Calum’s Road

Музыка

A beautiful Strathspey written by Donald Shaw of Capercaillie as a tribute to Calum MacLeod, an islander from Raasay, north of Skye who spent ten years from 1964 to 1974 building a road single handed with a pick a shovel and Wheelbarrow from his croft at Arnish to the main road at Brochel Castle, a distance of one and three quarter miles, after the local council refused to do so for him. Several year later the Council tarmaced his road, but by this time Calum and his wife were the last inhabitants of Arnish!

Fine version of a great tune, John! Nice to add the bass uke. I tried it myself on mandolin and Thuringian Waldzither one year ago.

Thanks Frithjof, yes I love the tune and it’s going straight into the next music session. I’m really liking what the Uke bass can add, I’ve only had it for about 10 months so still learning. 👍

Very nice. Interesting that you use a pick with the Ukulele Bass.

Thank you, glad you like it. I haven’t had the Uke bass long so still getting use to it. I have recorded a couple of videos using my fingers, but I haven’t got used to the strings enough yet to get the sound I wanted on this one. I will get there 👍😀
