Sunnyside Station is located on the community border between Sunnyside and Hillhurst in Northwest Calgary. It services the popular sub-community of Kensington, a popular retail and tourist destination inside of Hillhurst with a dense walkable urban fabric. It is located north of the Bow River, near Sunnyside Station Park, next to 10 Street NW.
Sunnyside Station was opened in 1987 as an extension of the Red Line ahead of the 1888 Calgary Winter Olympics. The station features a mix of a wooden chalet design and an 1800s Victorian design, paying homage to the historic streetcar the area once hosted. The station is an open-air outdoor 2-sided station and is on the Northwest leg of the Red Line.
