End game is to ban all diesels. I remember when you could smoke on airplanes. Then only the back. Then only on the flights longer than 6 hours. Then total ban. Take it a step further: smoking (in Cali) is banned even in outdoor areas where people may walk by. You can smoke all the weed you want, but smoke a cig and you're screwed.

What the bureaucrats don't seem to realize. With programs like cash for clunkers or abolishing diesel trucks of a certain age is it those vehicles of a certain age all of them. are cheap to repair. As a mechanic that owns my own business I haven't gone through all the state testing to obtain. A California smog license. I can tell you that most of the Older vehicles the California wants off the road. Usually have high mileage on them which means they are a good investment and the reason that they will not pass emissions Testing is not because of the Emissions numbers that come out of the tailpipe it's because they've been modified Or technology that they were fitted with from the factory no longer works properly. That does not necessarily mean that they're inefficient. You are not allowed to modify them for example if you have an old truck that did not come with a Catalytic converter from the factory and it will not pass smog if you were to put a catalytic converter On that vehicle so that it passed The required emissions . It would be deemed modified and fail missions testing. California wants to send that vehicle to the scrapyard to be recycled Even though that vehicle is viable And has already redeemed itself as far as a carbon footprint goes because it's been on the road for 30 years. There has been relatively no changes in fundamental internal combustion engine design. A healthy well tuned engine. Is a efficient one. Doesn't that just defeat the point. You're not allowed to modify your vehicle to run cleaner to pass State emission standards. So now let's spend a whole lot of money in electricity melting that thing down recycling it to build a whole bunch of cars that will only last 5 to 10 years It's like Using a single use plastic drinking device. Instead of washing one made of glass to be used for years and years to come. California clean air resource board in our government are out too luch. Here's another example if you're a car maybe 5 to 10 years old needs a new catalytic converter. While the ones that are stamped to be sold in California. Are 2 to 3 times the money. Even though it's the exact same one used on vehicles. That are labled with 48 state-federal emissions. 2 to 3 times more expensive for a part number. Is that helping the environment. I think it helps someone's pocket book But definitely not the people. It does not make sense. And as far as diesel trucks And tractors any equipment with particulate filters. The ones that Use def fluid and have to go through a Regen process to burn off all of the collected Soot/ CarbonWhich is always problemacAdd extra costs and inconvenience to the owner and operator of a vehicle that is. I would like to post the question. What difference does it make if you save up all of the material in the particulate filter and then burn it off by injecting D eF an extra diesel via dosing valve to burn off the extra particulates at a very high temperature back into the environment During the Regen process. they want these filters as so they do not release Knox Which is produced by combustion temperatures over 2500°. So their solution is to heated up to that temperature whil it is in the exhaust system then release it into the environment and that way they can say it wasn't produced by the engine. It's an absolute joke. And I have to add that California only has one working nuclear power plant as far as I know the rest of our energy comes from PG burning natural gas so what do you think your electric car runs on it's not 0 emissions. Not even close they're digging up huge pits into destroying natural rainforests On other continents in other countries with children hauling lithium and cobalt out of mines on their back. Everything comes from something. California air resource board Used to pull their head out of that dark space That smells funny.

You sir, have made an honest, sensible and wholesome video explaining the difference between the good people and the nonsense government of the state. I was born and raised in California, both southern and Bay Area. My wife and I have tried other states and honestly just miss our original home to death. It’s a shame that government can make it dangerous near impossible. We still explore the idea from time to time and even got real close to doing it once, but the job offer fell through. And with what I do for a living now and being a business owner in the industry, I feel like I’d always be looking over my shoulder. You know being kind of paranoid about “breaking rules.” NorCal is definitely a different attitude and I honestly love all parts of the state and I’m so sick and tired of everyone being so negative against the people of California either because they’re bitter from moving or make assumptions and have never been there. There are good people in that state and there’s a lot of behind the scenes on what goes on with voting that people don’t realize. Well anyway I’m beginning to write a novel. Just really appreciate the video and love your business and love for older equipment. God bless you, your family and your success out on your land. ✌️

A lot of people don't realize that during the dog days of emission controls, policies developed to clear the air of photochemical smog in the LA basin drastically increased greenhouse gas emissions ! In order to reduce NOX emissions, crude emissions equipment dramatically reduced fuel economy and power, the increased fuel burn increased CO2 emissions into the atmosphere !! Gasoline engine emissions controls have evolved o the point where they run great and are relatively efficient. Diesels in pickups nowadays are sold on size and power, rather than maximum utility, like they were in the 1990's - prior. 1990's Diesels were the peak balance of efficiency, simplicity, with adequate power to get the job done. Nowadays, everyone has been led to believe that they need huge power, regardless of cost, lower mileage, and lesser reliability. I love common rail, but all the baggage that goes with it is too much. The concept of burning more fuel in order to "reduce" emissions is insane.... I feel lucky I don't need a medium duty truck here. 4500 and 5500 trucks are NOT pickups !! they may share the same cab , front sheet metal, and engines, but the frames and running gear are totally different..... Don't lump them in the same class. They are a medium duty truck. I remember the rolling year change on gas vehicles ended in the early 2000's, really pissed me off !!

