Calgary is a city in the Canadian province of Alberta. It is situated at the confluence of the Bow River and the Elbow River in the south of the province, in an area of foothills and prairie, about 80 km (50 mi) east of the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies. The city anchors the south end of the Statistics Canada-defined urban area, the Calgary-Edmonton Corridor.
The city had a population of 1,267,344 in 2018, making it Alberta's largest city and Canada's third-largest municipality. Also in 2016, Calgary had a metropolitan population of 1,392,609, making it the fourth-largest census metropolitan area (CMA) in Canada.
Calgary's economy includes activity in the energy, financial services, film and television, transportation and logistics, technology, manufacturing, aerospace, health and wellness, retail, and tourism sectors. The Calgary CMA is home to Canada's second-highest number of corporate head offices among the country's 800 largest corporations. In 2015 Calgary had the highest number of millionaires per capita of any major Canadian city. In 1988 it became the first Canadian city to host the Winter Olympic Games.
Calgary has consistently been recognized for its high quality of life. In 2018 The Economist magazine ranked it the world's fourth-most liveable city in its Global Liveability Ranking. Calgary is classed as a Beta global city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network.

With low oil prices Calgary became almost as a ghost town, with the pandemic it's worst now, still it's a beautiful city though, we need to move from a resource-based economy to a knowledge-based economy

Beautiful city, great video!
The downtown core of Calgary was completely devoid of art, culture or modern buildings for decades. Just when that starts to turn around, the oil economy tanks again and it's even more of a ghost town.

Wow this is great was waiting for this big time! Would be great if you covered the Beltline area too where all the residential towers and bars are. Only thing sucks is a lot of the pedestrians are walking along the skybridge(+15), which is the largest network of its kind, it really kills the street life especially on chiller days.

I don´t get the meaning of the glass pedestrian bridges that span over the street interconnecting two buildings... Are these built instead of normal pedestrian crossings or are the two particular buildings connected from another reason? (e.g. one company works in two buildings and it is easier to get to other departments this way?...)
@summerrayy7550
3 жыл бұрын
These glass bridges connect almost all of Calgary’s downtown buildings together, its purpose is mainly for winter when it can get pretty chilly outside so people can use these pathways instead of going out in the cold. They’re called “+15”

@@gustavoaguilar3962 Economy is in a downturn because oil prices are very low since 2014 and Calgary is very reliant on the Oil And Gas sector. @@godneptune2214 About 9%. Tech is coming in hard right now, lots of opportunity in that sector. Calgary won’t be a “Detroit” though as local and provincial governments are working hard to bring in biz and investment to diversify. For Edmonton also. Tech growth is an example of that…
