I ALSO felt dizzy just as the quake started....first I felt dizzy, then I felt my computer chair moving and wondered if this is an earthquake, then everything in my house started shaking - I was 150 miles away in Los Angeles --- the second one lasted well over a minute in Los Angeles. The further away from the epicenter the longer they last.

actually, it lasts longer depending on the intensity in that area. they do not teach very well about this in schools, so i cut you a lot of slack. you can see my videos to know what i'm talking about. the CLOSER it is, and the higher magnitude causes longer shaking.

I actually felt this very quake at my parent's house near Barstow, CA, about 60 miles south of Ridgecrest. Was finished clearing the table after a late dinner and was changing out the trash bag in our kitchen. We had a M6.4 quake around 10:30 the previous morning. We live in a double-wide mobile home, and this was noticeably stronger. At first it felt like a slow roller, and then it just quickly started to shake violently like a kid trying to figure out what is in a box on Christmas. I've lived in California all my life, so I am no stranger to earthquakes, but this still had me bolting out the back door. For several minutes afterwards, the ground continued to roll constantly as we got all the aftershocks. After things calmed down, I headed into town to fill up our water bottles and fill up the tank in the car, just in case. We thought even though we were told that there was a 10% chance of a stronger quake the previous morning, we were done. Not so, and supposedly there was still a chance that the 7.1 was a precursor. Was not going to take the chance. The previous 6.4 quake on July 4th happened while I was sleeping from a long night with the baking shift at Dunkin' Donuts. At first I thought it was my dog licking herself, but it got stronger. Then I looked at my floor-mounted light and was swaying, and I realized it was an earthquake. I was trying to decide what to do, if I should get up and get my slippers on and take cover under my desk or just stay in bed. By the time I decided, the shaking stopped. Later we joked around and said "Well, I guess even God wanted to celebrate the 4th of July." It also coincided with my niece's 7th birthday. When asked what she thought of the quake, she enthusiastically said, and I quote, "The whole earth shook like Mommy's boobs!" 😂

Ridgecrest resident for 26 years. Of course we were known for earthquake swarms back in the early 1990s which might explain why we were so well prepared for the triple quakes in 2019; 6.4, 5.4, and 7.1 All things considered, there was very little damage and few injuries. Earthquakes of this magnitude would have caused far more damage anywhere else The same could be said for the Morongo Basin; another seismically active area of the desert. Back in 1992 they were hit with a magnitude 7.3 and 6.4 earthquakes a few hours apart. There was some significant damage but very few injuries. Some like to say these areas are sparsely populated which explains why we come out of it unscathed. Not so; Coalinga is also sparsely populated and was leveled by a 6.4 earthquake. Its real simple; practice makes perfect. Be prepared and you will survive a big one

I was living in Palm Springs during the 1992 Landers 7.4 and the Big Bear quake 6.5. Not one ounce of damage. The July 4 quake I was in bed and felt it. But my husband standing right next to me dud not. The next day. July 5th I was at a concert inside a casino in Indio and everyone felt that 7.1. I got home and asked my husband did he feel the quake. He said not but he heard things fall in the bathroom and closet. Go figure.

Earthquakes are very common in California. We are taught to get under something and hold, but when earthquakes hit very abruptly it’s instinct to freak out a little bit. Usually we wait to see if it gets stronger before we act. If it’s just a tiny shaker then we go with the flow.

But I've mostly felt 4 or 5. A 7 was quite a new experience. I felt more dazed by it, mainly because the ground rumbling caught my attention first. I remember in 2004-2005 we had a 7.9 earthquake that lasted for about 5mins in Fairbanks. Luckily since we have permafrost under Fairbanks there was not a lot of damage, but we were feeling after shocks for a few days.

I remember both quakes, which was at work in oilfield foothills near Taft (roughly 90 miles away). I was doing security work and in guard shack. Second one that hit, it wasn’t too strong but just enough to move buildings around. I was watching movie on phone since it was slow day, I just looked up and said “ugh, stop it” and continued to watch movie.

Undergoing surgery, delivering a baby, taking a dump, showering with your body filled with soap or your hair with shampoo etc. ---> those are the worst moments to get shaken during earthquakes. 🥴