So you have all the new power, trans and exhaust brake, and updated axels in a pre smog truck that would have all the amenities like ac, heat, power windows and locks, etc. you could probably get the build done for $20,000-$30,000 with having a shop do most of the work. And have a really valuable badass 93 with no smog. Or go up to a 97 if you rather that body style. The only draw back is not having that sweet 4 door, And I understand that. I live in the "Live Free or Die" state of New Hampshire. One of my favorite vehicles was a 2000 Durango that I swapped a 4bt Cummins and NV4500 into. Fuel mileage went from around 13mpg to 28-30mpg! It burned clean and was a pleasure to drive. I was forced to sell it because our emissions laws made it illegal to pass emissions inspection. How insane is it that a 13mpg gas burning 360 V8 is legal, but a 30mpg 4cyl diesel is illegal? These laws make little sense. A few other benefits of the diesel- 10k mile oil changes instead of 3k miles; Little maintenance other than fluids and filters and valve adjustments, vs throwing away old plugs, wires, distributor cap & rotor, and other "routine" maintenance parts on a regular basis. Those parts are kept out of a landfill, and I save money.

Unfortunately here in the north few vehicles last 20 years due to rust. This happened around 2012, so it would require parking it for 8 years. I hope to some day move to a warmer, dryer climate, to a state without emissions testing. That would solve all of the problems. I currently have a 2018 Jeep Wrangler on 1 ton axles that gets used heavily off road and also pulls our camper trailer. It needs more power for towing but I'm limited here. Thank you for this video. I was born and raised and live here in California. I drive a 3rd gen 2007 6.7 Cummins and I live my truck. It’s deleted, so put it back for the smog. Once the smog is done I take it all off. That truck runs amazing! Gets 22mpg, has gobs and gobs of power! It’s lifted with 22s and it’s a mega-cab. I love this state! All my friends out of state cut down California all the time, and me too for living here. I’m not going to move to a place where the weather is always trying to kill me! i.e. tornados, hurricanes, hail the sizes of baseballs! Etc. that just doesn’t happen here and I love that! I’m in the foothills near Yosemite NP. And yeah, the cost is high here but my God makes a way for me to afford to live in this beautiful state. I live in a beautiful 3800sq. ft. Home with a pool and 4 car garage in a great neighborhood. Why would I want to leave that?! I hope the state doesn’t come after my 3rd gen. I love that truck and so many people want to buy it from me. So thank you for this video.👍

Sam, what do I agree with your comment that clean air is better. But even with these newer trucks burning cleaner. What about all the costs associated with that. All the plastic def tanks in the cardboard box that I throw in the trash? The precious metals we mine overseas and ship them in container ships for the converters, the fewer miles per gallon these newer trucks are getting because of all this crap on them. My personal opinion is deleting these trucks installing a nice clean tune, getting a few more miles a gallon, and not having to continue to contribute to the landfills, is better for everyone. On a side note, I do love the fact global hats are red, white, and blue.

The air was cleaned up from feedback carburetors, throttle body fuel injection, and 3 way catalytic converters by the late 1980s. And the air quality will never be perfect, because the volatile organic hydrocarbons in the surrounding pine forests create their own photochemical smog.

That would keep classic cars on the road and limit folks from using a polluter as a commuter. Car culture is a huge portion of California GDP and Sacramento is trying to kill it.

Great video! The banning of internal combustion engines was first done by the German Green Party. Then 2 or 3 years ago, an exception was granted to "synfuel" vehicles. Which is vehicles the use the current blend of R-30 biomass and 70% Petroleum diesel fuel. Also the current oxygenated gasoline meets the "synfuel" specification. In Europe the CP-4 fuel pumps are just as reliable as the CP-3. In California, Propel Fuels, markets a R-99 biomas fuel that is lower priced than 100% petroleum diesel. I add Hot Shots Secret EDT to my diesel fuel of any kind. So the real problem is the fuel specifications in the USA makes diesel engines less reliable, less fuel efficient, and more polluting than the technology available has for us. So the real solution is change the fuel spec to a better fuel. The legislators need to stop blaming the engines. The fuel is rotten, and so are the lazy politicians!

