Caltrain cabride San Jose - San Francisco 129 Local Cabcar 4013 9/06/22
Finally got an cabcar ride on 4013, with its awesome horn! This horn on 4013 really sounds beautiful, and nice. But the unfortunate thing was that the temperature was really high and hot on this day. Over 110 degrees. Due to that, we had level 2 heat restrictions meaning reduced speed to 50 mph the whole entire way. Delayed us by 1 hour and 30 minutes, and most of the trains this day were canceled. But, was worth it. PLEASE like and subscribe if you haven't yet, and/or if you enjoyed the video!!

4013 is a really interesting Cab Car. It usually only runs mid-set (though apparently, just recently, it was leading again), and it got reactivated extremely suddenly, and people didn't even realize it was back until it was already running again and people began to notice it.

It’s because every time cabcar 4013 is leading, it has bad, major PTC issues. 4013 would make the consist stall every time there’s an issue.

It's actually nice to see local service; sometimes the express trains blur together and I sometimes have to rewatch them to make certain I'm remembering the correct train number?

I don’t really know any official info on that yet, Caltrain is really pushing themselves to get the emu into revenue service next September or so. Depending on how many of those will be delivered to us in how quick, the f40s will retire slowly. But if I gotta say honestly, the emus won’t make it to next year.

Caltrain is retaining some diesels for San Jose-Gilroy service, though I’m not sure which diesels they’d be, if they’d be F40s or MP36s or a mix of both.

@@ChrisJones-gx7fc two things, what they’re planning to retain are 920-928. BOISE F40PH-3Cs and MPI MP36PH-4Cs. All 1985 EMD F40s are going gone. But recently they started talking about not even retaining those diesels they were planning to from while back

@@BayAreaTrackside I wonder if any of the 1985 F40s could be saved for museums. Two of the former Coaster F40PHs were saved for SoCal rail museums, so it wouldn’t be totally out of the question that one of Caltrain’s could be saved for a Bay Area rail museum, with Niles Canyon and WRM being two potential new homes. Just takes fundraising and getting it moved there, and having the space for it.
What is the name of the Interlocking north of the San Jose station? Is that Julian or Alameda?

@@BayAreaTrackside did they change the name? And old track chart said Julian. I know they added “Shark”. All others seem to be the same. Then there is Alameda, then shark, then Stockton, then Coast and then Dela Cruz.
