Mongo & Willie were in Tito Puente’s band , with Bobby Rodriguez on bass. It is purported to be the best afro cuban rhythm. Tito fired Mongo and Willie at the insistance of his mgr/booker who said “ there’s too much color in the band . We’re losing gigs in the Catskills” Cal snapped them up and had his best rhythm section. After Cal they both went on to having succesful bands playing afro cuban versions of R&B hits.People like Herbie began writing for that sound, like Watermelon Man.

La versión de Bobby Shew en trompeta, muy buena. Le recomiendo la del maestro bajista Al Mckibbon, en su versión, el arreglo fue en flauta y el paisa Justo Almario en Saxo Soprano. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nIWlt6xslZOaYrw.html Todas excelentes versiones.

@@andreapaisaecheverri No, la de Al McKibbon que le compartí no tiene vibrafono. Todo el arreglo es en instrumentos de viento madera, percusión, piano y contrabajo. Pero Al Mckibbon es el bajista original del arreglo para Cubano Chant que hizo Cal Tjader en vibrafono junto a Willie Bobo en la batería y el gran Mongo Santamaria en las tumbadoras en el 1958.
