ohhh I wish! but they sell it in 50 lb and I do not have that many orders so dont know where to keep it for long without goin stale or rancid (I live in FL)

Hey! Yes, all LIVES are saved for 6 months (that's the max that FB allows) so you can watch up to 6 months after it ends.

I totally get that you work alone - I asked my sister to help with decorating cuz it always intimidates me and I haven't been successful yet (which is a shame because my cakes are really good), but she is so LAID BACK. I now spend HOURS practicing & crying into my icing or heaving into a paper bag from nerves, LOL. BUT working alone is way less stress than relying on others!

Also in my state NC you must have a Licensed Kitchen as well as the LLC, you also have to have a City Permit of Occupancy to even sell out of your house.

Same in PA, I had to get a zoning variance and the kitchen inspected.
I just bought an edible printer and mention you to everyone I see and tell them about your cleaning video.

My favorite buttercream to make is Italian meringue buttercream. I learned how to make it from the KZread channel How to Cake It.

😂😂 The sigh is just because I wish I could help more, but not sure how to even start! It's best to call around just to see the going rate in your area and base your prices off of that. I hope that helped!

I've been doing this lately. I'll ema a bakery a picture of a cake I've done and ask how much they would charge. Guess what. I'm always too low with my price. I recently did a cake that I charged 150 for. They saw the cake I made and said they would charge 425. 🤦🏻♀️

All Amazing tips per usual…I have to say that homemade fondant kinda intimidates me so I only use Satin Ice…At first I didn’t like it but I’ve used it for so many years that I have learned how to work with it. Maybe one day….Maybe.

If you know the ins and outs of it, I'd stick with that! That's why I only use marshmallow fondant 😊

An LLC is CAN protect personal assets. However, there are TONS of loop holes with that. There is a WHOLE lot more than simply creating an LLC.

Hello, thank you for this amazing video. Question regarding about the fun part of the business “taxes 😂” Do you have to have sales taxes account? And if it’s the case is something that you pay quarterly? Thank you for everything many blessings

I do have a sales tax account! I don't have to pay sales tax on my cakes (in PA), but I do pay sales tax on the digital products I sell. I usually send those in monthly so I don't forget. I pay my estimated taxes quarterly (April, June, Sept, Jan)
Any idea where I can get my hands on sweetex, I live in Ireland and cannot find it anywhere, or is there a good substitute for it. Thanks 😊

A cricut would help you to cut out all of your images and supposedly it can cut Fondant. My husband helps with all the boxing, delivery and printing. Thank goodness for him!

Hi Karolyn ! Hobby baker here 🙂I know that most professional bakers like yourself started out a a hobby baker, but how do you know WHEN (or even IF !) you are good enough to go professional ?

Hi! I switched over when I was busier making cakes than I was at my other job. I guess it varies with everyone. Some people start out right away opening a business. Some start as a hobby to see how it progresses. My skill level has increased over the years, so I wasn't as good as I am today when I started my business. So I'm not sure it's a "good enough" basis, it's more like if you feel you're ready for it!

I say when people are willing to pay you and you have enough clients for a full time job. Also, you kind of have to be able to be very efficient making them because time is money.
UGH currently planning to make my brothers wedding cake in May (4 tiers, hot humid city) and I'm just wishing you and I were best friends and I could call you! Making the cakes- easy. Stacking, ok not so bad, but delivering (gahhhh!). Its an hour drive to the venue. Wondering what you advise your clients to do with the cake once its at the venue? Should they refrigerate it or just keep it in AC? The venue fridge is set to 38 and cant be adjusted. So I feel like im choosing between frozen cake or melted cake. Ok melt down over. :)

You can always get a Cake Safe which will help with the long delivery! I try to deliver the kake as close to the start of the wedding as possible. I keep my A/C in the car ON BLAST (I wear a sweatshirt) to help gradually bring the cake to room temp. Once it's at the venue, keep it in an air conditioned room. I never suggest to refrigerate it again at the venue because it will have to go through the thawing process again! The problem is, I’m a bridesmaid and my 2 yr old is the flower girl (what was I thinking!?) so I was hoping to deliver it for rehearsal dinner and not have to worry about it anymore. But maybe there just isn’t an easy way out!
thank you so much for this viedo Karolyn it has been very informative. I do have a curiosity about edible images versus fondant 2D images. Why would a customer (in your experience) choose a fondant 2D image over an edible image ? (lets imagine that budget is not a problem). Isnt it cheaper and somewhat tastier an edible image? doesnt edible image look as good as fondant 2D ones? thank you!

Here's the best explanation I found on Google: A Limited liability company (LLC) is a business structure that offers limited liability protection and pass-through taxation. As with corporations, the LLC legally exists as a separate entity from its owners. Therefore, owners cannot typically be held personally responsible for the business debts and liabilities. I'm not sure how other countries set up their businesses, this may be specific to USA.
