California Native Plant Haul November 2023

Let’s go to the California native plant nursery and buy some new plants to add to my central Sierra foothills native plant garden!
I visit one of my favorite places- Intermountain Nursery in Prather California, and pick up a few (or maybe 25) new plants for fall 2013 planting.
Big new additions include golden currant, button bush, and western azalea. Sages include more hummingbird sage, Dara’s choice sage, white sage, and new additions purple sage varieties including point Sal and Figueroa. Penstemons including more Penstemon gmr white and new to the garden Penstemon spectabilis, Penstemon Catherine de La mare, and Penstemon eatonii. Also adding some more narrow leaf milkweed, and two yarrow selections including common yarrow and red velvet yarrow. The wildcards from this round include western columbine and rosy pussy toes.
It’s important to try to get your new native plants in California in fall to maximize the time that they can benefit from the rainy season to get well established before their first summer. This year I’m getting a pretty good head start!

9a but I think it behaves more like 9b- I’ve almost never seen it below 30. Would have said it’s really dry in the summer but looking at the project you’re taking on that might be an inconsiderate statement!
