    I really love lechuza pon and a selfwatering pot for plants that want to stay evenly moist. I have a lot of plants in it but definitely recommend it for plants like alocatia, calathea and similar. Maybe it would be a good fit for your medinilla. Also for fenestration it´s important to have conditions where the plant is thriving and not just living. I have definitely seen monsteras that look relatively healthy but have big internodal space and like 10 hand sized leaves with no fenestration. In that case the plant definitely needs more light. Just wanted to add that.

    yeah we have a pretty big monstera in our bathroom, it has more than 30 leaves, and gts new ones weekly but all pretty small and none with fenestration. i doesnt get enough light i think, but it's the only plant we have, who likes that spot, so we keep it there.

They all had really bad root rot. Some are still dying. I'm trying to save as many as I can. I have like 35-40 plants. Most of them are small props from big plants that got root rot. I don't know if they'll make it, but we'll see.😷🌼🌿😉

    Ive heard support helps them fenestrate, i have the same size Thai con and im going to stick it on a cedar board. Cute shelf! I got the stacking one lol same gloves and mallet;) next time you need soil amendments goto local hydroponics store or one on web I got 1.5 cubic yards of leca for 27$ US, they had the huge!!! Bags of super chunky perlite for $20 US bag is 3 cubic yards not sure what I’d ever do with that much lol. I’m pretty sure small online plant shops that sell aroid mix buy in bulk and make a killing on selling it in 1 or 2 lb bags, pretty smart good way to do it :) Have a very happy Holiday season!!🎄

    That medinilla sounds like it may be a great candidate for a self watering planter! (one with a wick) They’re so good for plants that need constant moisture. Also, I found a huge bag of perlite at a Home Depot for like $11. It was at least 2 cubic feet but I think it was closer to 3 or 4. That was last summer and I haven’t seen them again this year but maybe keep an eye out if you ever use up your giant bag lol

    I would argue leaf maturity requires ample light and fertilizer to fuel that growth. A plant can't mature on time alone. It needs the resources to support the size-up. My albo monstera grew taller than the pendent grow light above it and the newest leaf that formed above the grow light came in with less fenestrations and slightly smaller.

    Hiiii!! I love your videos, I’ve been watching for quite a while now! 2 quick things that I thought of while watching this video- 1) if you’re potting with coco coir I think it’s an important side note that it doesn’t naturally hold any nutrients so if people are going to try to use it, they need to know that you have to add nutrients in one way or another. 😊 2) Question- do you normally check the roots of each plant that you have delivered? I was just thinking that maybe some of your plants that aren’t growing or are slowly dying may have root problems that could be fixed! Anyway, just wanted to add my thoughts and I hope they help! I hope you, your husband and Finn have a wonderful holiday season!!

    I thought you’d need to train crawling plants upwards to get bigger leaves with more fenestrations, they crawl up trees in nature and get more mature as they go up, moss poles are the best way to, the higher up, the more fenestrations allowing light through to the lower leaves. That’s my understanding anyway

  • @reallybigplant

    @reallybigplant

    6 ай бұрын

    Yes you’re completely right, thanks for pointing this out! 💜✨ I was more talking about the development of the initial few holes when the plant is very juvenile. The point I had been trying to make was that I don’t know of any secret hack like a chemical that induces fenestration, the only way is to give it the conditions it needs to mature normally, like light, water, support, nutrients, humidity, time etc. Sorry for the confusion, your understanding is correct! Thanks for watching I hope you have a great week! 😊💞🌿✨

    FENESTRATION: it happens not because the plant grows old, but because of the plant's growth process itself. the new leaves are larger and produce holes on them to allow light to the leaves below them, also because of the wind that blows, fenestrations are created so as not to tear those big, bulky leaves. it is the process of the plant itself. therefore, when it is understood why fenestrations occur on the leaves in a normal environment, it can be used to make the process happen on house plants. FOR EXAMPLE. if the plant is placed in a place that has wind or some form of air circulation, the rapid process of producing leaves with fenestration can be encouraged. At least that's how I succeeded with my monstera, but as soon as I moved it from a place with wind, it started producing leaves without holes. NOTE. THE PROCESS WILL NOT IMMEDIATELY PRODUCE LEAVES WITH FULL FENESTRATION BUT WILL SPEED UP THE PROCESS

    recently got a cheap adansonii and chopped it to a million wet sticks and been kinda thinking about fenestrations... for a plant, it might be advantageous to look like you've already been eaten for anti-predation. imagine you are a pregnant moth and you want your caterpillars to grow big and strong. you probably would not choose a plant whose leaves are already full of holes, like it is already infested with something (i have no idea about the visual acuity or decision making powers of moths lol just thinkin). i dunno maybe it's dumb

  • @reallybigplant

    @reallybigplant

    7 ай бұрын

    It’s not dumb at all! An interesting take! With evolutionary advantage, if it helps preserve a plant even once then it counts as an advantage in my book! There are totally plants that employ this strategy of looking already colonized by insects to prevent others from taking up residence. Love your thinking thanks for sharing 😊💜🌿✨ Congrats on your big adansonii propagation too! Have a great week!💗✨