Multiple Per power stroke was not to make them burn cleaner it was to make them quieter You hit the nail right on the head they stoped the 30 year rolling exemption 1 year after they put It in place. I literally was Inrolled in smog technician training when they did this I had recently bought for a couple 100 bucks in 1975 3/4 Ton GMC pick up I had to smog it one more time before it was exempt. I had to mess with that thing to get it Pass never came with cattle converse cause it was 3/4 . Got it through his last Smog Check Proceeded to take every piece of smog emissions equipment off of that engine put it very mild cannon higher compression heads with a holly 750 vacuum secondary and the headers. Funny part is I was working to be a small technician and had access to emissions testing equipment after eliminating All of the Smog and emission devices on that vehicle it ran twice as clean Out of the tailpipe and the dead with all the worn out emissions equipment on. I like hot rods but in these modern times they can all be made to run clean so to me shouldn't really matter. I would be okay with emissions testing on most Maybe even all vehicles it just has to be measured by what comes out of the Tailpipe because after all isn't that The point. Modern vehicles are all loaded down with a way too much tech just look at the size of a new Honda Civic It's twice as big as an accord which used to be the bigger car and it's twice as heavy and it does not get even half the gas mileage to the Honda Civic did in the 80s with a carburetor it's all a joke.

The main issue with getting paid to put energy back into the grid with your home solar array is that the power company still needs to pull in money for the line maintenance as well as the maintenance \ upgrades \ etc. for their own power generation equipment along with overhead costs. At least from business standpoint, if you're running a power company, you don't want to pay your customers to connect to your electrical grid, even if they're supplying power during times when it's needed. Such a model would only work for as long as the over-producers with their solar arrays were in the vast minority of "customers". Otherwise, they've turned customers into competitors who don't have to pay the upfront, upgrade, or maintenance costs related to the power infrastructure their hooked into.

@VBELTandSON Yeah, aside from the upfront and maintenance costs for generating electricity on your own, that's about the only way you're going to be able to avoid having to fork over the cash for those overpriced electrons. It's just that the power company is in it for the money, and you saving money via solar kind of runs counter to that goal. Though, if you take the off-grid approach, converting an old cummins into a generator, if you have one with a good engine but rotten frame, could make for a cool project.

@@yarrik701 That is the faulty logic they sellbto maintain the monopoly . The problem is billions of that maintenance is because they have to string (and maintain ) a high voltage network to pump electricity hundreds of miles from other states and around the state to get it from centralized facilities... parasitic losses in high voltage power lines from these centralized power plants could be avoided entirely if production was spread to millions of generation points instead of a handful . A properly designed local grid can literally take electricity from your extra ... pump it two houses down to your neighbor over cheaper small local wires mounted on a bormal pole , have a fraction of the line losses and skip paying the additional tens of billions the next time your ill maintained high voltage lines burns up half the state . Less additional investments needed for the next big megaplants as well . No one can convince me it is about the money ... they throw that away by the bucket . It is about protecting the power of the monopoly even if they make less money 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @yarrik701

    @yarrik701

    9 күн бұрын

@@Freedom_Half_Off What? They maintain the monopoly via government regulation that keeps small upstart companies from entering into the market. If it was easy to throw down some solar panels or stand up some form of power generator, string wire and start selling electricity, I'm sure someone out there would be trying it, especially with how bad some of these power companies have become. Same reason you don't see people starting car companies left and right, over regulation, it's too difficult and costly to enter these markets. Hey, if you hate those high voltage transmission lines so much, start makings calls to your elected officials to outlaw them and force power companies to take them down. If you're right, there's no harm in isolating electrical grids for and within the state while moving to renewables and home solar generation. I'd rather get my power from coal uclear atural gas\hydro, with a propane generator that can also power propane accessories, but eh, that's me. XD

On your comment about biodiesel there's a better way. The whole country needs to switch over to biodiesel from Hemp. You can get 1200 to 1500 gallons of diesel from 1 acre of Hemp. Hemp has a short growing season of 3 to 4 months. Hemp is carbon negative because it absorbs 2 times the CO2 and produces 2 times more O2 because it grows so fast.

