Caen is a commune in northwestern France. It is the prefecture of the department of Calvados. The city proper has 108,365 inhabitants (as of 2012), while its urban area has 420,000, making Caen the largest city in former Lower Normandy. It is also the third largest municipality in all of Normandy after Le Havre and Rouen and the third largest city proper in Normandy, also after Rouen and Le Havre.[3][4] The metropolitan area of Caen, in turn, is the second largest in Normandy after that of Rouen, the 21st largest in France.
It is located 15 kilometres (9.3 miles) inland from the English Channel, 200 kilometres (120 miles) north-west of Paris, and connected to the south of England by the Caen (Ouistreham) to Portsmouth ferry route. Caen is located in the centre of its northern region, and it is a centre of political, economic and cultural power. Located a few miles from the coast, the landing beaches, the bustling resorts of Deauville and Cabourg, as well as Norman Switzerland and Pays d'Auge, Caen is often considered the archetype of Normandy.
Caen is known for its historical buildings built during the reign of William the Conqueror, who was buried there, and for the Battle for Caen, heavy fighting that took place in and around Caen during the Battle of Normandy in 1944, destroying much of the city. The city has now preserved the memory by erecting a memorial and a museum dedicated to peace, the Mémorial de Caen.

I come from a tiny city in the southeast of France, but I did my Bachelor's degree in Caen and I immediately fell in love with the place. My work has led me to live in Norway, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and I am now back to France, in Brittany, but I still feel like I have never felt more "at home" than I did when living in Caen. Can't explain it. It's really nothing special. But it's probably this "lack of extreme" that made life there so comfortable and enjoyable. I hope my career brings me back to Caen someday. In the meantime I still go back every year for a long weekend down the memory lane.

J'aime beaucoup le parti pris du son d'ambiance. Balade très agréable dans une ville qui ne l'est pas moins.
J'habite Caen donc je connaissais ces lieux mais je pense que ces belles images auraient demandé quelques commentaires sur les lieux vus.

This brought back a lot of memories....so many journeys from our home near Coutances to the Ouistreham ferry terminal near Caen.There we wandered around to pass the time, looking at the lovely buildings before the Brittany Ferries' deadline.😔 (for the journey to UK)

Je connais , j y suis né La place saint Sauveur était encombrée de voiture avant d être entièrement pavée et fermée a la circulation Dommage vous n avez pas vu la colline aux oiseaux ( jardin ) pas très loin du mémorial

Dans la plus belle ville
The city was almost entirely destroyed following the weeks after the D-Day ( thanks to anglo-american air strikes ) Im glad to live in Caen Caen today, as Normands, i cant imagine leaving in another city.
La plus belle de France, c'est la mienne en même temps les autres villes je m'en fous, fier d'être caennais.
Je suis de Caen et y a énormément d endroit cache aussi
L'introduction commence dans ma rue. La rue Saint Sauveur. J'aime ma ville. PEACE ✌🏽
