Background: Alvíssmál is part of the Poetic Edda (13th Century) and tells the story of the dwarf Alvíss, coming to Thor's home where a great feast is taking place. Alvíss lets Thor know that he got engaged with Thor's daughter while Thor was away. Thor's not amused about that as he has never given his agreement to the affiance, but Alvíss insists on taking Thor's daughter with him. So they both agree to solve the problem with fighting a rethorical contest - Alvíss has to prove his knowledge about all different names of things, their synonyms and how they are called within the different mythological entities among the Nordic Mythology. Avíss succeeds in answering all sorts of Thor's questions correctly and Thor is really paying respect to the dwarf's knowledge, but what Alvíss does not know yet: Thor is deliberately taking his time as he knows, as soon as the first sunbeam hits the dwarf, Alvíss will be turned to stone...

aber ich muss mal sagen, die schweizer machen auch guten metal, zumindest Caladmor, mir gefällt der song echt gut und ich hoffe das man mal mehr aus dem nachbar ländchen hört

one thing i find odd. they are swiss so their ancestors were more celtic, such as la tene one of the kelts oldest civilizations. not norse or germanic.

Patrick Bertlein actually the ancestors of the swiss were a mix of romans, helvets and allamannen, at least in the swiss german speaking part of switzerland.

Not sure where you are getting your information, but one of the major Celt sites is at La Tene, Switzerland. This is one of two of the earliest sites for this civilization. Look forward to reading about these other groups though.

Norra, the Helvets are a sub group of the Gauls/ celts, Romans came AD and Allamanens were more West German, which is religiously the closest to the themes this band sings about.

Patrick Bertlein the alemannen were in parts of switzerland too. that's where the swiss german language comes from. It is true, that helvets were there bevore, but for a long time they were ruled by the romans. with the downfall of the roman empire the alamanns moved in.
