opinions. It will forever stand as a bastion of joy, creativity, and pure, unadulterated wonder for the world. A bastion I legitimately don't think I'll ever be able to express my thankfulness for its very existence to a degree its worthy of.
