Thank you for uploading this one. I have a very personal connection to Cades Cove. My grandmother, Ruby Oliver grew up in the John Oliver Cabin. The family story passed down through the years gotta something like this: John & Lucretia Oliver arrived late in the Fall, much to Lucretia's ire. She was worried that they wouldn't be able to gather a harvest before winter. Anyway, their harvest was small and they were worried about surviving the winter. Asking with the fact that the Cherokee could be seen watching them from the forest line. Previous settlers were all killed by the Cherokee. One snowy, wintery night a sick and feverish Cherokee showed up on their front porch. In their kindness, they took him in and fed him what little food they had to help nurse him back to health. The Cherokee saw what meager portions of food they had. After he had recovered and returned to his tribe, something miraculous happened. In appreciation for healing their tribesman, every so often they would find pumpkins, squash and other various vegetables mysteriously appearing on their front porch. That small act of kindness by the Olivers ensured their survival of that first hard winter and for years to come. Cades Cove was named after the Cherokee Chief named Chief Cade. Hope you enjoyed that trip down memory lane!

The cove is nightmare on Sat. During fall break. It took us four hours to get through it . Every time someone a half mile ahead of us saw a bear they would sit there for 15 min. And watch leaving everyone behind looking at nothing. If people would just look a little and move on it wouldn’t be so bad. Another day of the week would probably be great because it is beautiful.

This is wonderful. We usually go every year but we're in the process of building a new home on some beautiful acreage to get ta homesteading so we weren't able to make our annual trip....I am missing it terribly.... this helps a great deal. Thank you.

I remember reading about Cades Cove in National Geographic in 1962. Then it wasn't a state park and a few families still lived there. I've always thought it would be a nice place to visit, but yet haven't made the trip. I still have that issue of NG, though! I'm glad it's been preserved.

That was a beautiful and fun road trip with you, and I enjoyed your silence tremendously so that all the sights and sounds could be absorbed. :) Some people feel they must talk continually or narrate obsessively, but your video was perfect!!! Now....let's get back to your wonderful farm. 😘❣️💜💙💚💛❤️💝🎥

This reminds me of a place in my home town in Indiana Spring Mill State Park but it has a village and there is people in some of the cabins making stuff one makes rugs one is a black smith and there a wood worker and a leather maker there a corn mill that run and makes corn mill and they sell all the stuff also a woman that in a house that cooks on a open fire place and one that works in the garden. I worked there in the summer as a teen helping some of them and cleaning the cabins they are filled with antique furniture I would also keep walk ways clean of cigarettes and trash and I picked bugs of plants in the garden in the mornings I loved all the things I learnt wonderful experience.

We were just there today. It is one amazingly beautiful place. It was a little unreal viewing the homes of the local families like the Oliver's and Tipton's and then seeing their graves at the old Baptist church. It was so nice to see the beauty and get a sense of what it must have been like to live back then in such a "simpler" time, but then to see how hard it must have been when seeing all the infant graves. A terrific experience and we will definitely visit again.
