Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos were the second pair in the heavyweight division featured in a three-fight series. Dos Santos did quick work of Velasquez in the first meeting through a first-round knockout. Then, Velasquez dominated the rematch and claimed a unanimous decision victory to reclaim his title before ending the chapter in 2013 at UFC 166 to maintain his status as the undisputed heavyweight champion.

Jds never got finished like that but he just accumulated too much damage he was good asf back then
Cain took about 10 yrs off JDS life in these fights. I was so pissed when Cain won! I was in highschool and was pissed when JDS lost, he was my fav HW. To this day, I still feel that rhabdomyolysis diagnosis and his divorce leading up to the 2nd fight caused him too look worse and slow. He was never quite the same after UFC 155

I never knew that he was sick leading up to the 2nd fight. All I knew that he was over trained. But yeah this is one of the best trilogies in MMA. In the 3rd fight I thought JDS can pull through but Cain's cardio is one the best during that time.

@@domeniquemercullo4661 Yeah, from what I remember, I thought the over-training is what caused or played a major ( or moderate) role in his diagnosis. It's been so long, but I thought that it was leading up to that fight. But yeah, I miss prime Cain and prime JDS, love both of them.

@@THA_K1NG_RAHEEMwhat makes the trilogy the best is the whole drama and build up leading to the 3rd fight. They both finished each other and JDS scored a wonderful k.o of mark hunt (to secure the 3rd fight with cain). During the 3rd fight it showed that JDS is healthy and well prepared but cain was just on a different level specially his cardio and wrestling.

@@domeniquemercullo4661 Cain didn't finish JDS in the 2nd match, it was a long beating, plus not being healthy (mentally and physically) going into that fight spelled the beginning of the end of prime JDS imo. You should go look at the rhabdo symptoms, even though Cain fought a much better gameplan in the 2nd and 3rd fights (by staying extremely relentless the whole fight), the way JDS gassed in the first rd in the 2nd fight was uncharacteristic even for JDS, and one of those symptoms of rhabdo was extreme exhaustion or something like that.
