Call Changes at St Mary the Virgin, Nottingham

Фильм және анимация

Some call changes on the twelve bells at St. Mary's in Nottingham. These bells have a nice, mellow sound. They were made in 1935 by Gillett and Johnston, with two more added in 1980 by Eijsbouts. There's also an older bell from 1595 by Henry Oldfield. While the bells sound good together, it's hard to tell them apart when ringing.

Went on a tower maintenance course here when the ringing was still suspended. Nice to see they're back ringing again. I need to visit one day.

What a nice ring, and is that the clock mechanism I could see, and do you know if it strikes just the hour or the quarters too?

It is a quarter striking clock which I believe strikes the ting tang quarters. Although I could be wrong on that.

@@DylanSmith_15 Might you record them next time you're in Nottingham?

There are no clock chimes at SMV Nottingham (or indeed any church in the city center), though there used to be prior to these bells being installed in 1935. The clock mechanism only controls the clock faces on the outside of the tower - no bells are attached.

@@10walke I guess the Council House does the Quarter Chiming. That is odd for such a large city like Nottingham