Hey watched this whole vid thank you for doing it learned some very useful things about Diesel trucks. Autozone has some higher performance rotors by EBC for Dodge Trucks and sells Brembo pads that seems like it would be a great combination for performance. I haven't yet gone with EBC but decided a while back that when I can, I want to get EBC, for my Maxima. They're not cheap, but I would expect them to be really well and perform really well. I caught on to them when I had a sportbike. I may have gotten them for that when I replaced them on my 2002 Honda CBR 600 f4i that I had. It seems to me that the Deisel fuel is in need of an update to remove sulfur so that no sulfur dioxide can be created which can burn the eyes. I noticed it this summer while following a slow moving large truck that was directed at me and I had to pull off the road and wait. After watching this video, it gives me a better idea of what vehicles are more problematic with this type of pollution and after watching this, I'd say its the bigger trucks that get lower mpg that are more of a problem. But I do wish that they made sure converters were on all vehicles of any date including the muscle cars of the 60's and early 70's they shouldn't be exempted because then they are contributing to producing the unconverted nitrogen dioxide, methane, and other gases that were producing smog and doing the global warming. If it were up to me I would say lets not run them for a year or more any heavy machinery and stop building roads for at least a year or two to recover go through seasonal changes without the heavy load of heavy machinery gases all year in every state. I hope there is no styrene present in diesel fuel formulas and benzene also and hope they remove it. Burning the parrafins, which is white oil, lamp oil, mineral oil, burning it produces lamp black which is carbon black. Diesel is a slower hot burning fuel but has probably contributed greatly to global warming all of this century. The formulation for diesel is 40% parrafin, which does produce soot. Other fuel sources used for home heating does not but is not available at most gas fillup stores but is at some but that could change. They burn a lot cleaner so if the engine could run on a fuel source such as propane, which I have witnessed that over the course of home heating with propane for more than 20 years produced very little amount of soot in the exhaust of the propane fired boiler when I cleaned it. I have worked at a place that had propane forktrucks, but you did also have to be concerned about breathing, because of carbon monoxide and stuff as with any of these, however if it proved to be a better option to lower greenhouse gases, and all that was necessary was to get new tanks would that be a feasible change I'm wondering. I think the best option would be run everything on natural gas and if necessary modify all the fuel management systems, update them to optimally run the best on that. But have natural gas fillup stations around at all the gas stations. Run all the heavy equipment on that, and no longer sell diesel fuel because since its mostly paraffinic oil (lamp oil)/mineral oil, there's no way to clean up the formulation. that's its makeup, produces carbon black when burned lots of it and is made of a lot of carbon though it begins clear its deceptive. its formulation cannot really be changed to fix its dirty fuel problem then only replaced. essentially diesel fuel is a way to sell and make paraffinic oil power vehicles. however it should be evaluated whether or not diesel fuel, and also liquid parrafin produces off gasses when burned, and what they become converted to with the supplied converters, what off gases do we have, and do any of them contribute to holding onto temperatures in the air for longer, producing a insulation effect unwanted in the summertime and potentially devastating as we are now experiencing with the heat waves and harsher whether. Larger fires because of hotter whether harder to put them out because harder to be out in the heat. We really need to be doing a lot of testing to determine what is the culprit and what should be done. But in my opinion, the government when its all said and done should supply the catalytic converters so that they can be put on. The labor cost could be part of vehicle maintenance responsible to the consumer but in my opinion all vehicles of all years should have necessary catalytic converters including before 1990 with Diesel should in my opinion because theres a lot of vehicles still in use and service before that date especially farm tractors and heavy equipment and dump trucks etc. thanks for posting this vid and learned some and have been interested about what we can do about emissions to help resolve the global warming problem.

The annual MOT is £50 odd pounds . Ways and means , just because it has to be tested doesn't mean you can't use it . We have ultra low emission zones in cities where you can't go with an older vehicle but why would I want to go to the middle of a large city full of people ? So suits me just fine.

Grew up in Whittier CA. Was such a great place. Joined the Navy @ 18, been on the east side of the country ever since. (KY/TN) so much better/cheaper and less government rules. I hear your pain. Love to visit family in CA. But no regret leaving! Move and go visit, save yourself tens of thousands! And way less headache! It's only going to get worse. Sorry, but it's the truth. Good luck sir, thanks for sharing.

I live part time in the beautiful mountains of northern California. Bought a F550 with the 7.3 turbo diesel under the hood. Filled out all the paperwork and paid all the fees CA DMV required, got my 90 day temp tags. When my 90 day temp had barely a week left, received a letter from DMV stating my rig was Registration Denied due to it's weight and age, also my temp tags would not be extended. So with the little time I had left on temp tags I drove it to and registered it in my other state (half the money, very little paperwork, plates and tags the same day without delay) then filled out CA DMV forms requesting my money back cause they never registered it and it was now registered out of state. After another long wait, got a letter stating I could only (maybe) get my money back if I could prove I Sold It, or Turned It in As Scrap to a Junk Yard. SCREW this Corrupt State, it's Criminal Leadership. I will be selling the property I own here and never return. Hoping to live long enough to hear The Big Quake finally hit, took all these A-holes with it to the bottom of the ocean.

Parents moved out of Northern California on 1979. They saw it come in best thing they did.

I was talking to a diesel mechanic today. He said that gas will start to go away but still be avaible. He said that diesel will be out longer than i'm alive because they need big machines to pull planters and mine lithium for cars. He said that they are more focusing on gasoline and the after treatment will get more complex and make it burn even cleaner. Thats fine with me as long as I can drive my antique tractors and still farm with papas german air cooled tractors

Having a 97 7.3 myself I agree. But they can look under the truck to see if you deleted your muffler and cat. Which I worry about. Also I think they can pull u over if u are rolling coal. Which I don't do. But regardless
