I am sure this is the G3 (Goodale) hunt. It is the most sought-after tag in California for mule deer. The bucks have migrated out of Yosemite Park and are on the slopes about Hwy 395 near Bishop. He gave it away when he said Division Creek Road. The hunt takes in December and runs for 2 weeks. The number of tags now is 25 or so. Ten percent go to random individuals, the others have max points.

Enjoyed the film and I might have missed it in the video, but this appears to be the good dale hunt. Being a California resident and hunter, this ultra premium tag just shows how a 20 year California tag is equivalent to a 2-4 year Wyoming or Colorado tag. Harvested a great deer for California but i won’t be saving my points for 25 years with point creep to have a shot at the G3 type tags.

Very very true. As a long time Eastern Sierra hunter and local, I will not be able to hunt with my sons in area I grew up hunting. California Fish and Wildlife game management is a joke because the people in charge are all urban minded non hunters. Their ultimate goal is to get rid of hunters as a management tool. They would rather the deer get hit by a truck or die of starvation than to admit hunting is important. I stopped buying a hunting license in CA and now strictly hunt out of state. Goodale hunt is not what it used to be either. In fact, IMO it is probably the most overrated zone in CA. A lot of 3 point 24” bucks that all.

Good job, nice buck, between the lack of deer and snow in the late season you just rarely see big bucks here anymore, the 20+ year premium tags are not so premium anymore, but this hunt is always exciting and huge expectations, thats what makes it a blast.

I gotta say it: The shots on that antelope were not adeal. First shot appeared to be a clean miss (possible pass-through but poorly placed??). The 2nd shot was rushed and looked to be straight up the back-end (never a good idea for obvious reasons). Though the 3rd shot wasn't shown, when he walked up on his downed goat, it was still alive which suggests a decision was made from a distance NOT to finish him off before walking down to the buck. Rather, let him 'think about it' and linger with hopes he would pass before arrival (?). Why not send another shot after running one up his azz when he was down? C'mon! Really nice mule deer. Congratulations! I've spent some time in that country and it's GORGEOUS! I drew an X3b tag along with my 15 yo daughter for 2024 and hope to come home with something AT MINIMUM that decent or we eat a 'tag sendos.' Useless fun fact of the day: It's never good to shoot an animal up the azz LOL!

Those specific muleys are not Rocky Mountain muleys typical of NW California, they are Inyo mule deer. They are smaller in body size with ear-to-ear measurements of about 19" for perpective. Their antlers can push 30" or more with age.

It is G3, Goodale hunt. It runs for 2 weeks in December. It takes max points, I believe there was only 23 tags, with 10 percent going to random. This hunt is not what it used to be. The nearest big/small town is Bishop. This hunt takes place off HWY 395 and Division Creek road.

Good buck for being a severe drought year. My dad and uncles drew a premium Northern California X-Zone, they killed one buck out of 4 guys!! BLM and cowboys were chasing down wild mustangs with helicopters, quads, and trucks, they covered the whole zone over 8 days and they were not even seeing does. We have drawn this tag 3 times, always killed 25-30 inch bucks. They wasted 9 years on points. Now they hunt eastern Washington with me 😆

Any real hunter would say it's insanity looking for bucks that are mating. Why? Because they are the strongest ones and should be allowed to replicate. Only in America hunters will look for the strongest ones to take out. I get it, they want the trophy and the chase. but that is NOT what hunting is about. In Europe, it is really difficult to get a hunting license. Hours and hours of classroom work, realizing that being t a hunter is not for trophy hunting but about creating balance, only taking out weak and sick animals to strengthen the population. Or reducing a population that got too big. Again only taking out weaker animals. It's simply abhorrent what they are doing. Hunting is to satisfy the ego, not to get equilibrium. But hey ho, it's America, trying to impress people with the biggest weapons and no clue how nature actually works. Show me one study that says that taking out the strongest male is good for a population. Common sense should tell any reasonable person that is a pretty stupid thing to do. Weakening the DNA pool one shot at a time.

Y'all are wrong. CA is just hard to hunt. The deer population is crap, but they have some giants. Gotta work for them, be willing to really bust ass hiking. If it wasn't for the crap political bullshit in CA I'd have never left. Californians rights are being stripped away little at a time. Now you have background check and registration for your gun, and then gotta have background check for the ammo to shoot the gun you just got with a background check. Next step, they're going to restrict you to only buy ammunition for the guns they have records on. So you're buddy can't but 45 auto because he only owns a 38. Then throw in the protection of all predators except coyotes. You know the reason we have that federal crap on our licenses and id's is because CA decided to give illegals drivers licenses. So we, US citizens, have to prove we're citizens and live here. Sorry went off tangent there. I left that communist state for a free state. Montana

@@skylightoutdoors7374 400,000 and dropping. Especially the last two years. Last year the Tehama herd lost over 50% of the new born due to a virus. Not to mention the black bears are killing more than they'll admit, and they can't run dogs anymore. Those bears no longer fear man or beast as I watched one come out of a den that I was standing on, approached my truck where my dog was looked inside and just walked away (tag was already filled) I saw 26 black bears the last season I hunted there, got charged and almost attacked and came face to face with 4 more (literally within 10 yards and one within 5 feet in the dark) usually considered myself lucky to see 1-3ba season. Throw in the wolves that are back, and the wolf crossbreeds they released in Monterey County, the protection of mountain lions... it's only gonna get worse. In the 60's the population was well over 2 million, now it's way less than ½ million. No the population isn't that good. But yes I do believe there are giants because I've got pictures of them. 2017 I had 13 bucks patterned (public land c zone) with spreads well outside the ears. Five of which I targeted. I found them on the opening Sunday but had injured my back and couldn't get after em. I did get a shot at the main buck (JohnBoy) but he slipped into the lava beds and I couldn't follow. Back injuries fucking suck. 86 mature bucks were killed in a landslide in bishop during the migration. That's 860 does that didn't get bred with those good genetics. There's pictures of it, just gotta dig deep online. Just deer rotting bodies under rocks. Sad really. Since then that particular herd hasn't recovered completely and the genetics that were lost may never be seen again. I dove down done rabbit holes and read all kinds of CDFW biologists reports rating back to the 60's to the present. It's rather disturbing how things have played out even with the suggestions that CDFW has written. They have no power thanks to the propaganda and lies the anti hunting groups have said. The majority of voters are city dwellers that don't even know how to camp, let alone understand wildlife. You know the mountain lions need to be managed, CDFW wants to open hunting for them but they're classified in a way that they can't do a damn thing about it. They pay out of state hunters via taxpayer's money to come into the state and kill the lions where over population is a problem. 20 killed in a canyon i can't remember the name of at the cost of 250k. They couldn't sold tags to us and made money but the state is ran by retards. So glad I left
