It hurts to hear them crying. But things are going to change sooner or later. Who is responsible ?

I don't think they leave the parking lot by free will because they have their dedicated feeders and all lazy people don't go any further up and they feed them. It could be a change in dedicated feeders or they have become so big troop they have to spread out as much as they can I'm subgroups like the one Ameia belongs too. It's me. I just watched AM's video from a day ago. About the various troops that are being pushed out by the "Car Park Troop" on Golden Hill road. When I saw Annie's Troop, which I haven't seen in ages, I was surprised at how thin they looked. My heart broke hearing all their cries. I also felt so bad about " Nora's Troop" being pushed out. I always thought that her troop was considered one of the larger troops. I feel so sad that things will eventually become worse, regarding the change in which troops will get more attention and food than others. I know some of the troops are harder to fine, but I pray the feeder's will be able to get food as well.

Personally I wished people didn't feed them. It taints any real study of these creatures. I agree, too much supplementing with hand outs simulates a bounty of natural resources that causes an increase in reproduction with more females having a newborn every year and females becoming fertile at a younger age with a larger percentage of survival time adulthood. All troops have a rapid increase in size. The problem with that is there is less focus on honing of foraging skills all leading to an increased reliance on human hand outs. It all turns out bad if something abruptly changes the amount of food supplemented.

It doesn't matter how much food they get from us humans they will always remember how to forage. No one really knows how much fruit and berries growing in the forest but it's less than we think. It wouldn't feed the monkeys alone. These monkeys have been fed for a very long time because they were moved there after the dam was built (finished 1938) and there are less monkeys than we think. I saw a recent number from Agricultural, Fisheries and Conservation department that say 1800 monkeys. Earlier it was around 3000. 🤓🇸🇪

monkey hill isn’t their natural habitat. it’s theorized that they’re the descendants of pets abandoned way back in the 1920s, so they rely on humans feeding them since i imagine most of them would die without human help due to kam shan park (monkey hill) not being their natural habitat/where they’re actually supposed to be, especially during winter where it’s been heavily implied there is nothing for them to forage. humans took away their natural home and there are hardly any truly wild macaques left in hong kong due to this, so if anything it should be our duty to feed them; it’s the least we can do for destroying nature.
