Calculating The Volume of an Excavation
This video will explain the process for calculating the volume of material that will need to be carted off site when digging an excavation for a foundation on a level lot. The math is all in imperial - the process is identical in metric. If you are working in metric, be sure to convert all dimensions to meters before doing any calculations.

Straight forward, not some arcane wizard on a calculator lesson. Thanks for a well thought out lesson.
Thank you, Bernard, for sharing the knowledge. Used to calculate the excavation cubes but yes, at the end of the day the hauling units are always in MTs which will be hard to track, as the tonnage always differs according to the different types of soil ...
Thank you Mister Bernard for a detailed explanation.
Thanks a lot. This video was more helpfull than all school classes
Great video explained really clearly. On project this is what can make or break budget. You can use software but software without understanding the basic principles can be very costly. Thank you for great video..
Amazing..Amazing....Amazing. way much better than my Quantity Surveying Instructor. thank you Sir. from South Africa
Thanks for spending an entire day making this video! Incredibly useful and easy to understand! PS. Great job on the drawings!
I'm taking a class on estimating at university and they did not cover excavation very well. This was extremely helpful! I really appreciate the guidance and commend you for the time you spent making the video.
This the first Video making sense since my research on the platform. Grateful
This video is perfect!!! Thank you, for taking the time to explain the process in detail.
Extremely helpful and thorough. Thank you!
Super helpful video! The one last valuable thing at the end would be to know how much volume to weight that is, the cubik ft/m3 is helpful but the final key number is to know the weight of that material and then you know how many trucks you need to get the job done. Great video, hope to see more videos like this!
a lot better than my professor. i hope you post a lot of videos about Estimating takeoff procedures and calculations
Great Explanation, Clear Concise and Professional
Thanks for taking the time to explain this..... So much appreciated!!!
very good easy understanding
Thank you so much , This will be extremely important in the bidding process . Very thorough , great video .
Love it. Very clear to understand.
This was so well explained. Thanks for taking the time to do this video was so helpful
Yeah, this video is great. Thank you very much
Thank you! much needed to see a real life sitch.
Great video! Very helpful!
Found this to be very instructive. Thanks!
Nice tutorial sir! from philippines here
Very, very, very good video.
special thanks, that was just awesome
Great job!
thank you for making the video it is essential!
Thanks for your video. Could you please share your knowledge about calculating earthwork according to cut & fill area? I’m really appreciated for that!
SO UNDERSTANDABLE THANKS
Wish my maths lecturer was anything like you
Thanks you sir !!!
Extremely useful information in this Video and I appreciate you for making it "easy" to understand for us, I am intrigued by the calculator app that you are using, could you please tell me what is the name of that calculator app? Thank you in advance!
do you have excel template of site layout and excavation for retail with footers at ---
excellent video
Loved it
So much information… that’s great .. 🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂💐💐💐💐
very good well done
Thank You so much sir
Make a video which discuses about about soil types and frost line before making a foundation.
You've simplified something that the textbooks over complicate. They would have us figure excavation with grids, figuring out volume square by square.
Nice work
Dear sir I am your fan really ....Please suggest me some books of civil engineering
Very good
Also easier way to do the average, which I came up with when you mentioned making it a box. Is by simply adding one side for the cut instead of doing all that work, really.
Is there any Facebook groups you guys know about where I can share a job I'm doing that I think I underpriced
Thx Buddy!!!! Hintch
Zang!!!!
Way over thinking it
what book are you reading from?
