Cal Falcons: Little Boy Blue Nox visits tower 💙 2024 June 6

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Cal Falcons tells us that all 4 chicks are flying well in these first few days after fledge. It was good to see Nox, the youngest and smallest of the four, visit the tower this morning.

I would usually see falcons on top of light posts or around open fields. Did not make an impression on me until...... I found falcons on you tube😍 They are beautiful and their coloring is beautiful as well. Ty SK for narrating these great videos!!

He's smaller than his siblings, but is a go-getter. How else to compensate for his size, when they all competed in the nest for food, right? Nox had to employ certain strategies to get his share. Smart boy!

How do you tell the chicks apart? I worried about Nox unnecessarily. He looks great.

They have colored bands on their legs. Nox is blue, Aurora is green, Sol is yellow, and Eclipse is silver (actually no colored band). They all also have a black band on their other leg.

Do they instinctually know how to hunt for food?

No they are taught by their parents.

At least as I inderstand the process, the parents train the fledglings how to hunt for prey, some time after the latter leave the nest. I presume that would take place once the youngin's improve their aerial skills. Thus the fledglings' initial screeches for feedings. Brats. 😉

No. They'll spend the next 6-8 weeks being taught how to hunt by Annie & Archie. In the meantime, A&A will continue the door dash deliveries and teaching them the art of mid-flight prey transfers. ʘ‿ʘ
